To think that the USA is a dictatorship now?

Trump appears to have ultimate power. Who can challenge him? Who controls him? Presidents should not be dictating what drug companies charge for medicines on a whim, or indeed any other goods, at the drop of a hat. He says jump and the US says "How High?" What on earth have you done to yourselves and the world to let this evil, thick, orange toddler clown represent you? What the hell were you thinking?

Oh yes! Of course! The BBC and the Guardian 😂 those 2 bastions of fair and non bias journalism😂

Out of interest, what news sources do you consider to be fair and non-biased journalism?

POTUS trump commited around $4-5 trillion to fight COVID. Operation ward speed helped us to get the vaccine.

Why are you calling him a child rapist?

Because he raped a 13 year old child.

They are not being held without due process. They are being detained while an immigration judge processes their removal. NO ONE is going against the law or the Constitution. It is illegal to enter the US without prior approval. It is illegal to overstay a visa. All of these laws are on the books and have been for decades. They are just finally being enforced.

As for DC, guess what DC means? District of Columbia, another word for the federal government. DC has ALWAYS been under the purview of the federal government, but the responsibility for policing themselves was given to the residents who obviously couldn't handle the responsibility. It devolved into a lawless shithole, to the point where elected officials had to hire body guards or carry firearms themselves and staffers were being attacked in broad daylight.

The amount of ignorance on MN always astounds me.

DC is not a "lawless shithole". It was in a bad state in the 1990s but certainly wasn't in 2024.

Incidentally, if anyone wants to see an actual two-tier justice system, the US is a good example.

If anyone else had done the things Trump had done (Jan 6, theft and sharing of classified documents, for a start) they'd be in prison for decades.

And that's before getting into him weaponozing it to go after political opponents (and, in my view most appallingly, Jack Smith) and deporting people illegally.

For that matter the people who actually mounted the insurrection should still be doing porridge. Instead they got pardoned and Ashli Babbitt is treated as a martyr.

Good point. What I hate about the US is that they blindly stick to party lines. Even the democrats with Clinton.

In the UK, the parties at least oust someone who isn't good enough.

If isn’t a dictatorship and is still inside the top 10% of the world in being free and fair.

But….it has slipped and there are worrying elements.

There are a lot of things which might happen (gerrymandering or the mid terms for instance) but haven’t yet.

The mid terms and how they are held will be a good test of how autocratic Trump actually is. There are also a lot of things wending their way through the court system. So far, once judicial process has been exhausted, Trump had obeyed the courts. Again, if that changes, it is very worrying.
