Am I having some kind of fever dream? Robert Jenrick

Am I having some kind of waking fever dream or was Robert Jenrick part of the Conservative governments he’s now busily accusing of failing Britain? It almost feels like gaslighting.

They'll all fall out, Tice, Lee, the new Tories. Also isn't Nigel meant to be difficult to work for?

Yes to this … and those ex-Tories eyeing up a leader role if Farage gets plotted against (which is bound to happen at some point). No matter their politics, I like a politician with actual conviction in what their party means, that sticks with it, none of these defectors has that, they just want to be in power. I don’t like Badenochs politics but I think she’s well rid and showed decisive leadership today.

Depends who you are.

Such as?

Pineneedlesincarpet · 15/01/2026 19:44

Not that I want to be a Nf defender. But on the two main issues he has built his political career on for 30 years (immigration and leaving the EU) he has been entirely consistent.

Leaving the EU has harmed us massively.
Immigration is not the devil he made it out to be.

So his 'issues' were bollocks tbh.

Pineneedlesincarpet · 15/01/2026 19:46

Because I am centre right. Conservatives and Reform are the only option.

But that's not a good reason is it? It should be based on what they've done. We judge them by their actions, no?

Im over 50. I voted in every election since I was 18. I know whether I'm right or left and what I want in a party.

I believe we should vote as women died for us to vote. I will vote. I will vote either Conservative (hopefully..if the policies in their manifesto are things that I agree with and that they aren't closet Lib Dems any more) or Reform.

I would never vote left. I'm not a socialist.

Thats perfectly reasonable. One person one vote. And if thats a "good reason" on my book then its a good reason for me to vote the way I want to. You can too.

bombastix · 15/01/2026 20:30

I am the last person to endorse Kemi Badenoch, but she had to sack him. Apparently they both had a meeting last week where she outlined the Conservative strategy until the next election, he took copious notes and then defected. In political terms you couldn’t really get worse

Gosh that's really bad. What a weasel.

I vote on what the parties have done. I could never vote tory right now because they've completely ruined the UK in a very short space of time. It's not about left or right for me, or socialism. It's about the record of the party and how they've helped us ordinary folk.

Ps, I am also over 50 and have voted every time.

We were discussing an interview with ZP.

A PP said he was good, as he believed what he said. My point was, agree or disagree with NF, hes consistently believed in the two main issues for 30 years. So he too believes what he says on those two issues.

Yes and this kind of currency will make it hard for the Conservatives if the perception is you can buy your way into well funded support from Reform. Others will do it.

The fundamentals still apply. You can see it clearly with Labour and their taxation policies.

A conservative (should) believe that you own your own money and the state decides how much to take in tax. The remainder is yours to spend as you chose. I like this approach. I will vote accordingly.

A socialist however believes that the state owns all the money you earn and the state choses how much you can keep of it and also what you can spend it on. I do not like this approach. I will not vote for a socialist party.

So its a personal choice. I think the way I think. You think the way you think. It doesn't matter to me how you vote. We are in a democracy and each have our own vote. We chose the party that best reflects mainly how we think of our own money and assets and the life we want for ourselves and our kids.

Shock That's hardcore!

bombastix · 15/01/2026 20:51

Well depends if you believe the “Robert Jenrick left his resignation speech on the desk” story. I am skeptical but it makes Badenoch look better.

He is a toad to do this to his colleagues

"Immigration is well proven to be a benefit"

Not all. Which is why its the number one issue in the UK.

The fact that it is the number one issue doesn't make it a bad thing. Immigration is well proven to be a benefit to the economy. Even then, net migration has dropped by about 66% since the labour party came to power, but is rarely mentioned. Boat crossings are a problem, however they are not a significant factor in overall migration numbers.

Just because the electorate who are stupid are talking about it, and believe it to be an issue doesn't make it one. They voted for Brexshit after all, and look at how the benefits of that have just rolled in. Not.

Izzard? One can only hope.

Nah, Izzard is very pro Eurpean. Toured various EU countries and did a set in their language. It’ll be some sort of Dennis Skinner type figure.

So what's a social democrat? ....Hint there is more in politics than conservative (free market economics variety that you're drawn to) and socialist (nearest we got was Corbyn). Regulated and managed capitalism is neither Ayn Rand style laissez-faire capitalism nor Cuba style socialism....

I listened to an interview with Polanski and really liked him. Came across really well, authentic, like he actually believed what he was saying. It was refreshing. I didn’t agree with him on everything but I see his appeal, he’s very electable.

He can also increase the size of your breasts with the power of his mind. I'm not sure he actually believed what he was saying when he claimed that. Maybe he is more authentic now he has moved from hypnosis into politics. I reckon he is still the a low grade charlatan though.

I thought that claim has been debunked. Immigration has lowered per capital GDP.

What do you disagree with regarding my original post?

paddleboardingmum · 15/01/2026 21:38

Jenrick is going to want a big role in Reform, it will be too many egos. And given what a backstabber he is how can they trust him. @Lobsterfreedom agreed yes, sooner or later one could plot against Farage.

My guess is Rees Mogg will head for Reform next .

FaceEatingLeopard · 15/01/2026 21:42

Ugh. He's such an unappealing little floater of a turd isn't he? Looks like he's permanently limp. A most unattractive specimen and probably has a very pink willy as well. Grin

This socialist believes that to be bollocks. That’s a definition of communism.
