To be heartbroken with disappointment at purdy and figg

I've had a rubbish couple of weeks. I treated myself to Purdy and Figg because the nice adverts made me think my house would smell amazing. I'm not usually gullible but I love my house and thought the special smells must be expensive for a reason.

Well, I've been making my family sniff the mantle and window sills for a week now and everyone thinks I'm making up that I put expensive pretty bottle smell on them. You can smell it whilst the spray is coming out and then it's gone next time you are in the room.

AIBU to throw a tantrum that I thought it might last at least a day.

YABU to feel heartbroken with disappointment - waaayyy over the top - but YANBU for being annoyed that you paid for something that didn't do what you expected it to do. Yes, I'm sure you knew you were exaggerating, but that minimises those people who have issues which really do leave them heartbroken?

morebutterthantoast · 17/02/2026 15:40

The adverts are pretty and full on and they almost managed to convince me that the products would up and clean the house for me a la the sorceror's apprentice.
My best and easiest cleaning pretty much involves white vinegar, washing up liquid and baking soda, a magic sponge (and a bit of bleach here and there occasionally) - and I try hard not to be swayed from this!

Flowerlovinglady · 17/02/2026 15:40

Yeah, I got a whole lot a while ago now and some of their bottles too. To be fair, I really liked their cloths but otherwise, I felt it wasn't worth the money and didn't re-order.

On the upside the blue ecloth is good. I got a kit as part of a gift but didn’t buy any more except the ecloths which you can get on Amazon.

Yes I agree! I bought mire on Amazon too. They’re the best cloths I have tried

CornishTiger · 17/02/2026 15:45

Basically it’s just two expensive cloths and some nice spray bottles!

Cloths are good though.

SomethingUniqueThisTime · 17/02/2026 15:45

I once worked for a high end interiors company selling a ‘lifestyle’ with their ‘hand-picked’ interiors. It was quite a nice job with good perks, but the major benefit was I quickly realised that marketing of high end products was a complete illusion.
Of course all their products came in cardboard boxes, on the back of a lorry from a warehouse near Slough, as customers we are just spending money trying to be part of a fake lifestyle. Opening a damaged box full of spilt oily chemicals and squashed candles firmly brings you down to earth.

Soontobesingles · 17/02/2026 15:53

I like my purdy and figg products. I enjoy the smell while I am using them, and my house is clean without a lot of chemical cleaners. I don’t find the smell lingers but nor would I expect it to? Even an aromatherapy diffuser fades quite quickly after you turn it off!

exse24Londoner · 17/02/2026 16:09

sorry you've been ripped off like so many before you (& me!!).......... it is a terrible product that neither cleans or keeps a nice smell. Agree with other posters - keep an eye out for automatic subscriptions - they are shameless. Even after I cancelled the subscription they kept sending me emails - in the end, I went down the data protection route & asked them to delete all my details etc etc.

would definitely recommend Nancy Birtwhistle's book - using essential oils as she describes works, is far longer lasting & cheaper by a mile

INEOS products definitely linger, a little too long for my taste but will probably work well for you OP. They do smell very nice.

I also find Neat lingers as well. The fig shower spray lasts all day.

I use the Neat handwashes, and they are actually really nice. Good to do away with plastic bottles.

I don’t subscribe though, you can buy the bottles and the refills from Ocado, which is what I’ve done. The smell lasts on your hands for ages. I love the yellow one and the green one.

DonnyDoris · 17/02/2026 16:16

The Ineos range in supermarkets is really good and the fragrances remain subtly, especially if you spray them on radiators. I particularly like the Bergamot and Sandalwood one (green bottle)

Ok, I've missed the skinny about the Range Rover Evoque- what's wrong with them? In this rural area, they're quite popular.

I drove an Evoque once, I'm short and managed to bang my head getting in and out. Nothing special about driving it or the comfort

ChocolateCinderToffee · 17/02/2026 16:29

OP, get yourself to H&B and buy some lavender oil. It lasts for ages and does smell nice.

MsSmartShoes · 17/02/2026 16:32

YABU to invest so much into a cleaning product that you’re heartbroken with disappointment.

heartbroken?
By an Instagram cleaning product.
OK 😁

Totally agree, there's one born every minute. 🙄

Apparently not, if you couldn't recognise the OP's exaggeration for humorous effect.

And there is apparently one born every minute that doesn't understand when a post is clearly humorous 🙄

Never heard of them.

"Heartbroken" is insulting to people who are actually heartbroken.

and how could you possibly quantify heartbreak? I was fighting tears today triggered into thinking of something years ago which I’d say left me heartbroken but that probably wouldn’t meet your standards it wasn’t about cleaning spray tho we all know “don’t compare grief” so there’s no industry standard heartbreak meter and nor should there be 🤷🏽‍♀️

wishingonastar101 · 17/02/2026 16:49

My cleaner used to use zoflora on my hall floor and it always smelt lovely! idkw but it's not the same when I do it!
The other thing that is nice is Aesops poo drops.

RS1987 · 17/02/2026 16:55

I like it.

Wale90 · 17/02/2026 16:55

We use the good clean stuff kits, the cloths are great and the spray smell is purposefully subtle (my preference)

The real benefit is the value which gives you ten full cleaning bottles worth but with one aluminium bottle. No more plastic bottles cluttering the sink.

Also they cut through the hype of having multiple cleaners across your home, it's a proper do it all spray.

Their plastic free laundry detergent sheets are pretty good to.

I thought it was Posh Paint 🤦‍♂️🤷

You got people to sniff your window sills OP?
Pure madness.
