What would the Left call the Right, if the small boat people were white?

I'll start by saying, I am very anti open boarders, and I am horrified that so many illegal immigrants are arriving every day. But for me, it has absolutely nothing to do with skin colour, it is more to do with :

ONE) They have no documentation, and we have no idea if they have criminal backgrounds

TWO) They tend to come from cultures where women are not respected

THREE) They often come from places where rape is not a crime

FOUR) They cannot work, and it is costing Millions to house, feed and clothe them

FIVE) We are granting asylum to some people who should never get it - like the Hamas bodyguard we heard of yesterday

Lots of valid reasons I feel, however, for me, it has nothing to do with skin colour. If I had to be locked in a room overnight with a white man from a backward culture, or a black man from the UK, I would choose the latter, every single time.

It isn't colour, it's culture

But I see that people on the Far Left just scream "Racist" to anyone who opposes illegal immigration. What would they scream, if all the small boats were full of white men? And would people still march for England?

Xenophobia

as Nessa said in Gavin and Stacey

xenophobia doesn’t have the dog whistle call of racism though

ImmortalNowBabyDoll · 29/09/2026 13:22

I'd still call you racist, because believing that coming from another culture makes someone an automatic threat is still racist.

Dogwalkissue · 29/09/2026 13:23

You will be slaughtered on here but I fully agree with you.

It also fascinates me that we are in such a place that saying we do not want boat loads of people from these cultures arriving in our country is called 'racist' or that it is even controversial to say this.

Our country has changed so much and not for the better. I feel a huge sense of despair and powerlessness these days

And Labour have now announced yet another way for people to come to our country without managing to close down the other way first.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 29/09/2026 13:25

What makes you think that people on the left would have objections to white men claiming asylum if they needed to do so?

Where is your limit? We are one small island. We cannot offer 'asylum' to any man who wants it

But you don't have to be black, brown or yellow to be the target of racism?
Roma Gypsies, Polish immigrants when they joined the EU, historically the Irish were persecuted.

Look, I agree with you it is a culture problem but saying that people can only be racist towards another colour is just incorrect.

I think you need to look up the dictionary definition of racism then.

Or woman. As much as it would be wonderful if we could, we can't help everyone that needs it. In addition, I am sick of hearing that migration (of any type) is good for the country. Most are not economic contributors - and that is before children are involved. Do you really think taxi drivers, delivery guys etc etc are anything other than a burden on our already over-stretched public services.

Limeandfigs · 29/09/2026 13:31

You appear to be labouring under the misapprehension that racism is purely about skin colour.

Believe it or not, if large groups of Polish or Swedish men were coming here and being typecast as dangerous rapists, that stereotyping would still be wrong.

Have you been living under a rock? There have been umpteen attacks by illegal immigrants and many, many rapes.

Who is saying anything about offering asylum to anyone who wants it? Each claim would have to be assessed on its own merits, of course.

I don't buy the argument that we're a small island that's "full", but there is a case for having a system to manage the numbers. Personally, I would like to see the government opening up safe and legal routes so that the process can be managed more effectively, with appropriate investment in infrastructure and support for integration etc.

Not everyone who applies gets it.

SingingShrews · 29/09/2026 13:33

How many times has someone screamed racist at you? I'm not in the UK but reading here is fascinating, so do you all just scream at each other in the street or where is this screaming happening?

Also by white men. Deport all men?

Octavia64 · 29/09/2026 13:34

Historically human beings have behaved in different ways to people outside their social group than to people inside their social group.

when this is based on class it’s a form of discrimination known as classism.

when this is based on sex it’s a form of discrimination known as sexism.

when it’s based on the colour of someone’s skin it’s known as racism.

there’s lots of forms of discrimination and calling them all racism isn’t particularly helpful.

discriminating against the Irish is not racism. It is obviously a bad thing but racism is not the correct adjective to apply,

op as you can see the left will still call it racism because the word has expanded it’s meaning to cover almost any kind of discrimination (except possibly sexism)

HappiestSleeping · 29/09/2026 13:34

I think it is useful to clear up the terminology. Arriving by small boat is irregular, not necessarily illegal since the Conservative party changed the rules to make it impossible to seek asylum without being on UK soil. Also, small boat crossings are a very small amount of overall irregular immigrants (less than 1%), so while it is a problem, it isn't the massive problem Farage and the media would have us believe.

Then, there is the fact that they aren't given "loadsamoney" they are housed and paid subsistence, but it isn't an open cheque book. I certainly wouldn't want to live on what they're given and be housed in a room with several others.

The real issue is what draws people here, how quickly they can be processed, and what we do with them once they are.

The draw is the difficult one to solve as the traffickers will be selling a dream even though there isn't one. The current labour government have already deployed additional resource to processing and are returning twice as many as arrive. Even if an asylum claim is granted, the status is reviewed periodically to evaluate whether the circumstances are still valid. If they aren't, the individual is deported.

Pre-Brexit, the UK had the lowest rate of acceptance, and still had more options available to further lower the rate of acceptance, however we elected to leave the EU and make the problem much worse.

It would be much better to deploy even more resource to clearing the backlog, and I am still curious as to why the rule to make it impossible to claim asylum unless you are here has not been revoked.

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/09/2026 13:34

You must have missed all the prejudice towards Polish and other white people. Here legally, working hard, living their lives.

The fact that you’ve correctly identified that the threat is ‘men’ in your example, not ‘foreigners’ or ‘immigrants’ at all means you’re almost there. I’d rather be locked in a room with 100 women I didn’t know from any country than one man of any race or ethnicity, religion or place, from Cornell.

Do I think lots of men without women are safe in any context? No. But that’s a male violence issue, rather than a racism issue.

It’s always screaming. No idea why. It’s hyperbolic nonsense.

Just because our own men rape, doesn't mean it's a good idea to allow more men (from cultures where rape is not a crime) to enter our Country and compound the problem. It makes no sense.

There's a very common MNer reply to this "white man bad too"

Backedoffhackedoff · 29/09/2026 13:38

Do you not think this is getting outdated? Small boat crossings are massively down. The “crisis” is timing out, as it always would.

what will you talk about when there are hardly any? Do you think you’ll be able to move onto something more relevant.

i think that people like you are obsessed with immigration and don’t realise that not everyone else is. I think it’s quite worrying how much brain space it’s taken up

AlwaysExtraHot · 29/09/2026 13:39

If people seeking asylum could work that would help with a lot of problems.

Not randomly in the street. At least not in my area of rural east Anglia.

There’s demonstrations and protests against illegal immigration on a fairly regular basis - a town near me the address of a property where asylum seekers were housed was made known to the population and there were protests and violence outside.

London gets it’s fair share of rallies and marches against illegal immigrants and stand up to racism usually do a counter march.

the last few times the RNLI have landed people taken off small boats in the channel men wearing black balaclavas have turned up to try to I dunno, protest or intimidate them or something.

any actions that suggest people don’t want illegal migration tend to be called out as racism on social media. Lots of debate on local Facebook pages and local newspapers.
