Considering a holiday with a group half my age, where most are strangers.

I'm 50. I'm good friends with a 25 year old. I occasionally go out drinking and dancing with her and her friends.

Last night we were out. They were talking about their loose plans to go to ibiza next summer. I was enthusiastic and told them i was excited for them. This turned into an invite for me to join them.

I have wanted to go to ibiza my entire life. I love dance music and dancing until the early hours. But none of my friends in my life have ever wanted to join me on an ibiza holiday. And i don't want to go alone.

So I'm seriously considering taking them up on their offer.

However, they're half my age, so i won't be able to keep up. I've only met her friends a couple of times. They're nice enough, but not sure i want to go on holiday with near strangers. They've got less money than me, so I'll need to eat/sleep on their budgets. No nice meals out on holiday. And everything we do will be on their agenda and i won't feel i can interfere with that too much.

But i really want to go to Ibiza!

I'm a friendly person who gets on well with most. I can rough it for 4 days, and tell them I'm staying in if i need to rest. But still...

AIBU considering going with a bunch of 25 year olds where i only know 1 of them?

Don’t Op. just don’t. You won’t enjoy it and you’ll be acutely aware of the difference

Alwaysbella · 20/09/2026 14:22

As will they

Alwaysbella · 20/09/2026 14:23

In any event you only occasionally go out with this 25 year old anyway. She said it flippantly not thinking you’d actially take it seriously at all.

Go to Ibiza but with other friends

throwaway3749574 · 20/09/2026 14:23

It’s a bit weird, sorry! I’d be worried that other than your friend, the others would think it’s odd and you’d feel ok the fringe of things

Doctordoolittle · 20/09/2026 14:23

Could you not go at the same time but book your own hotel etc, then join them for some nights out if that’s what you enjoy? Then you can take yourself out for nice meals etc.

Alwaysbella · 20/09/2026 14:24

summer. I was enthusiastic and told them i was excited for them. This turned into an invite for me to join them

would have been so awkward not to have invited you in this scenario

dozydaisy · 20/09/2026 14:25

I went to Ibiza with my 31 year old daughter two weeks ago, we both had an absolute blast. I was really thinking I’m to old, I wasn’t, go for it.

Hotandbothered222 · 20/09/2026 14:25

I agree with @Doctordoolittle, go anyway, but on your own terms. Why not! I’m 51 and I’ve been on holiday with friends in their 30s, so not that different. It was totally fine, and I could manage without enough sleep for a few days.

JustWalnut · 20/09/2026 14:26

Oh my god, don't do it. One night out with twenty somethings might be fun but a whole holiday?! No.
Plus if they were pissed when they invited you it doesn't count! 😉

Froughties · 20/09/2026 14:26

Yeah i think the compromise is booking somewhere near to them at the same time. Go for 3 or 4 nights only. It would be easy to say, yeah YOLO etc but I can remember being thst age and I wouldn't have liked it, plus you're not in the friendship group.

ItsAlwaysTwins · 20/09/2026 14:28

Don’t do it. You’d be the outlier and I’d imagine you’d be constantly embarrassed and uncomfortable. Imagine the rest of the group when they realise an old person (that’s how they’ll view you) is going.

Totally different scenario

This is a great plan!

They were just being polite as you were excited, please do not do this.

That’s completely different and if they wanted her there they’d have invited her when they did the planning.

dont do it op and dont book a different place nd try to hang with them, yoire their parents age and if they wished you there when they started organising they’d have asked you

GameOfGroans · 20/09/2026 14:58

I think I’d wait and see if it was brought up again or if I was included in the planning. That way you’ll know if it was a drunken invite or if they really want you there. Then make a decision!

bababamama · 20/09/2026 14:59

Last time I went to Ibiza I was surprised how old everyone was, I thought at 50 I’d seem out of place yet I was basically the dominant age group, perhaps the places we chose to visit and I didn’t do any clubs in the small hours but the bars were very much mixed age right up to 60’s, with many djs not spring chickens either

Froughties · 20/09/2026 15:01

Ibiza can definitely be for the older demographic- the original clubbers! But not gate crashing a close knit 20s friendship group.

ItsAlwaysTwins · 20/09/2026 15:03

It’s very different if you are in a group of oldies as opposed to tagging along with a group of twenty somethings. I’d feel embarrassed at the thought.

op are they reaching out to you, put you in the group chat to discuss the planning? I am assuming not.

thid was just you getting excited and saying I’m guessing how you’d love to go. They were being polite. No more.

pinck · 20/09/2026 15:09

No, absolutely not. I’m 37, and the absolute youngest group I’d want to travel with would be late 20s, and even then only if I already knew them. I’d happily travel with people older than me, but going on a trip with a bunch of 25-year-olds when you’re 50 is weird.

Also, I’m American, so I probably wouldn’t travel to Europe solo for only four days myself, but if you’re in the UK, a solo trip to Ibiza is a completely different thing. That’s basically a short hop, not some massive international expedition.

Chickadiddy · 20/09/2026 15:09

Only you can judge how sincere the invitation was..but If it was me I would seriously be questioning if it was just a polite throwaway invite.

You know them, I don't, but I wouldn't even consider going. No matter how much you are into the scene, you are twice their age and your presence would completely alter their group dynamics.

Berlinlover · 20/09/2026 15:13

Don’t do it OP.

That was my thought pre posting the thread. I'm not going to say anything about it or push to join them.

If she brings it up with me, then I'll think about all the things people are posting.
