Why did I drink 2 bottles of wine!

Isitchristmasyett · 27/07/2025 14:57

So, I was making a Sunday roast yesterday, opened a bottle of wine and before I knew it 2 had gone! This is not a regular occasion and don’t think I have ever done that before. It was over the course of about 6 hours but I am paying for it today.

can anybody else manage 2 bottles?

Why? Because you have a drink problem and hopefully this is the first step you take in admitting that and beginning to address it

holachicatita · 27/07/2025 14:59

Wait, isn't today Sunday? Anyway, no I could never but I'm sure it's not the end of the world!

Really?

PoxyAndIKnowIt · 27/07/2025 15:01

No, I really couldn’t.
This is dangerous behaviour, OP; if it’s a one off, fair enough, but if it keeps happening you urgently need to address your drinking behaviour.

Isitchristmasyett · 27/07/2025 15:00

Really?

i would say so yes

why don’t you ask someone close to you who was there yesterday what they think?

JudgeBread · 27/07/2025 15:01

I mean as long as you're not doing it every Sunday why not? I could drink two bottles of wine over six hours, I'd be reminiscent of a cave troll the next day if I did, but that never stopped me in my twenties lmao.

Inb4 people come in and start accusing you of being a rampant alcoholic. Didn't you know on Mumsnet you're a raging alchie if you don't get horribly squiffy from a single teeny tiny glass of fizz?

Growlybear83 · 27/07/2025 15:02

I could easily have drunk two bottles in my late teens and 20s, but I don’t drink at all now, so even one glass of wine would probably knock me out now 😆

W0tnow · 27/07/2025 15:02

2 bottles? No. I couldn’t. Maybe a little over a bottle, at a big social event, over many hours. 2 at home on a regular Sunday? Never.

Eyesopenwideawake · 27/07/2025 15:03

Yeah, I can do 2 bottles when the stars align. Sadly less and less as I get older but it's always a memorable occasion when it happens. Don't beat yourself up @Isitchristmasyett

ConcernedOfClapham · 27/07/2025 15:03

I hope it was nice wine, OP.

not my place to judge 🤷‍♂️

PoxyAndIKnowIt · 27/07/2025 15:04

It’s not just the amount, it’s drinking a huge amount alone that would be setting off alarm bells if it’s a more than very occasional occurrence.

Blottum · 27/07/2025 15:04

If it is not a regular occurrence, surely you’d have been pissed as a fart?

Springadorable · 27/07/2025 15:08

It's the fact you didn't even notice how much you were drinking, sounds like you were mostly drinking alone, and it wasn't an event or an occasion - you were just drinking while doing household chores like cooking without giving it any thought.

CharSiu · 27/07/2025 15:08

No because I would be drunk, you have an issue plus that much depending on white or red or type means you could have consumed up to 50 grams of sugar and 40 grams of carbs without even noticing.

nzeire · 27/07/2025 15:09

Cos it was yummy?
did the roast survive!?

it’s a lot, it’s a one off, you’re paying for it today. I wouldn’t worry about it. Stick to one next time xxx

LuckyMoonstone · 27/07/2025 15:12

If I started drinking wine at lunch time/early afternoon on a Saturday/Sunday, I could absolutely do 2 bottles! I’d feel crap the next day though, so it’s not something I’d choose to do very often, but I’d enjoy myself at the time.

Lovemycat2023 · 27/07/2025 15:12

Were you thirsty? I drink too quickly when either I’m thirty, or eating dry / salty food. Drinking when cooking tends to do that. But I never get beyond half a bottle. I think I would be horrified to realise I was a bottle down.

Iloveeverycat · 27/07/2025 15:12

I would say over 6 hours is a long time.

No3392 · 27/07/2025 15:13

As you've already seen, you're going to be called an alcoholic, even though you've said in your post that this isn't a regular occurrence at all!

Clearly it's once in a blue moon, look after yourself today!

Ok so it’s not a regular occurrence.

in which case…. 2 bottles of wine, the op would have been drunk. Like properly drunk. And she doesn’t even remotely allude to that.

OP, simple really. Ask someone close to you who was around yesterday what they think of your drinking.

NazeLife · 27/07/2025 15:15

If I drank two bottles of wine at any point in my life, I would be sick.

BeMellowAquaSquid · 27/07/2025 15:17

Every few months or so I go to my bestfriends house and we EASILY get through around the same throughout the course of the day. 6 hours of drinking = 250ml glasses 3 in a bottle that’s one glass an hour.

So long as you’re not dependent or doing this every weekend I’d say enjoy yourself! I just said on another thread I’m going to open up a bottle of Chocolate Block wine tonight and it definitely won’t last me more than a couple of hours. It sounds as though you have a healthy relationship with alcohol not everyone that likes drink is an alcoholic.

Pixiedust49 · 27/07/2025 15:18

In my younger days we used to drink a bottle of wine each before we even went out!

ConnieHeart · 27/07/2025 15:18

I had about 8 drinks on Christmas Day over around 8 hours. I felt fine. Bit tipsy but lovely! But I haven't had that much since. Once in a while is ok

Platypusdiver · 27/07/2025 15:19

I am also wondering how this could have happened today, seeing at it is 15:15 in the uk.

Even in new Zealand, it in the middle of the night. Or, did you do a roast on Saturday?

Not being arsey, just wondering if this is AI-generated.
