Just read this awful story in the Guardian. Awful and makes me feel so angry and so unsafe as a half Black woman.

FFS! These dickheads conveniently forget the worst paedophile in British history was fucking white!

Sponsored by the marathon and the BBC

There’s always been racism of course, but I feel like people are not scared to be openly racist anymore, it’s like they are proud to admit it! It really saddens me

Totally agree.

Like London? The most expensive area in the UK and most diverse.

There isn’t net migration of white people into London.

The point I was making is that net migration of white people is away from diverse areas in cities and out towards less diverse smaller towns and semi rural areas which have seen far higher property price increases than cities have.

PandoraSocks · 20/08/2025 19:17

You only have to look on MN to see how people now feel able to be openly racist. But anyone who points that out gets a pile on.

Unfortunately the media are promoting racism. Even the BBC News quotes Farrage every time he speaks. If you happen to catch GB News it is shocking how many times they mention “White British” as if that’s the pinnacle of GOOD.
My sisters are both married to British (not white) people and they are absolutely petrified for their families at the moment and dare not think about what life may be like if Reform gets in.

frozendaisy · 20/08/2025 19:19

If we had been swilling around our just pale pasty selves our music would be dreadful and the food dire.

Do all these racists enjoy a bit of funk/blues/rap and a takeaway curry? Or are they sitting at home with a sad limp pie listening to middle of the road rock.

Which illegal immigrants are "hanging round play areas"?
Do you mean people who aren't white are (shock horror) daring to go to the park?

As a thread on here showed recently, lots of people think there is a World of difference between non-white people going to the park and non-white men from the local hotel specifically lurking around the play equipment when there is plenty of park available. Valid or not, it's something that people feel. Watch the news. Pretty stupid to pretend otherwise.

LavenderBlue19 · 20/08/2025 19:21

Yes, it's horrible. People feel free to make comments they would never have made even 20 years ago. I see it all the time on local Facebook groups - comments about 'boat people' and things like 'It's always them' on crime reports featuring non-white people.

It's social media. People are consuming propaganda constantly, from Farage, Tommy Robinson, GB News, and all their hideous offshoots. Watch one video and the algorithm sends you 10 more. There's a hell of a lot of money going into it, the same as happened in the US before the last election. The goal is division and hate, so that the far-right will get in at the next election.

I hope we're better than that as a country, but I'm less and less hopeful.

purpleygrey · 20/08/2025 19:23

as a white woman I have noticed racism is increasing. My ‘friends’ have started voicing worrying opinions, all starting from ‘stop the boats’.

I also think people generally are more rude, less tolerant and more unkind. This may come across to POC as racism but it could just be a change in human decency and manners.

You seem to be talking about 'white flight' where white people are deliberately fleeing diverse areas. I've seen no evidence of that and would be interested to see it.

PandoraSocks · 20/08/2025 19:24

Olajuwon Ayeni should sue Yaxley-Lennon for libel. I am sure plenty of people would happily donate to a crowd funder.

MrsMurphyIWish · 20/08/2025 19:27

Did anyone watch the Panorama programme where 3 rioters were interviewed? One man said he would never apologise.

StMarie4me · 20/08/2025 19:29

Horrific. Makes me weep.

In 1978 I was in the Anti Nazi League and Rock against Racism. Nearly 50 years later, things are worse because of people like Yaxley- Lennon.

DonnatellaLyman · 20/08/2025 19:32

Yes there is noticeably more racism, the Overton window has shifted incredibly on this. It despicable and incredibly worrying. If you look through history, periods of economic hardship are often accompanied by hatred and dehumanisation of those perceived as ‘other’.

Hugely depressing we have not learnt any lessons.

Loads of white people move to London. Lots of people move out cities as they get older - for more space, bigger houses etc.

White people dont have to factor whether they will encounter racism in their new community into their ‘should we stay or should we go’ equation.

Wishing14 · 20/08/2025 19:36

I think that the majority of people are feeling very lost. It’s not as simple as left/ right, woke/ racist, and people are trying to reduce something that is hugely complex into two camps - you’re in one or the other. You get the big voices at the end of the spectrum. But what about everyone else? I do not think that questioning illegal immigration is racist. I also think there is going to be a tension when you claim that there are many beautiful cultures and identies, black, Asian, Muslim, and so on. Talk about roots and history and traditions and meaning that is part of those groups and people. And then in the same breath say that those who are British and proud of their culture and who want to protect their values and traditions are racist and extremists. This is a clear divide. There are good and bad people from all cultures, races and walks of life. But people should be able to raise concerns about their hometowns changing before their eyes, where their tax money goes, being housed alongside undocumented young men, and so on. To shout racist at everything is to shut down the debate and solves nothing at all.

Totally agree, the racists are emboldened everywhere, including on Mumsnet. It’s depressing.

MrsMurphyIWish · 20/08/2025 19:38

I think the number of posters on this thread is also indicative of the acceptance of racism in our times. The post was made over an hour ago but only onto the second page - anything to do with Labour, benefits, migration etc would have been filled by now.

rubicustellitall · 20/08/2025 19:49

There is no point in any thread on rascism on mumsnet. They shut down any form of debate . There are so many people over dramatizing and clutching pearls who freely point the finger openly as to who is or isn't rascist yet challenge them with the truth and they run off to get the posts deleted as they are highly offended. I offered a view and suddenly I am Eva Braun lol lol lol ..free speech yep only when it suits!!!

It's normalised now. You only have to read Mumsnet to see that.

Didn't see what you said, but presumably the view you offered breached the Talk Guidelines.

Everyone is against illegal immigrants, they shouldn't be in the country. The problem is where immigrants are all lumped together and discussed in racist terms for example, paedophiles, scroungers and rapists.

No one is saying don't discuss immigration, people are saying discuss it without dehumanising and denigrating people. If you're incapable of doing that then you're part of the problem.

There's much to be proud of about being British such as decency and tolerance. Those features aren't expressed by wrapping yourself up in a flag and baying at vulnerable people seeking refuge.
