Anyone else would mop, right?

You pour yourself a coffee, and as you turn away from the counter, a tablespoons worth falls to the kitchen tile.

You would mop that up right? Not leave it, or "wipe it up with your sock".
Right?!

Am I being unreasonable to think anyone else who spilt coffee would get out a mop and clean it properly?

It's really odd to me that anyone would use their sock! A TABLESPOON of coffee would leave you with a very wet sock that would leave little damp patches as you walk and stain any soft furnishings!

I wouldn't use the mop either. My mother would have filled a whole mopping bucket with Dettol and Flash infused water and mopped half the kitchen floor. A quick blot and wipe with damp kitchen roll would suffice!

Agree, you don’t want wet socks! I’d use a sheet of kitchen roll but I’d operate that sheet using the sock.

Why is coffee sticky?

Quick swish with kitchen roll and it's like it never happened.

You're probably got really high standards, I'll bet you're the type who changes their duvet cover AT LEAST twice a year even if it doesn't need it.

Some people put sugar in it, sugary tea or coffee can be really sticky.

I would get a straw and suck it up
Waste not want not 😀

I’ve got dogs, they’d lick BEFORE the sock 🤪

Dogs are particularly useful when you drop a raw egg too. And then wipe with a cloth (the floor, not the dog!).

Bobloblaw84 · Yesterday 19:53

A mop? Are you ok?

Xmasbaby11 · Yesterday 19:54

Spray of cleaner and kitchen roll.

this kind of mess happens all the time in my house. I’d never put the mop away if I got it out for this type of thing!

thatsgotit · Yesterday 19:56

A mop? Blimey no. I'd clean it up, but I'd just use a cloth.

Newusernameforthiss · Yesterday 19:58

Sock and then the sock in the washing machine, I'm a classy laydee

That's what kitchen towel is for!

ThoseWhoDance · Yesterday 19:59

If I got out a mop every time I spilt/splashed/dropped something, it would be out permanently - I am the epitome of a full on klutz, even when I am being extra careful ! That is what cloths, kitchen roll etc are for....

PigeonsAmongstTheCats · Yesterday 20:00

No I wouldn't start mopping the floor over a splash of coffee.

Are you uptight generally?

Alittlefrustrated · Yesterday 20:01

Sock!! My mother wouldn't just turn in her grave, she'd claw her way out and be knocking on my door, to give me an ear full.
Kitchen roll or one of the dog towels here. Mopping is OTT.

I wouldn’t get out a mop, but we use reusable cloths in the kitchen (instead of kitchen roll) and I’d use that to clean it up.

Filling a mop bucket seems like overkill.

ETA - are people saying they’d use their sock aware of how much a tablespoon is! That’s quite a lot of liquid on your foot.

Edited

People are actually using kitchen roll instead of a cloth. Not the other way round.

Swervethewinger · Yesterday 20:04

My son knocked over his whole glass of squash at tea time today.

I didn't mop. I used a cloth and kitchen roll!

To clarify, it's not my DH, it's actually at work
I was upset that the coffee stickiness would be tracked out onto the store floor

Coffee is only sticky when it’s full of sugar

But it wouldn't be if wiped with a damp cloth (like a normal person would).

Sunbringer · Yesterday 20:08

I’d wipe with a cloth

LittleNote55 · Yesterday 20:12

Sock or cloth yep

LowlandLucky · Yesterday 20:14

Tea towel

worldshottestmom · Yesterday 20:16

I raise you: the mighty kitchen towel

Sahara123 · Yesterday 20:22

TheLurpackYears · Yesterday 17:39

I’d chuck the tea towel
down and then bung it in the washing machine

Edited

This is my preferred method 👍

FreebieWallopFridge · Yesterday 20:22

Not a chance am I mucking around with the mop for a small slop of coffee. Kitchen roll is perfectly sufficient.

Sahara123 · Yesterday 20:23

Tea towel smushed around with my socked foot

BunnyLake · Yesterday 20:23

Tablespoon’s worth, kitchen roll. Maybe a sock but not if I was wearing it, don’t want a wet foot. 😁
