To be heartbroken with disappointment at purdy and figg

I've had a rubbish couple of weeks. I treated myself to Purdy and Figg because the nice adverts made me think my house would smell amazing. I'm not usually gullible but I love my house and thought the special smells must be expensive for a reason.

Well, I've been making my family sniff the mantle and window sills for a week now and everyone thinks I'm making up that I put expensive pretty bottle smell on them. You can smell it whilst the spray is coming out and then it's gone next time you are in the room.

AIBU to throw a tantrum that I thought it might last at least a day.

Yes I got this too so I stopped using it. Im pretty pissed off with their hard sell and advertising techniques too so Purdy and Figg can do one.

Thereinaminute · 17/02/2026 12:22

I find this with all insta adverts tbh. You have to remember that they have to pay for all this advertising which leaves less to go into a quality product.

Essential oils will leave a longer lasting smell.

SleekWhisky · 17/02/2026 12:24

Yes, it is rather a load of old codswallop. Whilst they may not excel at delivering a genuinely high-quality product, they are undeniably adept at marketing it. It all feels very much like the Emperor’s New Clothes.

tealandteal · 17/02/2026 12:24

I have to say I also fell for the advertising but find I can smell it when I come down in the morning after cleaning the day before. My skirting is certainly cleaner as I am actually cleaning them!

NewYearNewMee · 17/02/2026 12:25

It’s natural cleaning products isn’t it? Why would you want the smell to linger for days? On a non permeable surface like a mantelpiece, it’s not going to carry a fragrance for days after use of a cleaning product surely?

ComedyGuns · 17/02/2026 12:25

I’m really sorry you had this experience. I was saved from this when I stayed at my sisters last year and she’d bought some and told me to avoid as it’s just marketing hype and it’s pretty useless.

A game changer for us is using a White Company room spray as toilet spray. We could never smell it for that long when we used it in our main areas, but in a small bathroom or toilet area, it instantly hides odours and leaves a lovely smell for quite a while (we currently use Winter).

DappledThings · 17/02/2026 12:26

I can't smell any cleaning product, washing powder, scented candle, Reed diffuser or anything else after the few seconds it's been used. I'd love something that genuinely smells!

Scaredycat259 · 17/02/2026 12:27

I was sucked in by them too, be careful and check your account, they set up an automatic subscription and you can only really access it via an email from them regarding deliveries. Very underhand way to operate.

OK 😁

SpigTheFish · 17/02/2026 12:29

Someone on here described P&F as the Range Rover Evoque of cleaning products. Made me snort! It's so true. Very 'live laugh love' spa day!

Wheresrebeccabunch · 17/02/2026 12:30

I was almost sucked in too but almost every other comment under the ad I saw was from customers saying the same as you OP - that the smell dissipates within mins, what a rip off!

YourKonstantine · 17/02/2026 12:30

I’ve been using them for years and the smell lingers beautifully.

I had to be really blunt with them before they’d cancel my subscription, they just wouldn’t take ‘Please stop my subscription, now’ as a valid request.
They sent two more lots over the following months, refused to refund despite my returning them and me repeatedly requesting they cancel the subscription. I had to threaten them with legal action before they’d act.
Awful company to buy from.

I mean I might be being a little hyperbolic, but I was cheering myself up with them and now I'm sad again as I want my home to smell like a spa as promised 😀

On the upside the blue ecloth is good. I got a kit as part of a gift but didn’t buy any more except the ecloths which you can get on Amazon.

Tulipsriver · 17/02/2026 12:38

I quite like it but I don't really want any cleaning product smell to linger for too long. It smells less chemically than other cleaning sprays which is nice.

I don't think I would have bothered reordering if I didn't accidentally sign up to a subscription though... every time it comes I mean to cancel it, then I forget. They have a clever team!

User415373 · 17/02/2026 12:42

This made me chuckle.
My mum gave me some P&D that she didn't like. What a load of crap.
I've resorted to back to my standard cleaning spray which is washing up liquid mixed with water.
I now have a pretty little electric was melt lamp thingy which actually keeps my house smelling nice all the time, and I like that I can switch up the fragrance.

come on @Caterpillarhopping I'm sure you can find a better way to cheer yourself up!!!

I don't mind P&F though I've cancelled my subscription as I'm over being led down wanky shopping paths on Insta. I like essential oils and I really dislike cleaning products smell etc so its Ok for me.

having said that the wanky Akt deoderant is worth every penny and I'll cancel my subscription when I'm dead😁

Earl of East does lovely "spa like" home frangrances.

I use their "Japanese Forest Bathing" oil in a diffuser for luxury "spa" scent and also on a procelain scent disc in my car

You realise most things you are smelling you are absorbing...not sure why you'd want to absorb whatever they contain?

dubbie · 17/02/2026 13:02

"Heartbroken" is insulting to people who are actually heartbroken.

MissAustenMadeAQuilt · 17/02/2026 13:02

Spray some nice polish on your radiator. As it heats up, the smell will come to the fore!

Rituelec · 17/02/2026 13:04

If i see something selling a hard sell, and/or excessive advertising I know for a fact it won't be any good.

TheMatildaEffect · 17/02/2026 13:04

I decided on DIY instead and bought some essential oils, witch hazel and pretty glass bottles.
Tbh, cost a fortune, faffy and still can't smell anything after an hour 😆.
