To be heartbroken with disappointment at purdy and figg

I've had a rubbish couple of weeks. I treated myself to Purdy and Figg because the nice adverts made me think my house would smell amazing. I'm not usually gullible but I love my house and thought the special smells must be expensive for a reason.

Well, I've been making my family sniff the mantle and window sills for a week now and everyone thinks I'm making up that I put expensive pretty bottle smell on them. You can smell it whilst the spray is coming out and then it's gone next time you are in the room.

AIBU to throw a tantrum that I thought it might last at least a day.

I mean I might be being a little hyperbolic, but I was cheering myself up with them and now I'm sad again as I want my home to smell like a spa as promised 😀

Get yourself a Jo Malone candle

Yup, I got sucked in too. And I actively dislike the citrus bathroom cleaner, it gets down me and feels very chemically.

My new all time favourite is INEOS Antibac Multi-Room Cleaner Bergamot + Cedarwood (must be the bergamot and cedarwood one though).

It cleans everthig really well, is great value for money at around £2.50 for 750ml and more importantly, it smells divine - real spa smell!

I used to love this stuff, but sadly can't buy it anymore as the owner has put me off (not looking for political debate, just my feeling)

@Caterpillarhopping The only cleaning sprays Ive used which smell nice for a short while while afterwards are Method Deep house cleaning spray and Flash spray wipe done in something berries. I even just spray the Method one on curtains and the sofa, just to get more of it. It's limited edition so I am buying when I can to stock up.
I also like the Cif Infinite sprays, esp the green one and the blue one, but even the lavender one is nice, I just prefer the other two

AgathaX · 17/02/2026 17:11

As everyone has already said, P&F scent doesn't last, it doesn't clean, it's overpriced and the bottles leak (I've had two and both leaked).
The cloths are quite nice, but no better than many others.

BloominNora · 17/02/2026 17:12

We use Purdy and Figg

My DH works with cleaning chemicals for living and make cold processed soap as a hobby. Although the smell doesn't last, he really rates the cleaning and degreasing ability of Purdy and Figg (something about their surfactant mix being really good 💁).

We've also used Smol, Method and the Zoflora spary in the past and he thought all of those were crap!

And there is apparently one born every minute that doesn't understand when a post is clearly humorous 🙄

Really? This is humour? 🙄

It’s natural cleaning products isn’t it? Why would you want the smell to linger for days? On a non permeable surface like a mantelpiece, it’s not going to carry a fragrance for days after use of a cleaning product surely?

It's supposed to though. That's their advertising hook.

They lie.

"Heartbroken" is insulting to people who are actually heartbroken.

I have had the shittest three weeks imaginable and am actually heartbroken.

I couldn't be less insulted.

@Caterpillarhopping I feel your pain I fell for the Always Pan nonsense.

goldtrap · 17/02/2026 17:31

It is odd though that when I clean I can't smell the benefit, but when my cleaners clean it smells so lovely. I think they use Method but maybe they just use more of it then me? They are magical wizards that is for sure.

RobinEllacotStrike · 17/02/2026 12:54

come on @Caterpillarhopping I'm sure you can find a better way to cheer yourself up!!!

I don't mind P&F though I've cancelled my subscription as I'm over being led down wanky shopping paths on Insta. I like essential oils and I really dislike cleaning products smell etc so its Ok for me.

having said that the wanky Akt deoderant is worth every penny and I'll cancel my subscription when I'm dead😁

Ooh I have been eyeing up akt, I'm a sweaty Betty, currently mainlining Mitchems, and the idea that akt keeps musical theatre dancers dry and stinkfree is the perfect sell! How do you find it?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/02/2026 17:43

Geez, lots of seemingly bitter people setting high bars for lighthearted posts today. 🙄

FreeWheezin · 17/02/2026 17:44

I am so glad I found this thread! I was almost sucked in too! I'll stick to Smol, anti-bac Febreeze and whatever TK Maxx candles i have on the go

Akt is bloody brilliant. I won't use anything else now. Lasts for ages too.

PottyMouther · 17/02/2026 18:07

Another one who got sucked in by all their advertising, featuring influencers hosing down their door frames, saying how amazing it smells.

There's hardly any fragrance at all especially considering how monstrously expensive it was and you couldn't get a bottle of it to last more than 2 weeks so was burning through the 3 month supply at a rate of knots.

You also can't choose what fragrances you'd like, you're just given whatever seasonal package is available and there were a few I really didn't like but couldn't ask not to have them again.

Whole set up is an absolute racket. I am still constantly bombarded with their advertising and I report and block every single one. I now make my own using castille soap, tea tree oil and lavender for a fraction of the cost and actually think it smells better.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 17/02/2026 18:07

Sounds a bit like the Tallow & Ash laundry products. I got sucked in only to realise that the scent fades from your clean laundry in a very short time. It’s also very expensive for the number of washes it does.

Uh-oh...what is that I don't know??!

Hiptothisjive · 17/02/2026 18:12

It’s hard to care for such hyperbolic language over a scent gone wrong.

OP if it bothers you to the point of heartbroken you have much bigger things to be concerned about.

femfemlicious · 17/02/2026 18:15

Zippedydodah · 17/02/2026 12:33

I had to be really blunt with them before they’d cancel my subscription, they just wouldn’t take ‘Please stop my subscription, now’ as a valid request.
They sent two more lots over the following months, refused to refund despite my returning them and me repeatedly requesting they cancel the subscription. I had to threaten them with legal action before they’d act.
Awful company to buy from.

You should have blocked them through your bank. You can cancel subscriptions with my bank Halifax in the app

DailyMaui · 17/02/2026 18:17

The only candles I have found that actually throw a decent smell are The White Company, St Eval and Diptyque - although I have not had one from Diptyque for ages so that may not be the case now. Mind you, I am currently burning a St Eval Holy Smoke candle and I cannot smell it which I am quite cross about. Their Winter Thyme and Inspiritus ones are bloody gorgeous though.

Like another poster, I have an electric wax melt thingie and I use essential oils in that which works really well. I also like The Mother's India incense sticks, which are all hand made with essential oils - Prem is really lovely. The smell lingers all day too.

CossyBunt · 17/02/2026 18:29

I can recommend ( for bathrooms & kitchens) the M&S range of disinfectants. They all smell gorgeous and the scent lingers for ages.

CossyBunt · 17/02/2026 18:30

I also wipe the radiators down with it and it gives off a lovely fresh scent.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 17/02/2026 18:32

As soon as I see stuff like this on Facebook ads, I just know it will be shite. Ignore it!

Evaka · 17/02/2026 18:35

Their twee, smug, earnest bore ads make me want to peel my skin off. And the audio one about jazz? Fml.

WobblyBoots · 17/02/2026 18:38

I think they have a 30 day money back thing?

I wouldn't normally bother and chalk it up to experience but I have used these money back things on a few insta failures (Hello Kleen? Of course, no match for the lime scale of the SE, why did I think it would be!?).

I couldn’t because it wasn’t a DD. Hence taking so long to get them to respond.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 17/02/2026 19:00

See also Tallow & Ash. Lovely for about 10 minutes.
