Yes its hyperbole in the live.

See post above, opening hours are 10pm.

Honeslty, nothing would shock me. I've been sworn at because we ran out of a particular pasta salad. Hopefully the lidl staff got to go home early.

They normally shut at 10, was relying on it, turned up at 9.30 as were loads of people who then, like us, had to exit the car park!!

They would have shut the doors to anymore people coming in at 9pm. When it's that busy with Christmas shopppers it can take up to an hour to get people in there already though the checkouts. They do the make your way to the checkouts announcement half hour before instead of 10 minutes before. Staff have to get home to their own families it's their Christmas as well. Don't turn up half hour before expected closing time and expect to allowed in to shop.

XWKD · 23/12/2025 23:14

My local supermarket is open until 2 a.m.

I don't think I'd fancy working those hours.

suburberphobe · 23/12/2025 22:22

That's on you for not organising your shopping times.

FFS, shops are open all day every day.

Get a diary and time your days and evenings to organise your life. It's not hard.

Quite

I nearly fell out of bed this morning when I checked the opening times of my local M&S and saw 5am to 11pm. Absolutely awful for shop workers. Good on Lidl.

Lidl are usually quite good for this and often close for Boxing Day.

I live somewhere where shops aren’t open on a Sunday. YABU.

Well I live somewhere without the internet so count yourself lucky!

😂😂

You literally had all day?

You do realise some people work, don’t you? Not everyone lives off their husband

I think the ladies that lunch are up at this time of night, there seems to be no concept of anyone else working!!

Probably thinking something along the lines of "shops don't run themselves and we don't want to work late into the night for no good reason", I suspect.

rightleftbabysteps · 23/12/2025 22:47

And they probably opened at 6am! What on earth has stopped you from shopping in the weeks leading up to Christmas? Those poor retail staff deserve a break.

What on earth has stopped you from shopping in the weeks leading up to Christmas?

The reasonable expectation that shops will be open for their normal hours until Christmas Eve, like they always are.

pizzaHeart · 23/12/2025 23:23

Our Lidl closes at 10pm on Tuesdays. It wouldn’t occurred to me to check its hours today if I was going, it’s not Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or Boxing Day. I do check independent shops/ restaurants before going as they often close for the longer holidays but not places like Lidl, Aldi, Next, Tesco, Marks and Spencer etc etc. Ime they open for longer on 23d.
Maybe something happened?

Bu the way DD’s favourite cafe was supposed to be opened until 4pm (I checked online)
We arrived at 3.30 pm and it was closed. I could see that cleaning was already finished and owner was getting her things.
It’s not our day today OP. ☹️

HelpMeGetThrough · 23/12/2025 23:24

Probably restocking as the greedy “two trolley” bastards emptied the shop.

No. I think we need to both log it to 101 and probably be featured in Take a Break or something.

Seems like it. I can’t work at the moment because I’m severely disabled but I’m fully aware most other people work hard for a living and I used to myself. I grew up with both my parents working full time (my dad had two jobs) but some people like you say, have no concept of grafting and/or shift work.

Retailrookie · 23/12/2025 23:26

I wonder if you were one of the many people who rocked up at 8am Sunday and expected us to break the law and sell them cheap veg before we're legally allowed to open.

GroundControlToMajorTomCat · 23/12/2025 23:27

How dare they! How dare those employees get a wee bit of time off to get ready for Christmas! I mean what if I need to get my off-brand Heinz beans and Bradbury’s Chocolate Milk at 11:39pm?

Oh am I?

Hold on, let me add that to the list

Expects to be open on Christmas day
Hates shop workers because they're durty
Been sitting around all day not doing anything
Been sitting around for weeks, didnt even realise it was Christmas coming up
Breaking the law over contraband Sunday brussel sprouts
Boring (probably the worst crime)

I'll update as we go along

Our Lidl shuts at 8pm.

Perhaps staff sickness was very high and holidays booked. So they made the decision to close.

Try the off licence?

WimbyAce · 23/12/2025 23:33

Just checked ours and it said it was open til 10 as usual. I think you've been had OP!

Yes, they have probably shut for Christmas Eve & Boxing Day as well. Head office won’t be fussed about all the staff taking holiday and will definitely have authorised all of it during a key sales period….
