The racism on the Huntingdon train threads is appaling

Just as the title says. The blatant racism and jumping to conclusions on the threads has been terrible. Mumsnet used to be a more informed intelligent place.

At least you know who they are. Ready to jump in with a nasty agenda with no facts and list on with their theories on a hideous incident.

Bagsintheboot · 02/11/2025 18:51

I reported so many posts. I can't believe MN allowed the threads to stand. They were / are festivals of misinformation, racism, Islamophobia, and general hatred against immigrants.

Not to mention the rampant speculation is directly against police requests and generally against site rules.

Igotjelly · 02/11/2025 18:52

It’s absolutely disgusting and MNHQ should be ashamed of themselves for letting it stand!

atinydropofcherrysherry · 02/11/2025 18:52

racism - the favourite word of so many people

CloudPop · 02/11/2025 18:52

Have you seen the one where they are discussing what sprays (pepper, Deep
Heat) should be carried as the government is no longer caring for us

Not only the racism but the glee that it might be a migrant that did it and absolutely no concern for the victims and their families.
The attitude is not even shocking any more.

Do you mean it’s terrible to discuss this?

Yes. What kind of protection or assurances do they want the government to provide?

StewkeyBlue · 02/11/2025 18:55

I agree OP.

Rushing to speculate and prop up prejudices and assumptions. People picking apart Britishness sounding like Nazis trying to define Aryan, etc.

Well yes exactly. Those speculating, going on about Muslims and immigrants with absolutely NO basis should sit down and shut up.

This.
I read the thread after hearing the man was British born and watched in horror as it turned from "boat people" to "it doesn't matter how many generations they live here, they are not British".
I wonder if we could have a week of boycotting Mumsnet, a "racists only" week, then maybe we'd get some more moderation.

Those poor victims, it must have been awful on that train.

That's it in a nutshell.
Hoping it was something to fit in with their agenda.
Not that it makes it any better for those involved I'm glad it wasn't terror related as it seems if one attack is successful others follow.

What appals me is that people were attacked (not murdered, thank god) just yesterday and people were immediately speculating , pointing fingers etc on some sort of damage rampage against the government, immigrants and POC. So with respect… you sit down.

I saw a post from Nigel on Facebook this morning, couple of hours before the announcement was made and he called for the names and backgrounds of those involved to be released. Reading between the lines, it was obviously to do with race because scrolling through the hundreds of comments from his supporters were statements to ‘stop them coming over here, memes of small boats, calling for him to sort this country out and how we will never be safe until they’re all gone’ - it’s people like him, in power, who stir up the hatred. Once the details have been released, more comments on ‘if a dog is born in a stable, it doesn’t make him a horse’ started pouring in. It’s such a horrific society we live in right now.

Is that all you care about? People's choice of words and language at this point in time? Leave it well alone. Let the dust settle first.

I am sat down and I'm praying for the families.

Has anyone died - genuine question as if they have that’s awful but I’ve missed it.

Like it or not the aftermath of these sorts of event, regardless of motive, makes the lives of people of colour virtually unbearable.

The asylum status of the ‘perps’ (crass much?) Is frankly irrelevant. Wonder how many people would care if the victims happened to be from an asylum background. Guess they’d just have been ‘asking for it’

Just to be factual no one died. It doesnt mean it wasnt terrible.

Telling people to 'sut down and shut up' rather proves the point.

Is all you care about falsely blaming immigrants and Muslims?

Let the dust settle, let the police do their job. Jumping to racist conclusions doesn't help anyone.

bombastix · 02/11/2025 19:03

No one has died, thank goodness. Words and facts do matter. Let’s try to be accurate, and note when others try to rush us to judgment without them. There was plenty of that last night on here.

Surely that’s exactly the point. Using the events to try and stir more division, fear and hatred, as all the threads have people doing, is obscene.

You’ve also said people were murdered which, at this point, is factually incorrect.

CorneliaCupp · 02/11/2025 19:04

Completely agree op. I have been here for years and have never seen anything like the last few weeks! All reason has gone out of the window, no sober analysis of the facts, just anger and racism. So shocking.

Greycheck · 02/11/2025 19:07

It indeed was another violent crime carried out by the usual suspects. The usual suspects being men. Idiotic talk of colour, immigration status, nationality, religion is all to avoid tackling and talking about the real issue of male violence. That is the consistent common denominator.

Do you think it’s necessary? Is one horrific incidence enough to be a call to arms ?
