AIBU to think showering daily in hot weather is normal?

I just had a shower as it’s boiling. My friend said I can’t believe you shower a few times a day? Lol she said even when it’s hot I bath once a week 🫢🤣

Is it? And really not very good for the skin (or environment). I would have thought every other day was more normal

The best solution to that is a short daily shower.

Papyrophile · Yesterday 19:56

Today, I washed and shampooed this morning. Then I had a three minute cold shower after an hour of heavy mowing, but no soap except on my feet -- which were filthy.

Allonthesametrain · Yesterday 21:28

Several times a day is OTP, no matter how hot.

A bath once a week is fine with a good main area scrub daily.

Bowies · Yesterday 22:46

Several times a day and once a week in hot weather are both outside the norm IMO.

Copperoliverbear · Yesterday 22:48

she is unhygienic.

BrendaSmall · Yesterday 22:52

if I’m working on the 3 days a week I go to my fitness sessions I shower as soon as I get home from work and shower again after my sessions!

Has no one ever heard of a strip wash? In the days before showers how do you think people kept clean?

Good grief 🙄

It’s the 2020s, not the 1820s

A shower is a whole lot less hassle than a strip wash at the sink for most people surely

Totally, less water everywhere. When not washing my hair, I'm in and out of the shower in less than 5 minutes. I can't imagine a strip wash being quicker or better.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · Today 00:08

It’s better for me, @murasaki, because I struggle to stand for even a very short shower, but can have a good wash sitting down, then just stand long enough to wash my hair.

I don’t do it every day - I shower as often as I can, but disability limits my ability to shower daily. Rest assured, I am clean and fragrant.

Sometimes circumstances force us into things we wouldn’t want or choose.

murasaki · Today 00:12

Fair enough, but I'd have a shower stool to sit on in that case. But yes, needs must and whatever works for you. And I'm sure you are, sorry if I came over as harsh.

Sorry. No matter the weather I shower in the morning and at night before bedtime. I think it is respectful with people I love and work with. Also it is hygienic. A bath/shower once a week?

Unnecessary waste of water

every other day is fine

MasterBeth · Today 00:31

How is it a waste of water?

One of the great uses of water is its ability to help us wash stuff, including ourselves. A waste of water is to keep your tap running for no reason. Keeping yourself clean is a great use of water.

Zerosleep · Today 00:34

I usually shower first thing in the morning and then before I go to bed. Today I showered at lunchtime also because I was pouring with sweat. So not unusual to me. I have however come to realise that most people don’t bathe as often as I do 🤮

GottaBeStrong · Today 00:42

Also called a whores wash.

So glad to know that I (and many other disabled people) am having a whore's wash. 😩

Edited

It’s a waste because showering twice a day is unnecessary

It is not. Specially if you exercise, have sex and sweat. There are others way you can save water, put people are not ready for this conversation. Just check how many L of water to produce a single burger, for example.

Zolanimrod · Today 04:48

When I worked for many years in Bangkok teaching. You have your one “proper” shower and then any subsequent ones needed that day, and for sure you did, make it quick without products. A rinse as it were.
Personsal hygiene tops. I’m

Of course every other day isnt enough - do you exercise? I do.

I go running most days to stay healthy. It would be utterly revolting not to wash after coming home all sweaty and it would certainly not be good for my skin to leave sweat and bacteria on my skin. I would also smell if I did that.

Blimey. Ive never heard such nonsense

What if you exercise every day? Do you think it’s ’fine’ to do a weight lifting session or a 10k run then just spray some deodorant on?
It might be ‘fine’ for some people. It’s not ‘fine’ for all people.
And it’s not a waste of water… it would be a waste if it was just left to go straight from the tap to the sink. It’s being used for a purpose.

How can someone wash their scalp without washing their hair, @Chocolattcoffeecup?

Well obviously you can't 🙄

I'm saying just because your hair might be curly or not seem greasy, you still need a wash more than a couple of times a week.

Chocolattcoffeecup · Today 07:40

vanillasugar2 · Yesterday 14:28

I do wash my scalp when it needs it which is twice a week. Really not seeing an issue with every 3-4 days
some people go 7-14 depending on hair and whether it’s in a protective style or not
I tried every other day and my hair was breaking

I can kind of understand twice a week but 7-14 days is rank.

My hair is slightly dry and very thick. It’s absolutely fine being washed once a week. More often and it would get really dry.

Twice a day when it’s hot. 3 times a day when it’s scorching

Exactly! this obsession with things necessary for living being a "waste" is BS.

A "waste" would be washing my car for ages every other day using the pressure hose. A "waste" would be using the washing machine on the hottest setting you can get it multiple times a day with a tiny load. A "waste" would be turning up my water temp to scalding levels and keeping the central heating on way past when I actually needed it.

Cleaning myself is not a "waste" because its being used for a purpose to keep me clean and my skin healthy.

Good grief, by this rationale, eating more than once a day is a "waste" 🙄

InterestedDad37 · Today 08:50

Bathed once a week in the 60s and 70s, when I was a kid and that was the norm - now shower every morning, and after any exercise that merits it - so usually twice a day.
