Fucking flags

I know this has probably been done to death on here and there will be lots of threads about it already but I cant be bothered to trawl through the site for them so here I am.

I’m so irritated by the England flags popping up everywhere. There has been an influx put up in my area over the last week, it seems to be increasing by the day. I don’t hate the flag, but I hate the fact it is being used to send a clear message by racists. People aren’t doing it to be patriotic they are doing it to be hateful towards those that they don’t feel ‘belong’ in their country.

I don’t want to see all of these flags in my area. If people are entitled to put them up then why am I not entitled to go and cut the fuckers down? And don’t get me started on the spray painting of public roundabouts and road signage by people who allegedly love their country so much that they are vandalising it at the expense of public money.

If I see one more person give a ‘big well done to whoever has erected the flags on xyz street’ on Facebook I will explode. Does anyone else feel ragey over it?

Your irritation only feeds the monster I'm afraid.

Wynter25 · 09/09/2025 15:01

Nope. Love seeing the flags :)

MyFavouritePlace · 09/09/2025 15:04

They sort of scares me as a child of immigrants. I was born here and sort of pass as white but I still feel it's aimed at me and my family too 😞

Why?

Proud to be born in England. Makes me happy seeing them :) why shouldn't they be every here. Other countries have them up 🤷‍♀️

A1984 · 09/09/2025 15:08

I hate them too. They make me sad and scared. We are Jewish and my mum's family escaped Hitler two generations ago. I strongly object to the use of the flag of a country I love to signal racist values and populist victim blaming that to me are the opposite of what we're meant to stand for.

Eloeeze · 09/09/2025 15:11

Some people like em, some people don’t. Hey ho.
What else is new to clutch pearls over and get anxiety about?

WhereIsMyJumper · 09/09/2025 15:11

I think they look quite jolly.
I haven’t seen any evidence anywhere of them being put up by racists.

Butchyrestingface · 09/09/2025 15:11

I'm in Scotland. Think I'm safe.

If I were to see a St George's Cross flying here, I'd think some poor bastard had a death wish but didn't have the funds to shout a flight to Dignitas.

I don't think you've quite grasped the wider picture which kind of makes you look a bit foolish.

mummabubs · 09/09/2025 15:14

It's so depressing. I thought in Wales we were a little safer (saw a million flags driving around South of England last week) but in the last week I've noticed the Welsh flag popping up on every flyover as well. Agree that it's not about patriotism, it's about spreading fear and xenophobia.

(Also as a side but this also irritates me, why are they being hung in twos on the same side of the road, so not even like one facing each direction? Least of the issues but it adds to how much they bug me!)

CaroleLandis · 09/09/2025 15:16

The flags are wonderful. We need to take pride in our country just as other countries do.

I now live in Wales and the Welsh have always displayed their flag with pride, it’s about time the English expressed their patriotism and I love it .

People keep saying this but which countries have flags tied to lamp posts with cable ties or hanging out of their windows?

I think it's deliberately disingenuous, TBH. I don't believe for a second that poster isn't aware of the wider context

Me too!
but I’ve learnt to my cost to not engage with the willy waving flag bearing numpties in my local FB sites.
I’ve been told I’m unpatriotic, I hate our country and I’m a leftie c**t.
im now going by my mothers mantra that you just can’t argue with stupid

What wider context? Do you think you can answer before I run and grab my much used bingo card?

Always seen the flag outside people's windows 🤷‍♀️ nothing wrong tied on the lamp post either.

@Wynter25- other nations don’t have a history of them being linked with nefarious individuals in the same way. The National Front, football thugs, fascists, racists etc etc

Catpiece · 09/09/2025 15:20

The flags are being put up as a statement. It all started the same time as the flare ups of trouble regarding the hotels housing asylum seekers. It’s to intimidate.
