Anyone else would mop, right?

You pour yourself a coffee, and as you turn away from the counter, a tablespoons worth falls to the kitchen tile.

You would mop that up right? Not leave it, or "wipe it up with your sock".
Right?!

Am I being unreasonable to think anyone else who spilt coffee would get out a mop and clean it properly?

I’d just use a tea towel (not one I was using to dry wet washing up though) 🤷‍♀️

Me too, but maybe that's what OP means with mop it up. An actual mot would just spread it around.

The OP specified getting a mop out.

sohard · 09/10/2026 20:15

Kitchen roll or sock depending on volume of liquid and how long I’d had the socks on for. Definitely not a mop for a tablespoonful.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 09/10/2026 20:17

Kitchen roll/sock😂

I absolutely would not get a mop out to clean a to tiny bit of coffee. I would use kitchen roll or a cloth.

This is a sensible answer

momtoboys · 09/10/2026 20:22

Not a chance I would take out a mop for that. Kitchen towel.

AmnesiacDream · 09/10/2026 20:53

Except for when I worked in a cafe, I don't think I've know where the mop is kept in any of my workplaces!

IcedIslandLongTea · 09/10/2026 22:21

At home I have a vacuum spray mop in the utility room for exactly this type of thing. DH and definitely three out of four DC would use a sock but they are savages who merrily walk on wet grass in socks.

Elsewhere it would be kitchen roll or a cloth if there was more than a dishcloth available.

Notonmyland · 09/10/2026 22:59

Kitchen roll.

I'd tell the dog to lick it up :)

I have a whole basket of microfibre cloths under the sink for just this sort of thing. I’m clumsy, it happens a lot.

Yes me too. I’d use one of those. Definitely not a sock though - I hate wet socks 😟

anon666 · 10/10/2026 00:41

Ohhhhh, I clicked YANBU because I assumed you meant tablespoon of dried instant coffee, which I agree wpuld make a roght old mess and be a nightmare to get off.

If it was a liquid it would probably warrant at least a sock. Maybe even a sheet of kitchen roll? 🤔

Not in her OP.

CurlewKate · 10/10/2026 09:14

Dish cloth. I use kitchen roll as little as possible cos environment. But I wouldn’t get the mop out. And I’d never heard of the sock method. My horizons have expanded!

T1Dmama · 10/10/2026 10:50

Nope. I’d use a cloth, or a dark item waiting to be washed, or even a tissue.
if it was the whole mug I’d get the mop - maybe… lol

T1Dmama · 10/10/2026 10:53

Nah. Even at work… just a wet kitchen cloth is fine. Or the sock that’s going back inside their own shoe would’ve been fine

myheadsjustmush · 10/10/2026 11:23

Kitchen roll 👍

sassyclassyandsmartassy · 10/10/2026 12:36

Nope, I’d not be arsed to get a mop out for that, but I wouldn’t want it on my sock padding it about the house either, so I’d grab a piece of kitchen roll and the antibacterial spray which are literally an arms width away and wipe it up with that!

zingally · 10/10/2026 12:37

I certainly would not to to the hassle of getting the mop out for a few dribbles of coffee, even on my light wood floor. I'd either get a bit of kitchen roll, or swipe it up with a damp sponge.

Gingernaut · 10/10/2026 12:38

Spray some flash and wipe with a paper towel

YourWinter · 10/10/2026 13:41

I voted YANBU but what I mean is I would WIPE it up, with kitchen roll or with a cloth or tea towel going in the wash anyway, not my socks, but I only get the mop out to do the whole kitchen, not a spot clean.

Rescuedog12 · 10/10/2026 14:09

I'd use kitchen roll and zoflora spray, but i wouldn't get the mop out.

Granville82 · 10/10/2026 14:18

I wouldn't get out a mop, I would use a bit of kitchen towel or countertop rag (and possibly put that directly in the wash pile, depending on how recently the floor had been done).
