I just had a shower as it’s boiling. My friend said I can’t believe you shower a few times a day? Lol she said even when it’s hot I bath once a week 🫢🤣

I seriously doubt she only bathes once a week, but you're definitely being unreasonable calling 75 degrees 'boiling.'

DeftGoldHedgehog · 22/05/2026 20:06

I tend to shower every other day when it's not hot, so much better for my skin.

Has no one ever heard of a strip wash? In the days before showers how do you think people kept clean?

Good grief 🙄

What an odd stance - also, you are aware that years ago when hygiene wasnt what it is now, people ended up with boils and spots, lice, parasites, gangrene and infected skin?

The "good old days" eh? 🙄

What's so great about a strip wash? It's messier, takes longer and is less effective than a quick shower.

Not everyone can afford to heat the water needed for a shower.

Once a day is normal or if you work out or been in a hot office all day then sure a quick shower when you come back. ‘A few times a day’ seems excessive. It’s not that hot.

What offices are hot? Most are freezing.

Its not about them being great or not great, its the assumption that if someone says they have a bath or shower once a week, then they're not washing at all. No one needs a shower or bath at all, they can still keep clean

Its horses for courses, I shower every day because I like it, but it doesnt mean Im cleaner than someone who has a strip wash every day. These threads always go the same way with people not understanding how to keep clean without a shower or bath being necessary.

Yes, that's why I clean my clothes with an egg cup full of water and a squirt of Fairy Liquid. It keeps them just as clean as putting them through a hot wash.

Yes because that's just the same 🤪

But they can afford to heat water for a strip wash?

Yes, and apparently they can heat water to wash the daily flannels in the washing machine which is likely more costly than a 2 min shower....

Hang in she gets a bath once a week? Does she not shower at all? That is really odd.
Shower in the morning and then at night if it’s really sweaty day but that is pros key a few times a year

Well, not everyone has a shower...

So it's not odd really.

The only place I ever hear 'strip wash' mentioned is MN !

You're talking about mediaeval times. My dad, born 1925, had no running water in the house but still washed and people in those days weren't covered in boils.

How many of the world's offices have you been in to make this bold claim?

No, but they were smellier than we are now

I worked with the elderly in my teenage years and the ones who rarely washed the whole of their skin ended up with this brown coating on their skin called Dermatitis neglecta. It wasnt pleasant. A flannel wash is not enough

How many has the other poster been in generalising about hot offices? It's not going down a mine or working at a blast furnace.

YANBU another reason to dislike warm weather is people (men IME as I work with them) start stinking really quickly they’re like a French cheese that's just ‘on the turn’ they just about get away with it when it’s cooler

She didn't generalise at all. She offered the possibility "if you've been working in a hot office."

MasterBeth · 22/05/2026 20:25

FlowerSticker · 22/05/2026 20:22

I haven't made any claim.

(Honestly, the standard of reading comprehension on here is going downhill. There should be a test before you post.)

We’re heading into peak fake tan season and so I’ll shower in the evening before adding another layer, then shower again in the morning. I’ll be mahogany by August.

The ones who rarely washed the whole of their skin - you can wash the whole of your skin with a bowl of water and a flannel. I'm not advocating it but had to do this myself for a while in the 1970s and went to a friend's house for a bath once a week.

I don't shower a few times a day.

Nor do I normally, but I have been known to shower in the morning and the evening in really hot weather. Much more pleasant to sleep if you're not sweaty.
