Anyone else would mop, right?

You pour yourself a coffee, and as you turn away from the counter, a tablespoons worth falls to the kitchen tile.

You would mop that up right? Not leave it, or "wipe it up with your sock".
Right?!

Am I being unreasonable to think anyone else who spilt coffee would get out a mop and clean it properly?

I'd use a piece of kitchen towel. Not getting a mop out for a single splat of coffee. I wouldn't object if i saw a dp or ds use their sock, but i wouldn't want a soggy sock myself.

Seziah · Yesterday 18:42

No way would I get a mop out for a tablespoon of coffee! I’d use a piece of kitchen roll or if at home I’d use the cleaning sponge. It needs drying up not making wetter

To clarify, it's not my DH, it's actually at work
I was upset that the coffee stickiness would be tracked out onto the store floor

Upset! You're being ridiculous.

goldenhunter · Yesterday 18:43

A mop? Your house must be filthy.

I’d use a litre of bleach and a blow torch, to thoroughly get rid of any germs, like any normal person would.

PaintMeLikeYourFrenchGulls · Yesterday 18:43

I’ve got a bag of old cloths for spills. I use them like kitchen roll then wash them. I wouldn’t get a mop out.

ArabellaDWainwright · Yesterday 18:45

They should clear up but a damp cloth would be fine.

Mumtobabyhavoc · Yesterday 18:45

The "spiller" is in a shared space. The correct action is to clean up one's mess.

eta: I think OP meant clean the spill, not necessarily a literal mop and bucket. Relax.

FallingfortheUnderdog · Yesterday 18:45

No mopping here either, kitchen roll if at work, tea towel if at home

Are you a person who has plenty of time to do unnecessary things?

NeverDropYourMooncup · Yesterday 18:47

Most workplaces I've been at would have ended with option 3.

Walk away and pretend it never happened as somebody else would clean it.

JeffLebowski · Yesterday 18:48

A teaspoon of coffee would get socked. A tablespoon would deserve one of the old tea towels that I've relegated from front-line service.

Cruftsrecommended · Yesterday 18:49

I’d call the dog over and tell him ‘lick lick’. It would be gone in moments.

Shinyandnew1 · Yesterday 18:49

Thats not a mop job. Kitchen roll or cloth.

SleeplessRoads · Yesterday 18:50

A tablespoon is probably on the limit for sock (teaspoon definitely sock). But I’d just get the dish cloth and use that then throw it in the wash basket. No chance am I getting the mop out.

edit: sorry I missed it was at work, then yes probably kitchen roll or mop. I would have my shoes on at work so I wouldn’t take them off and then put my wet coffee sock back into my shoe..

Answering on behalf of myself I would say obviously any normal person would mop under these circumstances.

However if I were to answer this on behalf of my ex I would without hesitation say: socks.

There is no spillage too large or disgusting that my ex would not see fit to “wipe” up with the soles of his socks.

TabardOfDoom · Yesterday 18:54

@DewDropsAndCobWebs I take it you are talking about the camp Welsh lad on the advert yes?

AmnesiacDream · Yesterday 18:55

At work I'd probably use a paper towel (Socked feet in the kitchen at work? No thank you.). At home, probably sock. I would not get the mop out.

Actually, to be totally honest, at work I probably wouldn't even notice.

Obviously any normal person wouldn’t mop the floor for a few drops of coffee. But I also struggle to see why OPs coworker was walking around in their socks before going back on the shop floor, that’s stranger than either option for cleaning the coffee up

FFSItsTooHot · Yesterday 18:55

I absolutely would not get a mop out to clean up a tablespoon worth of coffee! I would dampen a bit of kitchen roll and wipe it up.

RightOnTheEdge · Yesterday 18:57

I wouldn't wipe it with my sock but I definitely wouldn't mop it either. I'd use a bit of kitchen roll or a cloth.

How would it get onto the shop floor? Do they walk round the shop in just their socks?

Waitingfordoggo · Yesterday 18:57

I’d use a cloth. Not a sock because coffee granules are really sticky and need a wet and soapy wipe. I wouldn’t get the mop out, that’s only for special occasions.

EdinaTheConfessor · Yesterday 18:58

Oh thank god I’m normal. I read the OP thinking I must be a terrible slattern, but thrilled to read the replies and learn that I am in the majority. Defo sock or a piece of kitchen roll.

SnapAndTap · Yesterday 18:59

I have no access to a mop at work!
And i absolutely wouldn't mop the work kitchen floor with my sock!

That said I wouldnt use a mop or a sock at home either. Team kitchen roll or teatowel and throw it in the wash here.

So, hand towel at work - the paper stuff.

EdinaTheConfessor · Yesterday 18:59

Although having read OP’s update it would be a paper towel, rather than a sock if at work.

LoveHearts69 · Yesterday 18:59

I’m really laughing at all the other people saying sock. I’ve found my people 🤣

LaurieFairyCake · Yesterday 19:00

I’ve got dogs, they’d lick BEFORE the sock 🤪
