To think that the USA is a dictatorship now?

Trump appears to have ultimate power. Who can challenge him? Who controls him? Presidents should not be dictating what drug companies charge for medicines on a whim, or indeed any other goods, at the drop of a hat. He says jump and the US says "How High?" What on earth have you done to yourselves and the world to let this evil, thick, orange toddler clown represent you? What the hell were you thinking?

It's not in a state and certainly not compared to the US. We have a proper political and legal system with checks and balances and an independent system. We have free and accessible healthcare, not the scraps thrown to you occasionally after emptying your wallets into insurance. We have at least five weeks annual leave a year and proper matenity leave and sound employment rights. We have a very safe, tolerant country where we can freely express our views without fear of reprisal. We have largely very good race and gender relations. We don't have guns and violent crime is low. We don't have hundreds of kids killed by lone gumen a year in schools - in fact, like in most countries without a gun culture, we usually have zero school shootings in a year, unlike the US which averages one a week. Women can get safe, free abortions and contraception without fear of ptosecution or persecution. The US is seriously fucked up and is fast going to hell in a handcart with an orange rapist dictator.

@spoonbillstretford Remember though that what you’re describing re. healthcare, access to guns, etc. is the way it’s been in the US forever, it’s nothing new. Re. Abortion. To prevent a possible overturning of Roe vs. Wade, Congress should have acted decades ago, but they didn’t. Each state now has its own laws on the issue.

TinyIsMyNewt · 17/08/2025 20:50

Incidentally, if anyone wants to see an actual two-tier justice system, the US is a good example.

If anyone else had done the things Trump had done (Jan 6, theft and sharing of classified documents, for a start) they'd be in prison for decades.

And that's before getting into him weaponozing it to go after political opponents (and, in my view most appallingly, Jack Smith) and deporting people illegally.

MuckFusk · 17/08/2025 22:00

To the fine folks on this thread trying to reason with Trump fans; just know that you're not talking to people who can be rational about this. They actually know what a monster he is and that the things you are saying about him are true. They will make a pretence of saying he's being wrongly accused, that it's fake news, the deep state, blablabla, but they know it's true. They just don't care. That's they key to understanding them. They like that he's evil because it makes them feel safe. That sounds strange when you first hear it, but it's because they feel America, and therefore themselves personally, are well protected when the leader is a psychopath who will stop at nothing. That's the appeal all vicious despots have. It's why Putin is popular in Russia.
These people are like children who, when they feel threatened by another child's aggression, boast that their father will beat up the other child's father. I try to determine if somebody is a Trump supporter before talking to them at length. If they are, I know not to waste my time. It really is hopeless and unfortunately, that's down to human psychology.

They are not being held without due process. They are being detained while an immigration judge processes their removal. NO ONE is going against the law or the Constitution. It is illegal to enter the US without prior approval. It is illegal to overstay a visa. All of these laws are on the books and have been for decades. They are just finally being enforced.

As for DC, guess what DC means? District of Columbia, another word for the federal government. DC has ALWAYS been under the purview of the federal government, but the responsibility for policing themselves was given to the residents who obviously couldn't handle the responsibility. It devolved into a lawless shithole, to the point where elected officials had to hire body guards or carry firearms themselves and staffers were being attacked in broad daylight.

The amount of ignorance on MN always astounds me.

Except that, while there may be some debate about the exact figures, violent crime has been falling...

Is crime in Washington really out of control as Trump claims?

President Trump says he will deploy hundreds of troops to Washington DC to address crime there.

Great thread OP. I love that while you furiously denounce Trump for being a fascist ending democracy, what has actually really got you riled up is ...the price of your weight loss jabs going up.

Oh yes! Of course! The BBC and the Guardian 😂 those 2 bastions of fair and non bias journalism😂

You seriously think the BBC and Guardian are making up quotes from judges and lawsuits?

I suppose it must be kinda nice to just throw reality out of the window when convenient...

Amazing how the Orange Nonce's fan club think that every news source that doesnt parrot Trump is "biased" yet seldom have any objection to Fox News being a conveyer belt into government.

More than 20 of the more rabid Pro-Trump personalities on Fox have landed jobs in his administration - despite many being woefully under qualified. He hires folks for little reason other than that they have demonstrated a willingness to lie for him.

But yeah, its the left and centre that are biased...

If i understand you correctly (which is difficult) you're assuming that i'm a fan of Trump, which i am definitely not.

But I believe in nuance, unlike the anti-trump posters on here.

lkjhgfdsa · 18/08/2025 07:34

Actually I think the BBC does do a fairly good job of being unbiased compared to most news sources. The left are convinced they are biased right and the right are convinced they are biased left!

This post I just read seems apt here...

X is now promoting posts from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to all users. One of those posts directly attacked CNN, saying: “CNN has earned the title Fake News for a reason.”

This isn’t just a partisan jab and this isn’t even about CNN, it’s propaganda. And it echoes some of history’s darkest chapters.

Let’s talk about the parallels to Nazi rhetoric, because the comparison isn’t about shock value, it’s about recognizing patterns before they become normalized.

- “Fake News” vs. “Lügenpresse”
The Nazis weaponized the term “Lügenpresse”(lying press) to discredit any media critical of the regime. Sound familiar? Branding critical journalism as “fake news” is a tactic designed to erode trust in independent reporting and condition the public to only believe state-approved narratives.

- Government Propaganda Machines
In Nazi Germany, the Ministry of Propaganda churned out nationalistic images, dehumanizing stereotypes, and glorified portrayals of leadership. DHS is now posting stylized patriotic art, “sizzle reels” of ICE leaders, and even mugshots of migrants. Not for public safety, but to stoke fear and boost political theater.

- Scapegoating and Dehumanization
The Nazis portrayed minorities as criminals and threats to society. Today, we’re seeing DHS circulate mugshots of immigrants to build a narrative that conflates immigration with crime. While erasing due process and context. This isn’t public policy. It’s fearmongering.

- Undermining Democratic Norms
When a federal agency attacks journalists and amplifies culture-war propaganda, it’s not just “being political”, it’s dismantling the idea of objective truth. The message becomes clear: Don’t trust the media. Don’t question the government.

We’re not saying we’re Nazi Germany. But when the methods of communication start to mirror those of authoritarian regimes, it’s a red flag we can’t afford to ignore.

Silencing the press, stoking fear, and glorifying state power is not patriotism. It’s propaganda. It’s not what America stands for!

To think that the USA is a dictatorship now?
