Half cringing. Half admiring. Turning up at wedding after being uninvited.

We were at a wedding yesterday and we’re still at the hotel.

Husband had been out with a friend a few weeks ago and she had told him that the groom’s brother had stepped down from being best man as his stepson had not been invited.

I was delighted at this as when same thing happened to us my husband wasn’t supportive

It then emerged that he had tried to stop his own son from going but child’s mother and rest of family stepped in.

Yesterday came along and there is groom’s brother, wife and stepson sitting at back of church in casual clothes.

They then stood at entrance to churchyard at which point mother of groom saw him and started crying Family and friends including my DH shook hands.

We check in to hotel and come down and nephew is being comforted by the ushers

Brother of groom, wife and stepchild had come to hotel as well, where they stayed in the entrance for four hours.

He claimed he just wanted to be on the periphery of his brother’s big day.

I was half cringing and half admiring. I wanted to curtsy for his sheer chutzpah.

No one is talking about anything else.

It sounds like an episode of Eastenders!

Well, in making a petty little point he’s done significant damage to his family relationships, including the one he has with his own son.

While I think it's was mean to exclude the stepson and the grooms brother had every right to feel upset, I can't agree with what they did. The poor son and stepson, what a horrible position to put two kids in just to make a point. It just makes them look petty to be honest, trying (and probably succeeding) to ruin a family members wedding.

More maliciously spiteful and truly bonkers I reckon than just petty. Definitely people to be avoided in future, who knows what they'll do if you tell them no? No sense of social norms, boundaries, no care for their own son who they humiliated in front of a whole church? They planned this revenge for being slighted to the detriment of their own kids. They sound like mental cases.

Maybe I'm tired but I can't make head nor tail of who is/isn't invited to the wedding, who did/didn't show up uninvited and who was/wasn't pissed off about this. From what I can gather though the result is that somebody's wedding was very spoiled and at least one child has locked in an awful core memory as a minimum..... I reckon you have to be a very unpleasant individual to get any kind of satisfaction out of this shit show tbh but you do you OP....

Very few people in this have covered themselves in glory!

It does sound like it was meant not to invite the stepson tbh. But in going along anyway, the brother really upset his own son, which was the worst thing anyone did in all of this. Poor boy.

Just feels like it could all have been managed so much better!

Edit - And must also have been shitty for stepson to be dragged along where he knew he wasn’t wanted!

Poor step son. Weaponised to make a point.

Way to go to make the child feel even more rejected. Horrible behaviour.

Nothing to admire there imo.

it was good parenting and good manners to go to the wedding. Supporting both his brother and his sons. it was not a private wedding. the ettequette is very clear here, he went as member of the public.. which is the right thing to do,

i feel these grooms people are so creepy to disinvite a son/brother because he would not be cruel to his other family members.

And they only accept the grandson with their 'superior' blood,,shudders.

Even the roughest characters in a wedding would know not make a distressing scene in front of the public uninvited guests at a wedding.. The correct manners in most places in the world is for the wedding party not to make distressing scenes.about public guests. Even at a private wedding the expectation would be quiet civility and let others deal with any removals,.

I'm going to a wedding soon. I must ask them how many "public guests" they are expecting.

I'd say the bride is beginning to wonder if her husband is worth the dramalama family he is bringing with him.
