Anyone else would mop, right?

You pour yourself a coffee, and as you turn away from the counter, a tablespoons worth falls to the kitchen tile.

You would mop that up right? Not leave it, or "wipe it up with your sock".
Right?!

Am I being unreasonable to think anyone else who spilt coffee would get out a mop and clean it properly?

I'd use the mop, but only because it lives nearby and is usually damp from the last floor washing.

Hankunamatata · Yesterday 17:46

Er nope
Kitchen and wipe it up (or use dirty laundry lurking on floor gradually for washing machine)

inappropriateraspberry · Yesterday 17:46

I’d get the dishcloth, but no way I’m mopping!

mondaytosunday · Yesterday 17:47

I’d grab a paper towel.

66babe · Yesterday 17:49

My gosh no … kitchen roll then an antiseptic wipe or dishcloth
Mop out and all that palaver for a dribble of coffee , no chance

MellowSubmarine · Yesterday 17:50

I wouldn’t get out a mop, but we use reusable cloths in the kitchen (instead of kitchen roll) and I’d use that to clean it up.

Filling a mop bucket seems like overkill.

ETA - are people saying they’d use their sock aware of how much a tablespoon is! That’s quite a lot of liquid on your foot.

ToKittyornottoKitty · Yesterday 17:51

It’s be really over to top to get a mop out for this. And it’s even more so to judge someone else for not doing. Interested to see how dramatic the drip feed is though

HollyhockDays · Yesterday 17:52

No. I’d use kitchen roll or a cloth.

Garfieldloveslasagnepie · Yesterday 17:52

Sock.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · Yesterday 17:53

Kitchen towel or sock, no way would I do a full clean just for that

Timeforachange26 · Yesterday 17:53

Nope bit of kitchen roll will do

cartagenagina · Yesterday 17:53

Dustpan, baby wipe, sock.

Not mop

Chickydoo · Yesterday 17:53

Kitchen roll

Kokonimater · Yesterday 17:53

No! You don’t have to mop the floor for a tiny spill. Wipe it up with a cloth. I wouldn’t use my sock though.

pastadish · Yesterday 17:54

You mop the floor because you spilt a bit of coffee? Just use a bit of damp kitchen roll

Dragononawagon · Yesterday 17:54

Coffee: bit of kitchen roll
Tea: the dog would lick it up before I got there.

Umm, I probably wouldn't go and get the mop. I'd either leave it, use some kitchen roll or probably the sock.

Divebar2021 · Yesterday 17:59

It took me longer than expected to realise that by sock you meant “ with foot in it “. I’d use either kitchen roll or a tea towel and bung it in the wash.

I love mopping but for that much would most probably use a cloth to save water. I mop once a week unless the dog wees or it’s particularly bad. Not for a small spillage that’s easily cleaned with a cloth.

I read that and thought you meant you skipped the weekly mopping if the dog had weed. I'm a scruff, but even my standards are a bit higher than that.

Black sock or white, OP? MN needs to know.

WearingBeautifulShoes · Yesterday 18:02

Kitchen roll, tea towel or dishcloth, whichever was closest at hand

JLou08 · Yesterday 18:04

Surely you don't get the mop out for every spill? Do you have children and a job? Thers no way I'd have time to get the mop out for every spill.

SerendipityCat · Yesterday 18:05

Get the mop out for a tablespoon’s worth of coffee? Why would you want to make extra work for yourself when a cloth or piece of kitchen roll would be perfectly adequate?
Or are you the mumsnetter from a week or two ago who insisted it was only right and proper to wash your hands before emptying the dishwasher?!

(Spoiler - I’m old, fat and lazy and absolutely the wrong person to ask about cleaning.)

EmeraldShamrock000 · Yesterday 18:06

No. A piece of kitchen roll would do the job.

Scarlettpixie · Yesterday 18:06

Bit of kitchen roll? I would only get the mop out if the spillage couldn’t be cleaned easily with a couple of bits.

CrowsInMyGarden · Yesterday 18:07

Kitchen roll
