What’s your prediction of the next cause the ‘activists’ are going to move into, after Gaza?

Dangeos · 18/10/2025 17:56

Seems like they’re getting bored of Palestine now that it’s a bit awkward talking about Hamas killing Palestinians in the streets.

so what do we think the next big cause is that they’re going to move onto? Do we think they'll finally bother to start talking about the awful crisis in Sudan? Or is there a trendier topic emerging?

OP posts:
OonaStubbs · 21/10/2025 00:05

They'll keep banging on about Gaza as the ceasefire won't last for too long. Hamas will break it, Israel will retaliate and we'll get all the wailing and gnashing of teeth at those horrible Je... ahem, "Israelis" once again.

Allinarow48 · 21/10/2025 00:47

The Islamic State

Sorry, I thought you were agreeing with this post. Thanks

I agree with your comments about protesting for digital I’D. The OP asked what the next cause would be. Not what we thought the next cause should be.

The pro hamas protests were mostly attended by those who go with the latest fashion rather than deeper beliefs. We can all agree that a ceasefire is a good thing,

I think pro digital ID and support for net zero will be the next fashionable causes.

Let's face it the majority of the British people are heartily sick of protests against Israel interminably filling up our British streets. The protests now just seen to be a way of working up Jew hate and the Jewish community have felt their pleas for these things to stop unheard even after the horrendous events in Manchester.

There is a ceasefire now so let's support it and the efforts of the US et. al. by piping down a bit.

The protesters could all just go the pub?

sabababa · 21/10/2025 07:31

Yes, but what will unite the Muslim world now?
And nothing is as romantic as the Palestinian struggle agaisnt colonialism, imperialism and oppression (but limited only to that where Israel is involved) for the far left (because we all know Jews zionists are rich capitalist shylocks and control the world as per the protocols of the elders of zion)

They'll probably just stick to Gaza for a while longer, it's the current omnicause fixation. I'll tell you one thing they'll never protest in favour of if the rabble I had the misfortune to be caught up in have any say - more soap.

In all seriousness though, I feel a shudder of revulsion every time someone says genocide about what was a fairly minor war with a relatively low number of deaths. It's so offensive and trivialises actual genocides that are going on now. But then there are an awful lot of words being used as the complete opposite of what they mean. Like peaceful for the hate marches, or anti-racist.

I and the OP can see why people would protest against digital ID. What is the rationale behind thinking people will protest for it? Why would they need to when its government policy?Confused

It is genocide. I can't believe you are denying genocide because Israel are responsible.🤯

Dear me! I couldn't give a toss about Israel or any middle eastern politics beyond women's rights in Afghanistan etc. I do care about facts though. An independent committee who says eg a fertility clinic in the bombing zone means Israel committed genocide by restricted births is just sheer nonsense. It really is. And of course people are scared and unhappy and at risk during wartime, it's terrible but that's not genocide either. The same would apply to Palestine's actions and with credible evidence but I guarantee they'd be up in arms if there was a committee for it. I can't really believe I'm having to argue this.

For someone who couldn't give a toss about Israel or any middle eastern politics beyond women's rights in Afghanistan you post a fair bit on this forum denying the genocide in Gaza and complaining about Mnet not deleting the posts where it's discussed.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 21/10/2025 13:32

Have you done an AS? That's a bit sad really. I'm a very dporadic poster and I tend to hop on threads that are in active, I don't think I actually post that often on the bear pit that's AIBU, should I start? But then I'd fall foul of the AIBU police like I just have. I posted on this AIBU thread because of the thread title, I have a personal reason to despise the hate mobs.

Although I've seen the usual suspects on Church Street in town waving little placards saying there's a genocide going back years, maybe decades. So the accusations ring as hollow now as they do then.

And others, such as the UK Govt, have found that it's not genocide

it's funny because I remember when the Tamil genocide was going on in Sri Lanka and these poor desparate Tamils were stopping the traffic in London. But don't remember any of the left or the Muslim community marching against Sri Lanka or boycotting Sri Lanka.

More recently, Myanmar committed gencoide against the Muslim Rohingya but didn't see any Muslim extremists bombing Buddhist temples.

And if we use the more liberal definition of gencoide, where are the marches against the UAE which is funding the genocide in Sudan? Where are the boycotts of Chinese goods for the genocide of the UIghurs? Where are the flags of DRC to protest the genocide there? Why is no one protecting the genocide and forced displacement of Armenians of Ngorno Karabach?

Personally, I think this obsession with calling it genocide is all to do with holocaust guilt. You want to minimize the holocaust because you feel guilty you let it happen (in Brtiain's case, yeah, you took some Jews from Germany but only kids because they wouldn't be so....Jewish - you left the parents to die, you didn't bomb to train lines to Auchwitz because it wasn't a military target etc etc but still better than the oh so holy Irish who sided with the Nazis)

What are you on about?!

I don't think you get to decide what constitutes a genocide or not, unless perhaps you head up the ICJ?

A high number of expert scholars in genocide believe it constitutes one based on the legal definition. But you apparently know best 🤔

Let's see what the court says in January shall we.

Ionlymakejokestodistractmyself · 21/10/2025 13:46

They ALWAYS have used holocaust terminology to describe the Palestinian situation. It's entirely intetional.

Before 7/10, Gaza was apparently the Warsaw Ghetto or an open air concentration camp which we now see is completely false.

Israelis are zioNAZIS who are of AshkeNAZI origin

Zionism is a white superemacist movement (i.e Nazism)

If it is genocide by applying some broad definition, then there are many active genocides but somehow one genocide is the only one that seems to count.

Wordsmithery · 21/10/2025 14:08

By 'activists' I presume you mean people who care.

Did you ask the posters claiming there's definitely 100% a genocide if they head the ICJ or is it just anyone who disagrees with you?

I find it very, very hard to believe they actually care.

TomeTome · 21/10/2025 14:15

Well I would imagine there will be more focus on Israeli war criminals and reparations and supporting the rebuilding of Palestine. There will have to be remedial education and therapy for Israeli perpetrators and their society because people who have witnessed and participated in horror will be damaged. So the focus will lift from “Gaza” in that presumably the bombing will be stopped, and move on to building anew. If that can be achieved then I think the same can be achieved elsewhere.

You must have had to go through a lot of FWR posts. Good job I don't post on books as often as I lurk on the threads there. Bit weird to AS someone for the heinous crime of not agreeing with you but it is 2025 I suppose

I didnt have to go through anything, just searched your username and "genocide".🤷‍♀️. Weird for you to pretend you couldn't give a toss about Israel or any middle eastern politics beyond women's rights in Afghanistan when your posting history says otherwise.
