Just that really.

I mean what are they thinking?

We have our Christmas shopping, we did that Saturday, not sure why people are automatically assuming its a 'big Christmas shop' and 'not organised and deserve chaos

Because common sense won’t stop a pile on!

Oh thats true.

So far I have no christmas food, have sat around for 14 hours today waiting for 9.30 to go shopping for the big shop and think shop workers are dirty!!

I'll see what else Im guilty of later

My local Lidls usually shuts at 10pm so I would expect it to be open. @soupyspoon posters will just rip you apart though.

Most people would expect holiday week hours to potentially change so would check in advance. We have three big Tescos in my city - they all have different opening hours.

23doorsdown · 23/12/2025 22:58

You have ruined Christmas for everyone!!!! 😆

Starseeking · 23/12/2025 22:59

Do you expect them to open all night?!?

Winterburn · 23/12/2025 23:01

We popped to ours just after 8pm, then to aldi because they didn’t have everything we wanted. Just stuff for tea, not a “Christmas shop”. It’s just a normal day and we needed some food! I so cba with Christmas.

According to Lidl's own website, the hours should be normal today(10pm close), as you’d expect. It’s just Tuesday 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well its worse than that, apparently I expect them to open Christmas day as well.

And give me free food I think.

@Arlanymor If a supermarket was open until 10pm last Tuesday and the Tuesday before that I wouldn’t expect it to close earlier than normal on a normal working day in the run up to Christmas. Extended hours are normally the norm pre Christmas not shorter.

I nearly fell out of bed this morning when I checked the opening times of my local M&S and saw 5am to 11pm. Absolutely awful for shop workers. Good on Lidl.

M&S have loads of teenagers working over Christmas who choose to work late shifts, it suits some people, Including my DS 🤷
Plenty people work all sorts of hours and cannot get to the shops earlier. Our supermarkets are open until 10pm, I did my shopping at 9pm tonight and it was a dream, super quiet, no queues. But then I don't do 'a big shop' , I prefer a few smaller shops (in the late evening), less waste, and I'm 2 minutes from the shops.

If you’ve left it until 9pm on the 23rd, you deserve the chaos to be honest.

Deserve chaos 🤣. See above, no chaos

grinchmcgrinchface · 23/12/2025 23:02

You literally had all day?

CoastalCalm · 23/12/2025 23:02

We went at 7.30 and it was decimated stock wise so not surprised if the shut earlier too

23doorsdown · 23/12/2025 23:02

Yes, it’s a normal shopping day but again posters keen to berate the OP will ignore that.

23doorsdown · 23/12/2025 23:05

The OP could even be one of those poor retail workers who had to shop after work or maybe they don’t do shopping 🤔

Probably thinking that their staff are not the lazy ones at this point.

God bless the retail workers at this time of year.

I live somewhere where shops aren’t open on a Sunday. YABU.

CatFaceCatFace · 23/12/2025 23:07

Outraged seems a bit over the top. It's mild inconvenience, I'm sure they didnt do it deliberately to spite you. Have you checked their opening hours online?

Yes its hyperbole in the live.

See post above, opening hours are 10pm.

Exactly!!!

Im clearly very unreasonable.

Well I'm glad you've answered your own question then!

dinglethedragon · 23/12/2025 23:10

I was horrified to find I had run out of garlic granules at 4:30 today, confidently went to the cupboard for the new full box.... nope. So had to brave the shops. It was all I needed as have already done "the shop" - was sure I would hit the christmas crush - but not at all, went to my local Morrisons - it was no busier than normal.

whizzed round, of course found a few more things to put in the basket - and no queue for the checkout.

I then saw they are open until MIDNIGHT tonight. Blimey.

Arlanymor · 23/12/2025 22:32

They were probably thinking that they have to restock. They were probably thinking that their staff have had a mad week with another big day to follow tomorrow. They probably advertised their opening times well in advance.

This.

Yeah, frustrating when opening hours do not match expectation.

But; It's 9+pm. I doubt the decision was made lightly, and the room needs to be read.

Worst case scenario. You really need sprouts, Tesco is open until; midnight, for the real desperate f**kers.
