I just had a shower as it’s boiling. My friend said I can’t believe you shower a few times a day? Lol she said even when it’s hot I bath once a week 🫢🤣

It is in my house.

....and mine!

EmmaB1309 · 22/05/2026 21:18

Normal to shower once a day in any weather but especially hot weather when you factor in more sweat and suncream. I may occasional take one morning and evening when it’s particularly hot and I want to freshen up before bed, or if I’m going out in the evening.

OriginalSkang · 22/05/2026 21:18

I cant stand strip washing. Its quicker to spend 30 seconds in the shower and just wash your bum & pits. Then you dont have dirty bum water dripping down your legs and a flannel that probably has some amount of feces on it hanging up in your bathroom

Grumpybear33 · 22/05/2026 21:20

Eww. It’s 2026! Showers are in the majority of houses. People used to store raw meat on slabs. Does that mean people shouldn’t use fridges?

sweetpickle2 · 22/05/2026 21:23

I usually just get into the dishwasher with the toilet brush and give myself a quick wash cycle. In summer intensive wash.

cauliflowercheeseplease · 22/05/2026 21:23

I once knew a woman who was very active, went running once a dog, dog walking, played tennis once a week and worked in a very hot office. She was open in the fact she only used to shower once a week to save on her water bills! She then got upset when working evenings in a pub and was pulled to one side and politely told she had bad body odour.

Has no one ever heard of a strip wash? In the days before showers how do you think people kept clean?

Good grief 🙄

Why would you strip wash if a shower is available? They take about the same time and a shower is much more effective. I don’t feel clean after a strip wash. Two showers a day here, dont have a strenuous job or any conditions.

SqueakyFromme · 22/05/2026 21:31

@Grumpybear33 and while we are at it let’s get those kids up chimneys again

SqueakyFromme · 22/05/2026 21:32

@paddyclampofthethirdkind ’arse cloth’ 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

TotalBaloney · 22/05/2026 21:34

Whyohwhy321 · 22/05/2026 21:02

Well yes. A kettle of hot water is considerably cheaper.

And what water is used to wash the clothes used every day for the strip wash?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/05/2026 21:48

@TheYorkshirePudding, @paddyclampofthethirdkind and @Fleurdalys - I would love to be able to stand long enough to shower every day, but I can’t. I keep clean and fresh - you will have to take my word for that. It would be nice not to be called names for by inability to shower daily. A bit of empathy, perhaps.

And despite the fact that I’ve been like this since I got Covid, my skin is not caked in a brown skin, as mentioned by another poster.

Isn’t showering once a day pretty much the norm whatever the weather?

not for me sever psoriasis here and actually can't shower every day even in hot weather or else my skin is on fire.
showering every second day depending on your activity is also normal
this has been done to death on mumsnet

Wexone · 22/05/2026 22:01

FlowerSticker · 22/05/2026 20:14

Maybe you're using the wrong products

or maybe they have skin conditions
dermatologists tell me not to shower every day.

People might prefer a bath.
Lots of people don't have showers.

Chocolattcoffeecup · 22/05/2026 22:03

I don't think a "strip wash" is as effective as a shower. I shower most days. I would say every day but I've actually got a bit lazy and occasionally (maybe once a week or less) I use a flannel to wash my face and underarms and I wash my feet in the bath. I also have a bum gun so always wash after the loo so feel relatively clean.

You can't clean your vulva and bottom properly using a flannel.

BoswellTheScribe · 22/05/2026 22:04

redboxerclub · 22/05/2026 17:09

Hang in she gets a bath once a week? Does she not shower at all? That is really odd.
Shower in the morning and then at night if it’s really sweaty day but that is pros key a few times a year

We don’t have a shower! We have one of those bath attachments which pretends to be a shower but takes forever to adjust to the correct temperature. Therefore a bath is generally more efficient and uses the same amount of water!

I think you can clean a bottom and vilva properly with a flannel.... Millions, if not billions of babies have been washed there with flannels for a very long time...

They certainly clei better than wet wipes!

One thing I can say about people who 'just jump in the shower'- if you're not washing your hair, your head smells unpleasant. Especially if you're having a hot shower. So it's not 'just' 5 minutes, if you're adding in time to wash and dry your hair. As a taller woman, I have smelled many a shorter women's stale scalp.

And if your water is only lukewarm, you're not cleaning yourself properly.

Also- do you all just use your hands to wash your various body parts? Because if you're using any kind of sponge/flannel/scrunchie thing- you'll have poo crumbs in those, too.

Bownon earth would you know how long it had been since someone washed their hair?

The stale scalps you smelly could have been washed 5 days ago, not 1....

Honestly, why are so physically close to so many shorter women that you can smell their scalp????

You can clean yourself properly with cold water... It's the soaps that do the germ killing etc.

MadMumOfTwoHorrors · 22/05/2026 22:23

No one needs to shower several times a day! It’s seriously wasteful! A 5 minute shower uses around 50 litres of water with a standard shower head so 4 people in a house showering twice a day for 5 minutes each is 400 litres of water a day and 2800 litres a week!!!
Given the latest reports of UK water shortages of 5 billion litres a day by 2055, people should perhaps think about being a little more careful with such a precious resource. Everyone bangs on about fossil fuels, but the very real possibility of water shortages never seems to cross most people’s minds.

Sunshinetime199 · 22/05/2026 22:24

I cannot imagine not showering/having a bath daily in ANY weather at anytime of the year. Several showers though seems excessive as most people wouldn’t have time or the need for that. Its 24 degrees where we are so certainly not walking round dripping with sweat yet. But without fail, everyone has a shower/bath at night and getting into bed dirty is just 🤢
