To think that the USA is a dictatorship now?

Trump appears to have ultimate power. Who can challenge him? Who controls him? Presidents should not be dictating what drug companies charge for medicines on a whim, or indeed any other goods, at the drop of a hat. He says jump and the US says "How High?" What on earth have you done to yourselves and the world to let this evil, thick, orange toddler clown represent you? What the hell were you thinking?

North Korea is a dictatorship. The US is nowhere near on the same level of authoritarianism.

categorychaos · 15/08/2025 21:36

SamPM · 15/08/2025 21:27

Oh, and please do explain how Trump signing executive orders asking drug companies to reduce their charges to Americans is a bad thing? Do you have any idea how exorbitant drug prices are in the US? People have DIED in this country because they cannot afford their treatment. Your comment makes no sense.

People die in your country because people like Trump and to be honest any political party (of any shade) has not challenged why your citizens should have to pay for treatment and drugs to the extent they do. Trump is asking the drug companies he does not have an invested interest in to comply.

OP in answer to your question I’d say not a dictatorship but the US was never, ever a democracy - it looks like it’s becoming an oligarchy more than anything.

lol. At least we don’t force 12 year olds who have been raped to have a forced birth. We still respect Womens right to have bodily autonomy in this country. With the US overturning Roe and Wade I don’t recognise what country you have become, with pastors (read right wing Christian fundamentalists) who openly preach that women need to submit to their husbands. With vile men like Tate being welcome by the US. With Trump forcing law firms, universities to submit to him you don’t have much freedom of speech either. Oh and at least none of us will become bankrupt when we need healthcare in this country.

No we just let our 12 year olds get raped by grooming gangs then cover it up. We are no better.

LimpysGotCancer · 15/08/2025 21:37

VaseofViolets · 15/08/2025 21:30

That’s what appeals to people. He gets things done. You might not like what he’s doing, but he’s actually doing it. UK politicians of all parties talk the same inane talk and achieve precisely nothing.

He doesn't get things done though. He's the "announcement president". He says this or signs an EO on that before moving on /chickening out / bowing down to Putin, and the usual mugs assume it happened because he said it.

I live in the US and its not a dictatorship. Many of us are quite happy with Trump. The UK elected Starmer who is the most incompetent and worthless PM in my lifetime. You should be worrying more about your loss of freedom of speech and civil liberties, the two-tier justice system you have, the crumbling NHS and the overwhelming increase in crime rate and unfettered illegal immigration. I no longer recognize the UK when I go back and definitely do not feel safe. But yes, by all means, have a superior smug dig at Trump and those that voted for him.

How dare you be happy with how the bad orange man is doing?

Let these educated, enlightened Brits with a superiority complex educate you. And don’t mention the current state of the UK or its many problems… this criticism only works in one direction, you see. They can dish it out but don’t like taking it 😁

Sausagenbacon · 15/08/2025 21:38

I was told a few days ago by someone who was travelling to Washington soon that they check your phone as you enter the country to see if you have any anti- Trump stuff on your social media. If you do they can and will refuse entry. So they are going to set themselves up with a completely blank phone. I was 😮
Do you believe everything people tell you? Do you honestly think immigration have time to do this?

Precisely. The UK has no business lecturing anyone.

Sausagenbacon · 15/08/2025 21:40

IMO I think there is a subset of mn posters who lack the critical thinking to realise that - surprise - other people think differently from them, and aren't idiots/racists (insert abusive epithet of choice).

Why do people throw around words like dictatorship and fascism these days without the slightest idea what they mean? It’s so tedious. Have they ever opened a history book?

This, as pp said, it's the people of the USA who've voted him in.
Its not a dictatorship just because they have different views and political opinions to you!

spoonbillstretford · 15/08/2025 21:41

VaseofViolets · 15/08/2025 21:23

God knows why Brits think their opinions on Trump matter, or what they hope to achieve by lecturing supposedly dumb Americans on their stupidity. The US elected him. Their choice, no one else’s. Look at the state the UK is in. How are Brits in a position to pontificate to anyone?

It's not in a state and certainly not compared to the US. We have a proper political and legal system with checks and balances and an independent system. We have free and accessible healthcare, not the scraps thrown to you occasionally after emptying your wallets into insurance. We have at least five weeks annual leave a year and proper matenity leave and sound employment rights. We have a very safe, tolerant country where we can freely express our views without fear of reprisal. We have largely very good race and gender relations. We don't have guns and violent crime is low. We don't have hundreds of kids killed by lone gumen a year in schools - in fact, like in most countries without a gun culture, we usually have zero school shootings in a year, unlike the US which averages one a week. Women can get safe, free abortions and contraception without fear of ptosecution or persecution. The US is seriously fucked up and is fast going to hell in a handcart with an orange rapist dictator.

There are 350 millions Americans and although I don’t live there I have family and a fair few friends and I see media posts and I call bullshit on your ‘most of us are happy! He’s divided the country and politically many can’t stand him. He’s a divisive man and full of hatred and gets off on people worshipping him.

Sounds very much like Starmer. We have a divided country and many people can’t stand him either. We really shouldn’t be throwing stones at any other country at the moment.

You had Jeffrey Epstein and a massive grooming gang involving hundreds of American men, including your esteemed President.

You have twelve year olds being raped and unable to get an abortion. Hell, only a few years ago 12 year olds were getting married in some states.

What was the point in that exercise? All this ranting about orange rapists makes you sound unhinged.

You’ve listed all the ways you believe the UK is superior to the US. Good for you, you live here, that’s fine. What do you want, every single country on earth to be a carbon copy of this one? People are not the same - they have different cultures, different priorities. They’re allowed to. Just because you want it, doesn’t mean others have to. Don’t like the US? Dont live there. Why do you care so much? It’s none of your business.

And the tolerant UK you’re so proud of lets in masses of immigrant men to rape and abuse little girls - that’s the country you’re so proud of….

Dangermoo · 15/08/2025 21:48

It’s heading there though, the man is a fucking insane narcissistic power hungry fuck who is never wrong and thinks he’s God. He plays off everyone with deep state enemies and democrats are all bad making them hate each other, well the ones who fall for it. He can do not wrong. And not forgetting military control for saying crime is out of control when masses are reporting that’s untrue and Trump is lying, and covering the White House in a gold plated idol worship like he’s a king

dont know how you can sit there and not see that’s the way it’s heading just because you’re comparing it to other countries. All those countries probably started off with a wannabe and then propaganda and dividing the people to each other other so he can rule some more is how is starts. He’s a wannabe for now but getting there.

Just do a search on it. I’ve just done a simple google search and it’s been reported all over the place and widely discussed on Reddit groups.

And people will now die in here because of it. Companies should be allowed to make their own decisions regarding who they sell to and at what price.

It's the Reform racist fuckwits who are trying to divide the country, fomenting hatred, and the Brexit that they wanted, and the last government who were corrupt and incompetent. The reasonable and rational majority must rise up and fight the minority extremists.

TinyIsMyNewt · 15/08/2025 21:51

It's certainly premature to call it a dictatorship but it is valid to have concerns. Trump has certainly signalled a willingness to ignore the courts and bypass Congress, but we wont know until - at earliest - whether the US will have something resembling free and fair elections again.

He's certainly extremely authoritarian.

And most likely a nonce.

We are being divided yes, but begging for a trump here isn’t there answer. Politics is a dirty game but I think I a lot of people are going to be for a rude awakening if they think reform is the answer. This post will age well
