To be heartbroken with disappointment at purdy and figg

I've had a rubbish couple of weeks. I treated myself to Purdy and Figg because the nice adverts made me think my house would smell amazing. I'm not usually gullible but I love my house and thought the special smells must be expensive for a reason.

Well, I've been making my family sniff the mantle and window sills for a week now and everyone thinks I'm making up that I put expensive pretty bottle smell on them. You can smell it whilst the spray is coming out and then it's gone next time you are in the room.

AIBU to throw a tantrum that I thought it might last at least a day.

I use KOh which is scentless but add a tiny splash of Zoflora in the spray bottle. It smells amazing for ages. In fact I had to hide the Zoflora bottles from the cleaner because she was adding so much it was overpowering!

I would highly recommend KOH. It's the only thing I use throughout the house. It does everything - including carpets, upholstery and trainers!

Be careful using Zoflora if you have pets, especially on surfaces they may go on. It needs to be quite diluted to be safe.

I admit, I’m giggling a bit at “heartbroken with disappointment,” OP. If that’s how you feel now… how would you feel if you came in 4th at the Olympics??? “Heart-smashed with unfathomable depths of disillusionment”? 😂

BUT I do understand having a rubbish few weeks, trying to cheer yourself up, and having it fail spectacularly instead. It absolutely sucks. I hope things get better for you!

Shufflebumnessie · 17/02/2026 14:37

@ComedyGuns thanks for the tip about using the White Company room spray in the toilet. I have never found a bathroom air freshner that I actually like the smell of, but I imagine TWC sprays are significantly more luxurious.
Can I ask what scents you've tried apart from the Winter? I'm tempted by Seychelles, Sea Salt or Spring. Possibly Portofino. I don't have any stockists near me so I can't go and sniff them in person! Any recommendations? Thanks

LightningMode · 17/02/2026 14:39

Is P&F still a conscription model? If so, make sure to remember to cancel yours, OP!

fyllnadspenna · 17/02/2026 14:47

I like a cheap diffuser and a few nice (not necessarily expensive) essential oils or blends for fresh smells. It smells while it's diffusing, mostly, but I really notice it as I come and go through the rooms. Having a few options allows you to swap them out and makes them more noticeable to me.

I also have a diffuser necklace that's basically a filigree-style locket. You put a little pad of fabric in it, a few drops of a nice oil on the fabric, and carry your scent around right under your nose all day.

BauhausOfEliott · 17/02/2026 14:48

Yes, Purdy & Figg is absolute shite. The smell doesn't last and it's a totally useless cleaning product for anything except a quick wipe of a non-soiled surface.

Putyourownlifejacketonfirst · 17/02/2026 14:48

Purdy and Fig is rubbish, I love a nice smell in my house so fell for their adverts. Luckily, I did a trial order and cancelled my subscription on my first use.
i swear by Valletta diffusers and room spray, switched over from J M
when their diffusers went to nearly £80.00 when I retired and felt I shouldn’t spend so much, I actually prefer them and the smell lasts much longer.

It’s natural cleaning products isn’t it? Why would you want the smell to linger for days? On a non permeable surface like a mantelpiece, it’s not going to carry a fragrance for days after use of a cleaning product surely?

It's advertised as having a lingering smell as its USP - lots of claims that it will make your home smell like a spa etc or that it's like aromatherapy for your house or some such bullshit.

It's also no more 'natural' than any other cleaning product. It's a small amount of scented, concentrated cleaning product that you dilute yourself with water. It's still a manufactured, chemical product like any other. Just an expensive one that you add your own water to.

66babe · 17/02/2026 14:52

Have you ever tried the range of Spanish cleaning products ? I get mine in B&M and love them
Kitchen , bathroom , floor cleaner - not tried the laundry products but I can smell them in my house- which I love
My favourite is the pink bottle called Asevi , I’m rubbish at links but will try a pic

i asked ChatGPT to list the best reviewed ones and it said that Seychelles, Pomegranite and Lime & Bay were the top three.

I bought Winter last December as it smelt so Christmassy. It’s only just running out now and they’ve just launched Santa Fe, which I’m looking forward to trying.

Is it that brand owned by the posho ladies? They seem quite jolly. I looked on companies house to check, but there are only men listed. Boo.

Edited

They're fake. Probably AI as well 😬

Yes it’s utter bollocks

I like P&F.

I don’t really want the smell to linger a long time though, I like that it’s natural (doesn’t fuck with the septic tank) and that you only get those small glass bottles which can then be recycled- much more eco-friendly than massive plastic bottles of cleaning products.

Well if it makes you feel any better you have done a kindness in saving me from wasting money as I have always been tempted by it!

Sounds like the homeopathy of cleaning products.

That must be HUGE profits as 99.9% of the ingredients is water.

No wonder they can afford to keep splashing the cash on advertising.

Asevi laundry products are great. I use their Marseille Soap laundry detergent, and it smells amazing without being overpowering like so many are these days. Definitely recommend.

Aquarius91 · 17/02/2026 15:18

OP get Kifra. The air fresheners linger forever the fragrances are gorgeous. I use the laundry perfume too, so whenever I do a wash you can smell it across the whole house for the entire day. It’s gorgeous, and you really do only need to use the tiny amount that’s suggested.

Babyijustdontgetit · 17/02/2026 15:19

Yep! Same. I’m not heartbroken but it’s crap and doesn’t smell at all!

Sunloungerhogger · 17/02/2026 15:25

Fairy25 · 17/02/2026 13:14

It’s a cleaning product. Do your other cleaning products smell for days after? I Like it because it is natural without horrible chemicals and it smells nice when you clean. Does the advertising say it smells for ages? If it does, I agree that’s not the case.

I agree with this. I don’t really want any cleaning product smell to linger, I just want my house to smell ‘clean’ by which I suppose I mean not actually smell of anything. Too strong smells irritate my nose and/or give me a headache. I have to admit I do use P&F to wipe down in the kitchen, because I like not using things in lots of plastic, and that the scents smell of natural essential oils. I find the cleaning fine - it doesn’t have to be super good at cleaning as it’s just for a wipe down that cuts through any grease, it’s not the actual cleaning cleaning - I get Method products that our cleaner uses, again because they aren’t too chemically. As far as I know she’s happy they clean fine.

CeciliaMars · 17/02/2026 15:25

They’re rubbish. Emperor’s new clothes. Very expensive for a glass bottle and a few very generic essential oils, and don’t actually clean anything properly. There have been lots of other threads about them on here…

aliceinawonderland · 17/02/2026 15:35

I clean more because I love the smell and gives it does linger.
I’ve also found it really easy just to log into my account and cancel a subscription

And they don’t force you to take out a subscription… people sign up to one due to the massive price reduction
