Just read this awful story in the Guardian. Awful and makes me feel so angry and so unsafe as a half Black woman.

I think a lot of people have become a lot less tolerant of others. I think too many believe dangerous narratives about anyone who isn’t white British.

Hiiufjn · 20/08/2025 18:19

That's horrific.
Racism is definitely getting far worse in this country and it's really worrying.
You only have to look at the increase in racist comments on Mumsnet to see how much worse it is getting

Evaka · 20/08/2025 18:19

Yeah, a lot of ugly views being freely expressed out there. I don't blame you for feeling uneasy OP. Racism is becoming more and more mainstream.

MiloMinderbinder925 · 20/08/2025 18:22

I'm really sorry to hear how the rise in the far right and racist rhetoric is affecting you. Racism is dehumanising and many people seem to forget that the "filthy migrants" they are demanding "go home" are human beings.

Please remember that the vast majority are decent people who are just as appalled by this attack on basic decency.

Much love to you and yours 💜

Ablondiebutagoody · 20/08/2025 18:24

I think that you are right. People are getting very twitchy about illegal immigrants hanging around play areas etc. and innocent guys like this playing with family end up caught in the crossfire.

frozendaisy · 20/08/2025 18:25

There are studies out that the rise in extremism online is from a very small number of vocal accounts.

The vast, vast, vast majority of people in the UK love the multicultural land we all call home.
Yes there are pockets of evil tossers, and yes it seems that society has made it more permissible apparently to be able to spout poison with no consequences.

The racism was always there it is just, at the moment, allowed out of the box, but we will get it shut back in somehow.

MeDadMeDad · 20/08/2025 18:25

I was a patient in hospital this week. I'm a white woman. A white receptionist snapped at me.
Also a white staff member snapped at a black man, when he was enquiring about the wait.
People are less tolerant, white to white, white to black etc...
I also went to the chemist today and the black chemist assistant snapped at me. Maybe they were having a bad day.
I do have a black friend and she says racism is getting worse.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 20/08/2025 18:46

Yanbu at all

FrippEnos · 20/08/2025 18:50

As has been posted, people are a lot less tolerant of others.
The government ignoring issues isn't helping.
And Frankly it has become very easy for people to accuse lone men in parks and other areas of being a paedophile (it happens on here fairly regularly).

Robinson and his ilk are milking these two things for all there worth.

Which illegal immigrants are "hanging round play areas"?
Do you mean people who aren't white are (shock horror) daring to go to the park?

dizzydizzydizzy · 20/08/2025 19:00

Agreed. In almost every question or discussion on social media, somebody comes along and links it to migrants arriving on small boats. (Eg Can I get any benefits? Yes if you go to France and sail back to the UK on a small boat). I took an absolute beating on another thread on here because I said asylum seekers were vulnerable and had other problems like poor mental health. I probably should have reported many of the comments.

Honestly it is the oldest story in the book. A lot of people are struggling and they want a scapegoat, so it's just so easy to blame anyone who is obviously different.

I'd like to know what magical sixth sense these people have that enables them ti know instinctively that someone with brown skin is here illegally.

A colleague of Afro-Caribbean heritage was told to "fuck off back to her own country" not long ago.

She's third generation British, and has never been south of the Med.

Porkychops · 20/08/2025 19:02

Having just driven to work through an avenue of England falls, I agree. Feel depressed, we are going back to the days of the National Front it seems

This isn't at all the same as a black man being accused of paedophilia because he's out playing with his white grandchildren. Please don't minimise.

PrincessC0nsuelaBananaHammock · 20/08/2025 19:05

FFS! These dickheads conveniently forget the worst paedophile in British history was fucking white!

hattie43 · 20/08/2025 19:05

I blame the media . Without it nothing would be whipped up into a frenzy . Having said that I live in a nice middle class area with very few ethnic minorities or asylum seekers so don’t see or understand the issues .

I’m not so sure that’s the case. You only have to look at house prices and demand in areas that are less diverse.

Osmosisfreight · 20/08/2025 19:07

There’s always been racism of course, but I feel like people are not scared to be openly racist anymore, it’s like they are proud to admit it! It really saddens me

Like London? The most expensive area in the UK and most diverse.

Coffeeishot · 20/08/2025 19:10

That is horrific, that poor man people like Tommy Robinson shouldn't be .allowed the Internet. .

Yes I think the country is becoming more racist it is frightening,

PandoraSocks · 20/08/2025 19:11

YANBU. All the racists are emboldened.

Gilead · 20/08/2025 19:11

Dd is being called ‘paki’ again. I’m asked if I’m Asian again, we’re re of Spanish descent.

rubicustellitall · 20/08/2025 19:13

Its only going to get worse I fear

I used to live in one of the most diverse areas in the UK. The two bed flat I bought there is now worth nearly half a million.

TrixieFatell · 20/08/2025 19:15

I think there has always been racism, it's just people feel they can be more vocal now. I've deleted several family friends from my social media because their views were awful. I never delete people with different opinions as I don't agree with echo chambers but their posts were really upsetting.
