To think that the USA is a dictatorship now?

Trump appears to have ultimate power. Who can challenge him? Who controls him? Presidents should not be dictating what drug companies charge for medicines on a whim, or indeed any other goods, at the drop of a hat. He says jump and the US says "How High?" What on earth have you done to yourselves and the world to let this evil, thick, orange toddler clown represent you? What the hell were you thinking?

It’s certainly going to be an interesting few years.

SriouslyWhutNow · 15/08/2025 20:55

I'm not sure you understand the word "dictatorship" OP. Try looking at countries with actual dictatorships for reference.

It’s heading there though, the man is a fucking insane narcissistic power hungry fuck who is never wrong and thinks he’s God. He plays off everyone with deep state enemies and democrats are all bad making them hate each other, well the ones who fall for it. He can do not wrong. And not forgetting military control for saying crime is out of control when masses are reporting that’s untrue and Trump is lying, and covering the White House in a gold plated idol worship like he’s a king

dont know how you can sit there and not see that’s the way it’s heading just because you’re comparing it to other countries. All those countries probably started off with a wannabe and then propaganda and dividing the people to each other other so he can rule some more is how is starts. He’s a wannabe for now but getting there.

Why do people throw around words like dictatorship and fascism these days without the slightest idea what they mean? It’s so tedious. Have they ever opened a history book?

Martymcfly24 · 15/08/2025 21:04

"Dictatorships are often characterised by some of the following: suspension of elections and civil liberties; proclamation of a state of emergency; rule by decree; repression of political opponents; not abiding by the procedures of the rule of law; and the existence of a cult of personality centered on the leader."

There are definitely many overlaps between his administration and a dictatorships.

Yes and if are not careful giving power away to tyrants it will happen again.

Halfquarterbag · 15/08/2025 21:13

See how the vote goes at the next election, then get back to us.

IwasatClaines · 15/08/2025 21:15

Yes I think it’s a dictatorship.

A very early clue was Trump’s refusal to accept his electoral defeat after his first term to the point that a mob was encouraged to come to Capitol Hill.
A mob that got pardoned when he got back in second time.

And Trump has only been in power since February second time around.

SamPM · 15/08/2025 21:22

I live in the US and its not a dictatorship. Many of us are quite happy with Trump. The UK elected Starmer who is the most incompetent and worthless PM in my lifetime. You should be worrying more about your loss of freedom of speech and civil liberties, the two-tier justice system you have, the crumbling NHS and the overwhelming increase in crime rate and unfettered illegal immigration. I no longer recognize the UK when I go back and definitely do not feel safe. But yes, by all means, have a superior smug dig at Trump and those that voted for him.

VaseofViolets · 15/08/2025 21:23

God knows why Brits think their opinions on Trump matter, or what they hope to achieve by lecturing supposedly dumb Americans on their stupidity. The US elected him. Their choice, no one else’s. Look at the state the UK is in. How are Brits in a position to pontificate to anyone?

Please give specific examples of all of these under Trump.

TooBigForMyBoots · 15/08/2025 21:24

We won't properly know if it's a dictatorship until the midterms.

It's certainly an authoritarian state right now.

Exactly. There seem to be no checks and balances in the US now. Trump has a brainfart and suddenly it's enacted. Where are the debates, discussion and challenges in the US system? He just seems to be able to do whatever he feels like, on a whim, and people bow down to him and put into place what he asked for.

Oh, and please do explain how Trump signing executive orders asking drug companies to reduce their charges to Americans is a bad thing? Do you have any idea how exorbitant drug prices are in the US? People have DIED in this country because they cannot afford their treatment. Your comment makes no sense.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 15/08/2025 21:29

I was told a few days ago by someone who was travelling to Washington soon that they check your phone as you enter the country to see if you have any anti- Trump stuff on your social media. If you do they can and will refuse entry. So they are going to set themselves up with a completely blank phone. I was 😮

xanthomelana · 15/08/2025 21:30

So Trump wants big pharma to stop selling drugs at rip off prices to people in America and that makes him a dictator? They pay three times the price for the same drugs as European countries so I can see why he’s a bit pissed with that and wants change. Eli Lilly could have dropped the American price to fall in line with ours but instead they took the other option of raising it. I follow a lot of Mounjaro subs on Reddit and the price they pay if their insurance won’t cover it is insane.

That’s the fault of their health system!!!!!!! Why the hell are they forcing countries elsewhere to absorb their crazy prices instead of coming up with a way of offering health care to their citizens that doesn’t require a bank loan each time. Talk about the tail wagging the dog.

That’s what appeals to people. He gets things done. You might not like what he’s doing, but he’s actually doing it. UK politicians of all parties talk the same inane talk and achieve precisely nothing.

Which is all well and good when you agree with the stuff he is ‘getting done’. When it negatively impacts you and there is no democratic way to stop it happening it might start to feel rather like communism.

Sampler · 15/08/2025 21:32

Of course it’s not, don’t be so silly. When you voted Conservative and ended up with Labour, do you suddenly start believing you live in a communist state because you don’t like Labour policies and didn’t vote for them?

Haha, you forgot to throw in a mention of "Khan's London" and people getting thrown into jail for praying in their homes.

Just say "I'm incredibly gullible and believe everything I see on Twitter or get told by JD Vance", it would be much quicker.

lol. At least we don’t force 12 year olds who have been raped to have a forced birth. We still respect Womens right to have bodily autonomy in this country. With the US overturning Roe and Wade I don’t recognise what country you have become, with pastors (read right wing Christian fundamentalists) who openly preach that women need to submit to their husbands. With vile men like Tate being welcome by the US. With Trump forcing law firms, universities to submit to him you don’t have much freedom of speech either. Oh and at least none of us will become bankrupt when we need healthcare in this country.
