I just had a shower as it’s boiling. My friend said I can’t believe you shower a few times a day? Lol she said even when it’s hot I bath once a week 🫢🤣

Shower and hair wash every day rain or shine. Might have a second shower tonight

banquetforphoebe · 27/05/2026 06:12

I had three cool showers yesterday - it was glorious in this heat!

DJKATIE · 30/05/2026 18:58

Morning shower then evening shower every day whatever the weather. Not showering at least daily is grim

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/05/2026 20:07

Sigh. Very nice to call people like me who can’t shower daily ‘grim’, @DJKATIE. A little empathy wouldn't go amiss.

As I’ve said earlier on this thread, I keep myself clean and fragrant, without daily showers.

...not washing is grim. Doesn't have to be a shower.

Tinkerwebbo · 30/05/2026 22:09

Is day showers not normal for the majority? I would not feel awake or clean without my morning shower first thing every day. And in this weather I have 2/3 cold ones a day!

I don't shower a few times a day.

I have been known to have a quick, cool shower twice (sometimes 3) times a day if it's boiling and I'm overheating

NYCLassie · 31/05/2026 00:40

However many times you do/do not shower is not a question of reasonableness. Shower as often as you want and your water bill can stand and let others do the same. Why is there this obsession with monitoring other peoples' eating/hygiene/child rearing practices? What ever happened to minding your own business. It's become a lost art, IMO. Thus endeth the rant. Am I being unreasonable?

Has no one ever heard of a strip wash? In the days before showers how do you think people kept clean?

Good grief 🙄

A bath? You stinky and you don't know it.

You’re basically saying that everyone who can’t physically bath or shower is “stinky”. Trust me, they’re not
I’ve cared for people that haven’t been able to shower or bath for decades. They don’t smell. Because they wash or are washed
as long as somehow you are getting soap and water on your skin, it doesn’t matter how you do it

OneNavyPoster · 31/05/2026 02:57

Some people have disabling health conditions and struggle to shower or have a bath every day. Just standing in a shower or getting in a bath isn't easy or even possible for everyone.

There are other ways to keep clean like Brad Pitt famously using baby wipes when he's too busy for daily showers allegedly, or having a 'french bath' or strip wash, or using no rinse body shampoo but hard to find one that doesn't stink or cost a fortune...

If you wear pure silk next to your skin you don't stink, and it's perfect for sensitive skin, just have to watch out for discounts and sales.

Some people even both need and have AirCon at home. Air/ground source heat pumps that both cool and heat are eco friendly and still VAT free to buy and have installed 'til March 2027.

Rustynailsit · 31/05/2026 05:32

Once a day here but sometimes twice if it’s really hot (over 40c not in UK). When I lived in UK for a few years my then sister-in-law told me off for showering every day when we stayed. I then realised they had 1 shower over 5 days, yuk.

banquetforphoebe · 22/05/2026 20:07

What an odd stance - also, you are aware that years ago when hygiene wasnt what it is now, people ended up with boils and spots, lice, parasites, gangrene and infected skin?

The "good old days" eh? 🙄

You are being ridiculous, people don't get any of those from strip washing.

TotalBaloney · 31/05/2026 08:04

The thing is, there are so many people I encounter who smell unwashed (on public transport, in the office, in shops etc) that there must be a lot of people who either don’t wash regularly, or think they are washing properly but aren’t. It’s clear that they can’t smell themselves, otherwise they’d do something about it. I try to avoid this scenario by having regular showers.
Of course there are people who can’t shower daily, before I get pounced on. But for the majority, a quick shower is easier and more effective than a strip wash.

Absolutely this, I shower daily because I enjoy it, but I don’t think it’s necessary to stand under running water every day to be clean and fresh.

Chrissytommo · 01/06/2026 15:28

That's why we got showers, so we don't have to have a strip wash. Showing your age there

I don’t shower daily, @Mcmach1 - I can’t, due to long covid disability. I have a good wash and use an effective antiperspirant, and a nice perfume, and I do not stink. I am 100% sure - I have asked my dh to be honest with me and he has assured me I don’t smell.
