To be heartbroken with disappointment at purdy and figg

I've had a rubbish couple of weeks. I treated myself to Purdy and Figg because the nice adverts made me think my house would smell amazing. I'm not usually gullible but I love my house and thought the special smells must be expensive for a reason.

Well, I've been making my family sniff the mantle and window sills for a week now and everyone thinks I'm making up that I put expensive pretty bottle smell on them. You can smell it whilst the spray is coming out and then it's gone next time you are in the room.

AIBU to throw a tantrum that I thought it might last at least a day.

"Heartbroken" is insulting to people who are actually heartbroken.

Don’t be ridiculous.

Someone on here described P&F as the Range Rover Evoque of cleaning products. Made me snort! It's so true. Very 'live laugh love' spa day!

Ok, I've missed the skinny about the Range Rover Evoque- what's wrong with them? In this rural area, they're quite popular.

Magnoliasunrise · 17/02/2026 13:56

I was also really disappointed with P&F OP. I now make my own using isopropyl alcohol (£16 for 5 litres from amazon) 2 parts to 1 part water and add 5/10ml of essential oil (Nikura do some nice ones), in an old spray bottle. No nasty chemicals and you can dilute the scent to suit yourself.

Piknik · 17/02/2026 13:58

P&F were discussed a lot on a recent 'de-influencing' thread (great thread and worth looking up). It was basically people mentioning things that they were considering buying and posters giving them hard truths about why they shouldn't. I actually posted that I was tempted by P&F and told in no uncertain terms that it was a con and the fragrance lasts about three seconds.

I'm sticking with my Method cleaning products which don't last that long but do smell lovely when cleaning.

Overpriced crap…totally ruined my worktop, had to be replaced.

What is your worktop made from?

The rhubarb Method is lovely.

PeppyAmberHedgehog · 17/02/2026 14:05

I was sucked in once. I'm quite glad the smell doesn't linger as it wouldn't be my first choice. It's OK, but not worth the money imo.

Sealed granite.

Don’t buy anything off an Instagram advert. It’s almost always overpriced tat, and about 90% of it you can just buy directly from Temu or AliExpress (especially clothes, leggings, home furnishings, etc). Look at what they have on sale for you to “add” your logo to on Alibaba in particular; kind of makes you realize that 99% of brands are just tat resellers. You want a phone case with a built-in lipgloss? £1.26. You want 60-page, 120gsm paper notebook? 30p. (And if you’re buying your office products, even just home office, anywhere but directly from import sites, you’re absolutely mad - I’ve seen identical products marked up 700% on Amazon and office supply stores.)

thisist · 17/02/2026 14:08

I was also livid. Complete waste of money.

Losingitalloveragain · 17/02/2026 14:11

Fabulosa is so much better and a whole bundle is about a tenner on TikTok

Viviennemary · 17/02/2026 14:12

Inearly gellfor it. But glad I didnt. Its a big con.

MrsBrianJones · 17/02/2026 14:13

I too was taken in but their products only smell good while using, the smell soon goes and their customer service is atrocious.

lindyloo57 · 17/02/2026 14:14

I nearly fell for it, but after seeing the bad reviews I'm glad I didn't, I did however buy AVA Mayfair cleaning products and I've got to say I am impressed, there are all different scents, yes it doesn't last all day but definitely longer than anything I've brought at the supermarket. And the scents are perfume like.

TheBestThingthatAlmostHappened · 17/02/2026 14:15

NewYearNewMee · 17/02/2026 12:25

It’s natural cleaning products isn’t it? Why would you want the smell to linger for days? On a non permeable surface like a mantelpiece, it’s not going to carry a fragrance for days after use of a cleaning product surely?

The adverts are all about how the smell lasts for days. I wouldn't buy it anyway but I'd be annoyed if I bought it for that reason.

Francezi · 17/02/2026 14:17

I absolutely loathe P&F sexist advertising, Insta-flooding and crap products. My DS gave me a box of the 'starter set' or whatever it was. Bloody awful stuff. There are MUCH better products out there.

goldtrap · 17/02/2026 14:18

Is it that brand owned by the posho ladies? They seem quite jolly. I looked on companies house to check, but there are only men listed. Boo.

Thank you for that. I would definitely have succumbed to the hard sell at some point.

JengaCupboard · 17/02/2026 14:22

Their cleaning products are terrible - as in streaky and completely ineffectual. However I tried it a few year ago whilst on a silly offer and do use the swanky bottles for my home-made (possibly toxic) concoctions..

Ironically one of my deliveries was smashed in the cardboard packaging and had leaked in the doormat and the floor - literally stunk for weeks.

WongandLynch · 17/02/2026 14:23

The only cleaning spray I'ver ever used that lingers is the Astonish Winter Spice one, and that's much cheaper than Purdy and Figg! I know a few people who've been ripped off with them using underhand subscription services too, so be sure to check that if you cancel.

Ducksbehindthesofa · 17/02/2026 13:15

Yup, I got sucked in too. And I actively dislike the citrus bathroom cleaner, it gets down me and feels very chemically.

My new all time favourite is INEOS Antibac Multi-Room Cleaner Bergamot + Cedarwood (must be the bergamot and cedarwood one though).

It cleans everthig really well, is great value for money at around £2.50 for 750ml and more importantly, it smells divine - real spa smell!

INEOS products definitely linger, a little too long for my taste but will probably work well for you OP. They do smell very nice.

I also find Neat lingers as well. The fig shower spray lasts all day.

UnctuousUnicorns · 17/02/2026 14:28

Ah, those YouTube adverts... "So, what's in the box, you ask?" No, I don't ask, I don't give a shit, actually. Ah, now I can press "Skip" so I can carry on watching the video.

Anndalouzier · 17/02/2026 14:29

God is it as bad as that laundry detergent stuff

Is the ‘deinfluencer thread’ on MN? I’m almost falling for Elevate Collegen and Hume Health weighing scales - need to know if they are a con

LightningMode · 17/02/2026 14:31

Bloody pointless stuff. I too was taken in by the lovely-seeming naturalness and "My home smelt like a spa!" bollocks.

Then they did some adverts recently, saying "You told us, we listened! No more streaks with our glass cleaner!". I mean, WTF? Surely having no streaks with a glass cleaner is job number one on day one of creating the product? 🙄
