Do you ever do it?

I have a couple of times and like it, but always feel a bit weird going in. Also-this is crazy, do you ever feel a bit scared on your own? Ive been in before when I was the only one in there, does that leave you vulnerable?

Planning to go tomorrow and sneak some treats in my bag from the shop, i’m thinking Revels or Minstrels and some Monster munch
What would you take?

I go on my own sometimes.

Minstrels are a good shout.

somanychristmaslights · 08/01/2026 20:46

I’ve not done it, but I wouldn’t feel afraid. It would be much more peaceful than when I go with my son 🤣

FionnulaTheCooler · 08/01/2026 20:47

I've done it once and it was fine, I didn't feel unsafe at all just irritated at two people who wouldn't shut the fuck up. If you don't want to watch the film don't bloody go, you're not on gogglebox and we don't need your running commentary.

Alloveragain44 · 08/01/2026 20:47

Love it and do it at least once a fortnight.

FettleOfKish · 08/01/2026 20:47

All the time, more often than with anyone else actually. It’s my little escape, a night out of the house when I was single, and now I leave DH at home with the toddler and watch something for a couple of hours without scrolling on my phone. Never felt vulnerable or scared. Never felt weird about it.

I’m a die hard pick & mix fan though so I don’t take my own sweets, I get them there (although pertinent to note that you don’t have to sneak these days, it’s perfectly fine to take your own in the majority of cinemas!).

roastedrapidly · 08/01/2026 20:47

I love going to the cinema on my own! One of my favourite treats!

Globules · 08/01/2026 20:48

I love going to the cinema alone.

Revels - you never know what you're gunna get.

What are you going to watch?

DappledThings · 08/01/2026 20:48

It is completely normal and unremarkable to go to the cinema on your own.

I find it weird how often this comes up as a question. I've never considered it any different to going for a coffee on my own or getting a train or loads of other normal things.

AddictedToTea · 08/01/2026 20:49

Going to the cinema by myself is one of my pure joys in life! I love it!

shellyleppard · 08/01/2026 20:50

I love going to the cinema by myself. No one asking for snacks or needing the loo all the time!!

NormasArse · 08/01/2026 20:50

I love going to the cinema alone! Ours has sofas and little tables. I go to the 10:30am showing, and get myself a latte and three warm chocolate chip biscuits (I save one for DH).

Bliss!

RumbleHoney · 08/01/2026 20:51

I often go alone on weekdays for the morning showing when it’s really quiet, I feel less conspicuous? I’m not sure I would go on a Friday or Saturday evening when almost everyone is in couples or groups.

readingmakesmehappy · 08/01/2026 20:51

I adore going on my own.

I was thinking The Housemaid? We have a 7 year old so only normally go with her as wouldn’t pay for a babysitter for the cinema, everyone else at work etc

PruesEarrings · 08/01/2026 20:52

I love doing this and would take Revels.

KabukiNoh · 08/01/2026 20:53

Revels can get to fuck. Minstrels were made for the cinema. There’s no other time I eat them. And obviously go by yourself, mainly cos you get all the minstrels.

WhineAndWine1 · 08/01/2026 20:53

Yes I would go on my own and I would go on a Friday or Saturday as well. I don’t understand this fear of being by yourself

Fupoffyagrasshole · 08/01/2026 20:53

I go alone weekly at least ! It’s my escape from toddler bed time and down time

my husband got me a membership for the Everyman cinemas for Christmas so I get lots of free and discounted tickets

Redflagsabounded · 08/01/2026 20:55

I do it loads. I avoid Fri and Sat evenings as there's mainly couples, but there's always plenty of solo flyers at other times. It's only noticeable when I book and pick a seat, my cinema has seats in pairs and you can see lots of one person bookings. In the cinema it's really not noticeable.

I always sneak in a small Pepsi bottle and a pack of chocs, often Minstrels or Maltesers. Big pockets in my coat 😁

grapestar · 08/01/2026 20:56

I went alone yesterday to watch the housemaid. I took a bag of popcorn from the M&S next door to the cinema. There were 4 other people, it was fabulous.

lap90 · 08/01/2026 21:00

I go nearly every week on my own as i have a cinema pass and it’s just easier to pop to the cinema on my way home from work than plan with others.

Many other people on their own too - never been the only one in a screening though.

yep, minstrels and malteasers are good.

MildlyAnnoyed · 08/01/2026 21:01

I’ve been by myself a few times when I had sky cinema & got the free tickets monthly. I’d go on a Sunday afternoon & time it so I would pick up the children from their dads afterwards. I’d usually go with minstrels or malteasers for treats.

HoLeeFuk · 08/01/2026 21:02

I do it all the time because none of my local friends like horror and that's my thing. I've never felt weird or vulnerable.

Chickenssss · 08/01/2026 21:04

I could never go to the cinema alone. Unpopular opinion I know.

How was the film? Worth seeing?
