Why did I drink 2 bottles of wine!

So, I was making a Sunday roast yesterday, opened a bottle of wine and before I knew it 2 had gone! This is not a regular occasion and don’t think I have ever done that before. It was over the course of about 6 hours but I am paying for it today.

can anybody else manage 2 bottles?

I could do that very easily if I started at lunch time. I don’t very often, maybe once or twice a year. And I’m definitely not an alcoholic.
Carbs and lots of water op, you’ll be fine.

caramac04 · 27/07/2025 15:50

I’ll have one bottle with the football but only because I haven’t got two! I’d start now and finish about 10pm. No hangover tomorrow either:
I don’t do this every week and I have fewer days drinking than not drinking. I can, and do, go weeks without a drink As a one off OP, it’s not that terrible. #HTH

Dodeedoo · 27/07/2025 15:51

So many judgy twats on this thread

BunnyLake · 27/07/2025 15:51

I’d be comatose if I drank two bottles of wine over a few hours. I’m one of those ‘one mouthful and I feel tipsy’ people though.

LovesToWalk · 27/07/2025 15:53

There is something special about cooking wine, especially when you’re cooking a roast!

I love nothing more than pottering around the kitchen, audiobook or music on, cooking a roast and ordering somebody to top me up.

Today we have a casserole in the oven, so only one glass while I put that together, and now I am having a few while I read my book (and scroll!)

Don’t feel bad OP, sometimes I think those wine bottles are leaky!

Isitchristmasyett · 27/07/2025 15:54

I made dinner for my parents and just got too giddy. I put the kids to bed and woke up with them this morning ready for them to go to their dads, we split up around a month ago.

2 bottles over 6 hours would make me merry but not the kind of “don’t want I’m doing” drunk that some posters seem to suggest! Can easily drink over a bottle at an evening work social, plus whisky later in the evening! And work the next day!

I don’t do it all the time, of course and have water / soft drinks as well to avoid a terrible hangover the next day! Doesn’t make me an alcoholic or a bad person and I don’t feel guilty about it!

Don’t feel bad about drinking 2 bottles during a nice Saturday afternoon and evening!
As others have said it’s only a glass an hour!

PerfectTuesday · 27/07/2025 15:54

I did drink that amount occasionally when I was younger - I'd have had a nasty hangover and crippling 'beer fear' afterwards. I don't drink at all now because the next day isn't worth it. I miss it sometimes.

So all good then.

You’ll be fine tomorrow

Jeeez people on Mumsnet love an opportunity to look down on someone. Get yourself to AA pronto and never do it again.

drink lots of water and don’t give it another thought. Nothing bad happened.

On MN, a thimble full of sherry at Christmas makes you an alkie!

and for god's sake, don't eat all the cherry brandy chocs either

Why? Because you have a drink problem and hopefully this is the first step you take in admitting that and beginning to address it

Nonsense. A one-off day of heavy drinking does not amount to a drink problem.

Howdoesithappenlikethis · 27/07/2025 15:55

I have been known to do this and paid the price the day after, I will easily drink a full bottle and then an extra glass at a weekend and be fine the next day. Ignore all the comments from the people who are holier than though, you even stated in your op it's not a regular occurrence, I'm sure as a one off now and again it's not going to cause any long term harm. Hope you're feeling better asap, get plenty of fluids/lucozade is great if you have it in, and try to eat some toast if you can stomach it.

TiptoeThroughTheToadstools · 27/07/2025 15:56

Drinking 2 bottles of wine one evening does not make you an alcoholic, and by the sounds of your hangover, im guessing you won't be repeating it anytime soon lol. Nothing to feel bad about, hope the hang over goes away soon!

Isitchristmasyett · 27/07/2025 15:57

I just feel bad for the children I suppose, but I don’t think I was too bad, they have never seen me drunk, makes me think I am a bad mother

No definitely not, 2 glasses is too much for me these days, I can't imagine finishing one bottle!

You're not.

You're really really not.

Maryberrysaga · 27/07/2025 15:58

You’ve just split up with partner and you had a few too many. Be kind to yourself op, it sounds like you’ve a lot going on. And it also sounds like you have beer fear! It will pass x

@Dodeedoo

you “chill out”

Dodeedoo · 27/07/2025 15:59

CharSiu · 27/07/2025 15:08

No because I would be drunk, you have an issue plus that much depending on white or red or type means you could have consumed up to 50 grams of sugar and 40 grams of carbs without even noticing.

Snore

For goodness sake, such an overreaction.

@Isitchristmasyett if it’s not habitual, don’t beat yourself up. Just don’t do it regularly!!

Did you read that post of mine?

Isitchristmasyett · 27/07/2025 16:00
