I just had a shower as it’s boiling. My friend said I can’t believe you shower a few times a day? Lol she said even when it’s hot I bath once a week 🫢🤣

A few times a day seems a lot. But once a day is totally normal. And one bath a week is rank.

This.

gingercat02 · Yesterday 16:21

Showering daily is normal regardless of the weather, twice maybe if it's very hot or you have exercised, several times is excessive and wasteful i think.

ChocolateAddictAlways · Yesterday 16:22

I think taking several short showers each day during a heatwave/very hot weather is completely fine (a Malaysian friend tells me this is the norm in the area she grew up in, the showers are really short, barely 2 minutes, you're just washing off the stickiness and sweat and of course, also cooling down)

Isn’t showering once a day pretty much the norm whatever the weather?

I hope so. I have a bath daily, rather than a shower, but the principle is the same.

LlynTegid · Yesterday 16:26

Baths once or twice a week may have been the normal up until the last few years of last century, but daily showers are the normal now.

Doggydoctor · Yesterday 16:29

Wow washing once a week. You’d smell her before you see her. :-)

In our house we all shower every morning.
We all shower again before bed.
Id I’d have a messy day at work (vet) I shower before going home.

Our showers are all very quick 5 mins or less.

RandomUsernameHere · Yesterday 16:32

Once a day or a few times a day?

tryandbepositive · Yesterday 16:34

I live in the shower and only exit for food and number twos. Anything less is rank.

BlackCat14 · Yesterday 16:37

Showering daily in hot weather (or any weather) is normal I would say. But are you talking about more than one shower a day?

I had a shower this morning and was out from a walk from 12-2pm and got back and felt so horrible and sweaty and grim. So I jumped in ice cold shower for about 2mins and felt amazing and refreshed afterwards.

daisychain01 · Yesterday 16:37

I only shower once a month, whether I need it or not.

i sometimes have 1 extra shower a month if I've been training hard every day in this hot weather.

Has no one ever heard of a strip wash? In the days before showers how do you think people kept clean?

Good grief 🙄

Yeah, and in the days before central heating it was freezing and in the days before gas boilers you heated a kettle on the stove to fill a tin bath in front of the fire...

But today, we have showers which are better and we don't need to rub our fannies with a cold flannel standing in front of the kitchen sink.

This.
I don't care if my great great grandparents survived on one bath a week with water shared amongst the family. We all shower at least once a day in my house!

Overworkedandknackered · Yesterday 17:01

A bath once a week? I’m a bit of a minger and even I think that’s ridiculous!

redboxerclub · Yesterday 17:09

Hang in she gets a bath once a week? Does she not shower at all? That is really odd.
Shower in the morning and then at night if it’s really sweaty day but that is pros key a few times a year

PeanutCat1 · Yesterday 17:10

Twice a day when it’s hot and either every day or sometimes every other day when it’s cold for me

momager1 · Yesterday 17:11

Live in a tropical climate so very hot every day. Morning time is a shower if hair wash day, other mornings. pits and bits. Shower every evening before bed to get rid of the days sweat otherwise cannot relax. Never wash hair at night because i air dry my hair (curls) and refuse to go to bed with wet hair

singthing · Yesterday 17:13

Wondering if OP is suddenly going to post a massive drip feed about how she lives in the middle of the Amazonian jungle, while friend lives on an isolated Antarctic Polar research station.

FloydPink · Yesterday 17:16

I shower at least once a day. If I am going out I will always shower (even if just to local pub). AT weekends when I do dinner at lunchtime, I will always shower after too.

The fact is we don't need to have stand up washes at the sink any more! Things get easier, we don't need to resist that just because in days of yore they didn't have it so good.

But people were assuming that someone who has a bath a week doesn’t wash the rest of the time, so is ‘rank’ which is not necessarily the case.,

I'm probably more like your friend but appreciate that it's likely us that are outside of the norm.

You shower once a week in hot weather?

Pointless messy waste of time when you can just get in the shower.

mondaytosunday · Yesterday 19:25

Once a day is normal or if you work out or been in a hot office all day then sure a quick shower when you come back. ‘A few times a day’ seems excessive. It’s not that hot.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · Yesterday 19:29

I don’t shower every day - I have long covid and it is a real struggle to stand for long enough to have a shower. But I have a good wash, sitting down, wash my hair daily, and use a good antiperspirant and perfume, so I am sure I am pleasant to be around.

If we get our bathroom redone, I may get a seat in the shower, because I’d like to shower daily.

EarthaKittsVoice · Yesterday 19:48

In hot weather I shower more than once a day. You've been sweating and all that, you gotta shower/wash more than once.

What's so great about a strip wash? It's messier, takes longer and is less effective than a quick shower.

Its not about them being great or not great, its the assumption that if someone says they have a bath or shower once a week, then they're not washing at all. No one needs a shower or bath at all, they can still keep clean

Its horses for courses, I shower every day because I like it, but it doesnt mean Im cleaner than someone who has a strip wash every day. These threads always go the same way with people not understanding how to keep clean without a shower or bath being necessary.
