I just had a shower as it’s boiling. My friend said I can’t believe you shower a few times a day? Lol she said even when it’s hot I bath once a week 🫢🤣

Not everyone has the hair type where they can wash their hair every time they shower. I don’t have an hour to wash and dry mine daily and it would be wrecked. Most black womens hair would be too

strip washes are fine, and some people have to do them. I’ve cared for people and kept them immaculately clean with a strip washes or bed bath. Some people hadn’t showered for a decade or more

someone will backtrack and say oh I didn’t mean disabled people but either you’re saying strip washes are grim or you’re not

Strip washes are pretty good, if you know how to do them properly (which it seems a lot of showerers don't). The stunning arrogance of those who believe that just because showers weren't a regular part of bathrooms 50-odd years ago, everyone smelled, is shocking.

If you have a tepid shower in which you don't wash your hair, it's unlikely your scalp smells. But if you have a hot shower, somehow managing to keep your hair dry, your scalp still gets damp in the steam. That means excess sebum, trapped sweat, maybe hair products baked in...all leading to a stale-smelling scalp.

So while the ardent showerers are busy pouring scorn on those who clean themselves in a different way, they might like to ponder on that.

I think you can clean a bottom and vilva properly with a flannel.... Millions, if not billions of babies have been washed there with flannels for a very long time...

They certainly clei better than wet wipes!

Yes better than wipes but not as good as a wash with water.

Has no one ever heard of a strip wash? In the days before showers how do you think people kept clean?

Good grief 🙄

This.
And the OP didn't even mention a bath!
FYI I haven't had a bath since getting a shower fitted about 25 years ago, but I usually shower at the gym anyway

I still own a bath, but they make me so lethargic and irritable.
Former partners will attest to that 😁

Wishingplenty · Yesterday 07:59

It is very over indulgent and unnecessary to shower/bath everyday. There literally is not enough hours in the day for this.

No it isn't. I wonder what you prioritize over having a wash. If you're one of these strip wash people, that takes some time, too.

Sure Jan

Right, yeah. I come out of the gym at lunch time and can smell the sweat on myself. But it would be over indulgent of me to shower so that the three people I share an office with can't also smell me 😆

Mich1986 · Yesterday 08:35

Showering once a day is pretty average, I would shower twice if I’d been to the gym or got sweaty from work during the day etc.

OriginalSkang · Yesterday 08:42

Maybe I should do a strip wash at the gym. Yes it would horrify the other members, but it would be less self indulgent!

bongo28 · Yesterday 08:42

I’m going to stick my head up over the parapet here and say I shower roughly every other day and wash my hair once or twice a week. My hair is very thick and curly, so it doesn’t need washing every day. I live with a partner who would certainly tell me if I stink, so I know I don’t. I just don’t see the need to shower if I’ve done nothing 🤷🏻‍♀️ obviously I will shower more if I’ve done exercise/swimming etc etc, but if I’ve just been to work and come home or been at home all day I don’t necessarily feel the need. To make things even worse i’ll add that if I’m not leaving the house I just stay in my pyjamas all day 🤣

Isn’t showering once a day pretty much the norm whatever the weather?

Well one would think

I managed to shower every day once I had a baby - but seems I’m a rare breed if you read mn

Just because your partner cant smell you, it doesnt mean no one else can. People have different senses of smell

True, but I work in a busy office where people have been discreetly told about smell before, and I never have. I wear deodorant and I have a wash in the sink every day, so I am 100% sure I do not smell

NetZeroZealot · Yesterday 08:47

I see the OP has buggered off...

daisychain01 · 22/05/2026 16:37

I only shower once a month, whether I need it or not.

i sometimes have 1 extra shower a month if I've been training hard every day in this hot weather.

Is that because you’re a bath person @daisychain01 ? 🤞

No one is implying you have BO, if you wear deodorant you probably won’t.

But the smell of an unwashed body is different. I catch public transport and can always smell people who haven’t washed themselves that day. Dirty hair is another level again.

FateAmenableToChange · Yesterday 09:05

There are loads of rank stinky people out there. Impossible to use public transport without smelling at least one sadly.

Also called a whores wash.

🤣🤣

Pricelessadvice · Yesterday 09:25

I shower daily all year. If I get really sticky hot in summer, I might have 2 showers in a day.

TheBeaTgoeson1 · Yesterday 10:05

Did she aye

QuietComet · Yesterday 10:27

I shower every other day, mainly for skin and hair health.

I would never judge / call people names because of their own habits.

Bilbobagginsbollox · Yesterday 10:32

Shower once a day. I would stink if I only had one bath a week but I do know people who are less stinky than me!

MangosCarlsen · Yesterday 10:39

It takes less than 5 minutes to shower, barely two minutes if not washing hair. I don’t understand why anyone would want to get into bed without washing off the day, or start the day without freshening up from whatever you get up to in the night. This may not apply so much during winter!

rosydreams · Yesterday 10:41

different people different shakes .I recall as a teenager on a school trip during a heat wave wearing very typical summer clothes my best friend however she was wearing full goth armour .Like all black the leathers chains the lot ,absolutely fine no issues with the heat. Rightio then

Some people are chill with it but personally i love having a shower before bed in the heat then lying directly in front of a fan its so much better feeling than roasting .Its so weird to see how how people live in comparison to yourself but everyone has their own cup of tea

CoffeeCantata · Yesterday 10:48

Or some kind of washing.

I like baths, personally. I'm pretty environmentally aware so, if it's hot and I'm at home with some sweaty chores to do, I'll get up, bung on something old and do those first (mowing the lawn, serious cleaning) and then have my bath, rather than have two baths.

This isn't set in stone, though - obviously if I was going out early and seeing other people I'd always make sure I was freshly washed and dressed in clean clothes.
