To be heartbroken with disappointment at purdy and figg

I've had a rubbish couple of weeks. I treated myself to Purdy and Figg because the nice adverts made me think my house would smell amazing. I'm not usually gullible but I love my house and thought the special smells must be expensive for a reason.

Well, I've been making my family sniff the mantle and window sills for a week now and everyone thinks I'm making up that I put expensive pretty bottle smell on them. You can smell it whilst the spray is coming out and then it's gone next time you are in the room.

AIBU to throw a tantrum that I thought it might last at least a day.

Really? This is humour? 🙄

Well, yes. It's called hyperbole. HTH!

LightningMode · 17/02/2026 19:11

Hiptothisjive · 17/02/2026 18:12

It’s hard to care for such hyperbolic language over a scent gone wrong.

OP if it bothers you to the point of heartbroken you have much bigger things to be concerned about.

Hyperbolic language is literally the humour here.

Honestly, all you po-faced lot are just showing your ignorance 😆

plasbks · 17/02/2026 19:14

I dunno. I saw the ad with a man cleaning wearing only a vest so I thought I wouldn't ever buy a product marketed like that. Unless it was a bloody vest.

ImPamDoove · 17/02/2026 19:40

Their entire MO is that it smells amazing. It doesn’t. Zoflora last 20x longer. Not unreasonable to be heartbroken. 😂

You should have blocked them through your bank. You can cancel subscriptions with my bank Halifax in the app

you go onto your account/subscription, click “more options “ and then cancel subscription

Easy peasey

This is what annoys me. The whole point, the very core of their advertising is that it’s supposed to be a long lasting scent. Bullshit!!

I have tried cleaning radiators and the like with it. I even tried wiping some of the oil on the top of my radiators, neat.

No smell once it’d dried.

It is crap!!

MrsChristmasHasResigned · 17/02/2026 19:56

Tried it and was not impressed. The nicest lingering smell I found came from some cheapo wipes from B&M. Not sure I would be heartbroken by the situation though.

MaidOfSteel · 17/02/2026 20:02

Same here. The scent was there for about an hour, then you’d never know it had been used. Waste of time.

AliTheMinx · 17/02/2026 20:04

Absolute waste of time, although I like the cloths and the glass bottles! I just use them with different products now..

Thehop · 17/02/2026 20:06

P&F are rubbish

they did a shit job on my mirrors and ruined my friends kitchen cabinets

stick with marks and Spencer's for posh now. They smell lovely and do a good job

Geez, lots of seemingly bitter people setting high bars for lighthearted posts today. 🙄

OMG! aren't there....... people reacting really angrily to the use of heartbroken.... wow - think I might need some smelling salts 😂

exse24Londoner · 17/02/2026 21:03

talking of nice smells though, these are great - very popular in my house even when not needed!!!
Post-Poo Drops | Toilet Deodoriser

I'm also a fan of diffusers - the electronic ones make me nervous - oil warmed by electricity etc., so I stick to reed but they are incredibly variable as to how long they last.

Jo Malone proper good & proper expensive, White Company...... hmmmmmm........

catera · 17/02/2026 21:09

I find the rhubarb method floor cleaner lingers in my bathrooms. I used it to mop the work toilets and they smelled nice for ages too

Plmnki · 17/02/2026 21:10

Leave a big screechy message on trustpilot and on every one of their incessant instagram adverts. I wouldn’t use them on principle TBH, it appeared to be obviously a con, sorry you got sucked in :(

only buy stuff from brick and mortar stores in future to avoid snake oil sales?

Bankiebabe · 17/02/2026 21:34

I stopped using them as I could not smell anything. Tbh shop bought ones smell last much longer. I felt them were complete waste of money.

Giggorata · 18/02/2026 13:50

I am also very disappointed with their stuff. At that price, I would want to be able still to smell it in a month's time, not a minute's time.

Sneaky about the subscription, too.

I'm beginning to agree with Plmnki.

Ooh - this is going on my list!

Iamthemoom · 18/02/2026 15:52

I love it. I use it because it’s natural primarily without harsh chemicals and it cleans really well. And I do find the scent lingers on wood and soft furnishings. Not the kitchen or bathroom maybe but the toilet scent Ooh de loo lingers if you drop a drop inside the loo roll.

3catsandcounting · 18/02/2026 16:18

I tried INEOS (green one) and although it smelt lovely, it didn’t linger for me.
As mentioned above, the Spanish cleaning products (Asevi etc) are fab; smells just like a holiday villa. Some are a bit strong, but my personal faves,
Brisa Multi-Surface cleaner
Disiclin (gold or silver ones in particular) and
Destello Spa (these are ‘floor cleaners’ but I just decant into spray bottles.
The Marsella French Soap cleaner too!
I usually get these online but I’ve found they’re appearing in some shops now.

TimeForATerf · 18/02/2026 16:22

I almost fell for the hype too, about a year ago, but actually did a Google search along the lines of “Mumsnet Purdy & Figg” The majority of comments were that it was over rated, so I didn’t order it. Thank you MN.

I admit, I’m giggling a bit at “heartbroken with disappointment,” OP. If that’s how you feel now… how would you feel if you came in 4th at the Olympics??? “Heart-smashed with unfathomable depths of disillusionment”? 😂

BUT I do understand having a rubbish few weeks, trying to cheer yourself up, and having it fail spectacularly instead. It absolutely sucks. I hope things get better for you!

To be fair if I make it to the Olympics as a 42year old mother of 3 who has so little time and hobbies, I get excited by cleaning products, then I would be fairly gleeful at 4th place. Maybe I will take up curling. It's essentially sweeping after all....

i asked ChatGPT to list the best reviewed ones and it said that Seychelles, Pomegranite and Lime & Bay were the top three.

I bought Winter last December as it smelt so Christmassy. It’s only just running out now and they’ve just launched Santa Fe, which I’m looking forward to trying.

Thank you. I saw the Santa Fe and was tempted by that too. Decisions, decisions...

Theonlywayicanloveyou · 18/02/2026 21:21

It’s not actually a cleaning product, which was my main problem with it. I’m usually quite easily influenced, but not with this
