Do you ever do it?

I have a couple of times and like it, but always feel a bit weird going in. Also-this is crazy, do you ever feel a bit scared on your own? Ive been in before when I was the only one in there, does that leave you vulnerable?

Planning to go tomorrow and sneak some treats in my bag from the shop, i’m thinking Revels or Minstrels and some Monster munch
What would you take?

I go 2 or 3 times a week as I have an Unlimited membership. Always around midday though as it takes me an hour to walk there and I dont like coming back in the dark!
My snack of choice is a meal deal as I take my lunch in with me!😁

Been going on my own since a teenager and a couple of times I have scored an empty screening (its the best!).

You’re so lucky ❤️ do you work

It was ok, but quite a few people..who al decide to sit pretty close nearby 😩was after a bit of space

Some people are strange - when me and Mum saw 'The Housemaid' it was in a massive screen with plenty of space and one man on his own came and sat next to her 😂Why would you book that seat??

I know!

I was glad there were some other people as would freak me out all alone, but a few other people-mum & daughter, family of four friends etc, literally sat down three/four seats away from me, the whole cinema was empty! So we were all in the same area

MsOtisReflects · 24/01/2026 14:24

They probably assumed you’d picked the best seat, so anything close to you would be a good option. 😄

(The solo men who do that might be a different matter.)

Did you have to choose a seat when you booked OP? I find that the Cineworld app at least often suggests a seat close to people that have already booked. I always move it before confirming but presumably some people just take what they’re given.

Well done for going anyway! Top tips always check the runtime, and add circa 30 minutes for the pre-show ads.

I’m off to the theatre alone tonight as nobody fancies the same show, and again in London next month when I’m there for work. Can’t wait.

MsOtisReflects · 24/01/2026 14:30

I’m never going to love a cinema as much as being at the theatre, but any kind of auditorium feels like home to me, and since I’ve started going to see films more often I do feel slightly homesick if I haven’t been for a couple of weeks.

And this is the first year this century when I’ve actually felt vaguely invested in the Oscar nominations. Or been able to compare several current films in conversations. If I had to wait for people to go to the cinema with I’d have missed out on all that.

AgnesMcDoo · 24/01/2026 14:30

I’m go to the cinema and theatre alone frequently.

go with minstrels.

don’t take monster munch. They stink and it’s unpleasant for others sitting near you

Fireonbutfrozen · 24/01/2026 14:31

I took Whispa bites, a coke and cheese and onion rolls

The best seats are in the centre, so it's normal to find people clustered around there

LakieLady · 24/01/2026 15:02

Alloveragain44 · 08/01/2026 20:47

Love it and do it at least once a fortnight.

I don't do it that often, but I really enjoy it when I do.

We have a lovely independent cinema that also has a bar and serves nice food. You can take a bottle of wine in with you if you fancy it!

I agree with this. Especially when the cinema is small.

You’re so lucky ❤️ do you work

Im lucky enough to only have to work 2 nightshifts a week. So I love to go to the cinema on my days off (plus it gets me about 12k steps so has fitness benefits too!).

Sometimes when I book online it will bug out and refuse to let me book a seat on its own, only next to another person.
Although when that happens I just check the seating when I get there and move to an empty one!

brunettemic · 24/01/2026 17:50

I’ve done it a few times, first time was abroad actually. It would never even cross my mind to be scared?!
As for snacks, just take whatever you want, you don’t need to sneak it in.

WonderingAndOverthinking · 24/01/2026 18:08

I used to do it regularly pre-kids. Loved it. Never get the chance now, enjoy it!

Fupoffyagrasshole · 24/01/2026 18:48

I went to a 1015 showing of the roses on my birthday - I took the day off work and ran To the Everyman cinema straight from school drop off 😬 had the screen to myself it was bliss

SENcatsandfish · 24/01/2026 18:50

I do it, actually im planning on going again next week. Ive always figured that even when you go with someone youre basically just sat next to them ignoring them watching the film.

My local cinema are great, I often go when the nacho cheese sauce isnt quite ready so they let me know what time it will be ready and I nip back out for it. They are also quite happy for me to be wearing socks when I nip out. Nor do they bat an eyelid at me buying a hotdog, nachos, picknmix and a slushie to myself 🤣.

I love a solo cinema trip

Oh really? I'm so awkward I fear if a booking made me do that I just wouldn't go 😂

I'd do the same but I guess some people are funny about sitting in 'their' seat. Got a long-haul plane home a couple of years ago, sat in between my friends with one friend in front of us by the window. One guy was seat in the middle seat and the aisle seat was empty. I would've moved over to the aisle seat to give us both room but he stayed in the middle 😅

cantthinkofagoodusername1 · 24/01/2026 21:05

Yep, and I also go to restaurants on my own. I have friends and a husband, but I travel a bit and like to eat at nice places when I’m away, so I think nothing of going on my own. Same with the cinema.

You are my nightmare ‘public at the cinema’. 😂

Luckily my local Picturehouse does not sell hot smelly crunchy food for people to be walking in and out to collect. There is an Everyman not far away for those that like that.

MsOtisReflects · 25/01/2026 11:24

I would frequent my local, very cute Picturehouse if it possessed anything close to acceptable loos. As it doesn’t I swerve it, even though it’s in my favourite area of town.

The Curzon is at the top of a shopping centre, surrounded by cocktail bars and restaurants, so involves a fair bit of resisting temptation. It features a bar and restaurant- and they’ll bring snacks or pizza or whatever to your seat during the film. Which I’m not entirely certain is correct form - but what can you do?

Fireonbutfrozen · 24/01/2026 11:42

So I finally got to go on my own yesterday, but had to leave before it ended to pick up my Dd from school 😩 It was The Housemaid and I didn’t realise it was 2 hrs 15 mins, assumed it was 90 minutes…so I probably missed the most exciting part!

You did. It has quite the twist (I read the book :))

*Spoiler alert

So I got to maybe 30 minutes to go-so I saw what I assumed was the twist-he was the baddie? Then I saw her being able to get him in the room and shut the door, were there more twists than this?

OP posts:
henlake7 · 29/01/2026 20:35

That pretty much was the twist but it would really annoy me personally to walk out before the end of a film!😁
I actually went to see The Housemaid this afternoon, good film. Went on my own and had the whole screening to myself.
I love a personal screening....that's the dream!😅
