I just had a shower as it’s boiling. My friend said I can’t believe you shower a few times a day? Lol she said even when it’s hot I bath once a week 🫢🤣

OP posts:

Sure she did

I'm probably more like your friend but appreciate that it's likely us that are outside of the norm.

Edit: sorry! Quoted in error!

murasaki · 22/05/2026 15:13

A few times a day seems a lot. But once a day is totally normal. And one bath a week is rank.

Lmnop22 · 22/05/2026 15:51

Isn’t showering once a day pretty much the norm whatever the weather?

It is in my house.

NotTheOrdinary · 22/05/2026 15:53

I don't shower a few times a day.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 22/05/2026 15:54

I think once a day is probably average in hot weather. I suspect showering several times a day is outside the norm, but so is one bath a week!

I would probably only have a second shower if I was going out somewhere in the evening

Has no one ever heard of a strip wash? In the days before showers how do you think people kept clean?

Good grief 🙄

ComtesseDeSpair · 22/05/2026 15:59

I suppose it depends on your activity level, though showering a few times a day sounds a bit excessive for just a “normal” day: I shower three times a day on my office days, but I cycle to and from the office and go to the gym at lunchtime, so I’m washing off actual sweat and grime. Home days it’s just one shower.

Once a week is pretty gross unless your friend is having proper washes on the intervening days; though I always wonder about whether any actual time is saved for people who do that, it’s quicker to stand under the shower for a couple of minutes than faff about with a sink and flannels.

VegQueen · 22/05/2026 16:01

I think once a day is surely what most people do? And showering more often due to hot weather is also pretty normal - not everyone does it but it’s not unusual or surprising. People also might shower multiple times a day if they want to feel fresh before going out in the evening or if they’ve exercised after showering in the morning. All very standard.

WallaceinAnderland · 22/05/2026 16:01

Are you talking about more than once a day OP, as you say you just got in the shower now. Did you not have one this morning?

Dweetfidilove · 22/05/2026 16:02

Showering daily is basic in any weather. Twice a day is usual here. Weekly in this weather isn't even a conversation I'm having.

They didn't, to my satisfaction.

We have showers now, so unless it's an emergency, use them.

coneyislandoldspot · 22/05/2026 16:03

It’s normal to shower everyday anyway.

DandelionClockSeeds · 22/05/2026 16:03

Id guess most of the population sits between the two extremes of "once a week" and "a few times a day". I don't think either is particularly common in the uk.

The fact is we don't need to have stand up washes at the sink any more! Things get easier, we don't need to resist that just because in days of yore they didn't have it so good.

Quite, should I get a mangle for the laundry?

It's been said that one of the biggest contributions to women's lib was the washing machine. I'm not going back to finding a stream and some rocks to bang on my washing, thanks.

Branleuse · 22/05/2026 16:09

If it's a heatwave in the middle of summer I will often have a quick shower several times, because it's the only way I can keep cool. It keeps me cool for hours to either have a swim or a cool shower

Loopylalalou · 22/05/2026 16:14

I shower every morning to wash my hair, and every evening as part of my bedtime wind down. In summer, shower before getting ready for a night out.
Family joke that I’ll never die of any germs, as they never get long enough to do any harm.

I shower at least twice a day, regardless of weather. 🤷‍♀️

What's so great about a strip wash? It's messier, takes longer and is less effective than a quick shower.

Happyjoe · 22/05/2026 16:18

Shallow bath with the shower on for me every morning, come rain or shine. In really hot weather and am going out, may have a quick shower then too.

Menopause. Gotta bath a lot so I don't offend those around me!

Shodan · 22/05/2026 16:18

Strip washes are an economical and efficient way to wash, if done properly, and eliminate the need to moisturise an entire body afterwards.

If you live in a very hard water area, and have dry skin, as I do, it's better than showering.

That said- I bath every day in the evening, and will shower if time is short. I will also shower if it's very hot instead of having a bath.

Whichever method is deployed, I think a daily wash is necessary for pretty much all people.

RampantIvy · 22/05/2026 16:18

I posted YABU for showering several times a day.

I shower every day BTW, not several times a day.
