To be heartbroken with disappointment at purdy and figg

I've had a rubbish couple of weeks. I treated myself to Purdy and Figg because the nice adverts made me think my house would smell amazing. I'm not usually gullible but I love my house and thought the special smells must be expensive for a reason.

Well, I've been making my family sniff the mantle and window sills for a week now and everyone thinks I'm making up that I put expensive pretty bottle smell on them. You can smell it whilst the spray is coming out and then it's gone next time you are in the room.

AIBU to throw a tantrum that I thought it might last at least a day.

I nearly fell for their hype, but I bought a single unopened bottle that someone was selling on Vinted, just to check that it wasn't a migraine trigger, and it smelt horrible and didn't last at all. I've gone back to Miniml, although a lot of people seem to like Adora.

funmamamoo · 17/02/2026 13:05

I could have written this! Smell lasts 2 seconds and doesn’t clean well. Never again.

plentyofsunshine · 17/02/2026 13:06

Heartbroken? Ffs

TightlyLacedCorset · 17/02/2026 13:07

I really like them, it takes continuous regular use for the scent to build up substantially but I find it does make a difference after even one use.

That said I am a total slattern both by choice and sadly now by disability, so maybe the slightest upgrade feels more substantial than it actually is.

But also as a severe allergy sufferer, I prefer them. I cannot tolerate air sprays and the scented gel dispensers.

Idleplum · 17/02/2026 13:11

Well, this thread has saved me from parting with my cash for the stuff, which I was considering doing so thanks!

CliptyClop · 17/02/2026 13:11

I buy it and think it’s great, my kitchen and bathroom smell amazing and the toilet drop smells amazing especially, they clean really well as also!

TheGoddessAthena · 17/02/2026 13:11

NewYearNewMee · 17/02/2026 12:25

It’s natural cleaning products isn’t it? Why would you want the smell to linger for days? On a non permeable surface like a mantelpiece, it’s not going to carry a fragrance for days after use of a cleaning product surely?

Clean is clean. Odourless, fresh. This idea that clothes or your house have to smell of whatever chemicals you have used to clean them is totally warped.

Soooooo · 17/02/2026 13:12

DH got sucked into this bullshit too. What a fool.

LemonPenguin · 17/02/2026 13:13

Completely agree OP, I do like the smell for the seconds I’m spraying them, but they don’t linger at all. I thought maybe if I used them in our tiny downstairs toilet room they might, but even in that small room with the door closed, still no scent when you go back in later. I bought some without subscription as had seen comments about them being very hard to cancel, I wouldn’t ever buy them again: When I had cleaners years ago, I’d always come home and know they’d been as my house smelt lovely (maybe it was just a spray or something they used at the end), I never thought to ask what they used.

Fairy25 · 17/02/2026 13:14

It’s a cleaning product. Do your other cleaning products smell for days after? I Like it because it is natural without horrible chemicals and it smells nice when you clean. Does the advertising say it smells for ages? If it does, I agree that’s not the case.

Ducksbehindthesofa · 17/02/2026 13:15

Yup, I got sucked in too. And I actively dislike the citrus bathroom cleaner, it gets down me and feels very chemically.

My new all time favourite is INEOS Antibac Multi-Room Cleaner Bergamot + Cedarwood (must be the bergamot and cedarwood one though).

It cleans everthig really well, is great value for money at around £2.50 for 750ml and more importantly, it smells divine - real spa smell!

TonTonMacoute · 17/02/2026 13:16

I bought the very cheap opening deal then cancelled, as I didn't really like the fragrances very much.

it's over a year and I've used a fraction of it. The bottles and cloths are nice and it's okay as a handy bottle of cleaning stuff, so I don't think it's that bad value for a one off.

Agree, the hype is absurd.

devongirl12 · 17/02/2026 13:16

It looks amazing but I’ve never bought it for this reason.

ive never been “tight”, but I’m getting increasingly fed up of constant aggressive marketing techniques, people from every direction aggressively pedalling their wares of increasingly shit quality.

I just don’t want any of it anymore.

Agrumpyknitter · 17/02/2026 13:21

I use it because it’s a natural cleaning product. It smells good when you use it but if I want to mask or clear up say cooking smells I boil a pot of water with lemons and cinnamon, and it clears the smells from the kitchen. Obviously I open the window as well. I find purdy and fig products good on grease so that’s won me over. I don’t use lots so it lasts for a while.

KiwiFall · 17/02/2026 13:25

Personally I like it and can smell it for the rest of the day. I use in the kitchen mainly and as it gets wiped down every day it works for me. Find it is more subtle than the overbearing chemical smells of others but it is pricey.

CuppaTandBicky · 17/02/2026 13:29

Thanks for the warning.
I'm an absolute sucker for the insta ads.
I've had all sorts of absolute rubbish because the ads just keep popping up all the time.

Halaira (?) leggings - they're rubbish
Wonder skin lip stain - rubbish
Il makiage foundation - rubbish

This is just another thing that pops up again and again and I'm TOO WEAK!!
I will not be buying it.

I think genuinely good stuff probably just sells itself rather than has to keep popping up again and again and again via targeted ads...

Aw, its showing as out of stock and no indication if it will ever be restocked.

xogossipgirlxo · 17/02/2026 13:35

Another marketing con

Empress13 · 17/02/2026 13:35

Do an honest review and save some poor other sucker some money

silentnight000 · 17/02/2026 13:37

I love (most of) their smells but I agree they do not last long at all, it is marketing nonsense. I signed up to a Christmas bundle and have just noticed that my next ‘order’ is in the post which is my own stupid fault for not cancelling. I am cancelling my subscription today.

The only thing I’ve found that is halfway decent in terms of longevity are the loo drops, but that’s probably only because my downstairs loo is tiny so doesn’t take a lot to maintain a nice smell in there!

I want my home to smell like a spa, goddammit, and it never does. My kitchen sides get sprayed and wiped down multiple times a day and the smell is gone as soon as they’re dry.

I do like the Tallow and Ash fabric sprays, but even those don’t last very long. NEOM also do these little hanging ceramic circles that only cost a fiver each that you can drop their lovely smelly oils on. I keep one in my shoe cupboard and that actually does last for a good week before I need to add a few more drops.

gerispringer · 17/02/2026 13:42

I quite like the smells and the concept that it’s avoiding too much plastic, but I’ve cancelled my subscription as I don’t like things arriving when I actually don’t need them, plus I don’t like the constant sell. The Cornish Seaweed shampoo though - that’s overhyped rubbish.

gerispringer · 17/02/2026 13:43

White vinegar is better at actual cleaning.

Mum2Fergus · 17/02/2026 13:44

Overpriced crap…totally ruined my worktop, had to be replaced.

Ducksbehindthesofa · 17/02/2026 13:45

thenightsky · 17/02/2026 13:33

Aw, its showing as out of stock and no indication if it will ever be restocked.

It's easily obtainable at Sainsbury, Tesco and Waitrose!

ForEdgyHare · 17/02/2026 13:47

YANBU OP I really wanted to try these sprays but a friend got them and said they were crap so I didn’t bother. I hate a disappointing purchase 😂 But you might get some comfort that someone will read this and not waste money? Im using Tallow and Ash fabric sprays and they are ok
