Am I having some kind of fever dream? Robert Jenrick

Am I having some kind of waking fever dream or was Robert Jenrick part of the Conservative governments he’s now busily accusing of failing Britain? It almost feels like gaslighting.

He's always come across as a bit of a bell end.

Butchyrestingface · 15/01/2026 17:12

Not al all the thread I was expecting.

I thought your “fever dream” was going to be that he has only today come to your attention and now you want him to be the father of your babies.

No. Just no.

I remember the look on the face of his wife Michal Berkener when Badenoch beat him for the leadership, and I thought then that she’d have her revenge.

He’s made a mistake. They both have.

AmberSpy · 15/01/2026 17:21

He and Zahawi are both pathetic imo – a couple of low calibre ex-ministers desperately trying to revive their careers by jumping ship, despite both having previously been extremely critical of Reform.

Haosnook · 15/01/2026 17:24

It's only a few months since Farage said he's always thought Jenrick a fraud.

I think the Cinservative party is finished, but good grief, the people Farage is surrounding himself with. Even he doesn't like (or trust) them.

And how will they manage to argue they're different when they're completely made up of the people who failed the country for 14 years?

And yet it seems so many of their supporters hang on regardless of what's said and done.

I did hear today that Farage's popularity rating is waning though.

carpetfluffs · 15/01/2026 17:27

Well he’s not wrong

that’s the intriguing bit!

TheAutumnCrow · 15/01/2026 17:30

Reform: the Party of failed government ministers and a former, handsomely pensioned MEP.

MayaPinion · 15/01/2026 17:32

Jenrick has always been a bit of a prick. Remember when he ordered the removal of cartoons from the wall of an asylum centre for unaccompanied child migrants because he thought they made the place ‘too welcoming’. Yes, he really is that much of a knobber. This defection to Reform is entirely in keeping with who he is.

Politicians are out for themselves a lot of the time. Doesn't really matter which side they are on.

He has probably judged he is unlikely to progress further in the Tory party and has decided to pursue alternate options instead.

LVhandbagsatdawn · 15/01/2026 17:42

It is really quite amusing. Reform was created because it was felt the Conservatives didn't go far enough and now it's stuffed to the gills with Conservative MPs.

Given the Tories appear to have lost their place on the stage as the opposition, I wonder if this is just them playing the long game and rebranding.

orangewasp · 15/01/2026 17:42

He's a self serving snake, like a lot of the defectors. No morals and can see which way the wind's blowing.

LizzieSiddal · 15/01/2026 17:45

Reform MPs are getting more and more odious aren’t they.
Imagine trying to control that lot, there’s going to be a fist fight at some point.

Haosnook · 15/01/2026 17:46

Aren't all these people defecting to Reform the reason the Tories became so unpopular Reform had a chance?

Happyjoe · 15/01/2026 17:47

That's been a constant theme of the cons, all of them blaming Labour for the mess of the country! It's incredible, the bare faced cheek of it, but sadly people still bloomin believe them!

Certainly a lot of talentless egos to clash. I bet they fight like girls too, thinking of Bridget Jones diary fight!

Yes I thought that too.

Although I imagine 30p Lee has almost certainly given someone a thump at some point.

Bringing to the party exactly the sort of competence they're looking for...

I have just been on the phone with a shadow cabinet minister who said "it’s like something from The Thick Of It" because, they claimed, Jenrick "left his resignation speech printed out and hanging around" and "someone got hold of it".

Yes, probably a woman too. He seems the sort...

HRTQueen · 15/01/2026 17:56

he is utterly vile

but he will appeal to many voters leaning towards Reform and if their popularity continues to rise they will in the very least by the opposition after the next election which is tragic

The Tories will come back but I am not sure it will be for some time and I think this may be a good move made by Badenoch. I hope it is as I would rather have a stronger Conservative party

This isn't good news for Labour either

Worse than that, he was found to have acted unlawfully over a planning application where £10 million of payments were avoided.

So Reform have accepted him alongside a man who tried to avoid paying more tax than Lester Pigott went to prison for.
