Why did I drink 2 bottles of wine!

Isitchristmasyett · 27/07/2025 14:57

So, I was making a Sunday roast yesterday, opened a bottle of wine and before I knew it 2 had gone! This is not a regular occasion and don’t think I have ever done that before. It was over the course of about 6 hours but I am paying for it today.

can anybody else manage 2 bottles?

Why were you making Sunday roast on Saturday ??

We have Sunday roast every Saturday as we’re shift workers. 🤷🏻‍♀️

harriethoyle · 27/07/2025 16:01

Ps toast and marmite and a couple of paracetamol washed down by lime and soda always sorts my hangovers out. Although perhaps I shouldn’t admit to getting hungover lest I’m labelled an alcoholic 🙄

Did you read that post of mine?

Yes I did. Accusing the OP of having a drinking problem because she drank 2 bottles of wine as a one off. That is why you need to chill out ms judgy

What’s your relationship like with your folks?

Why are you so obsessed with this particular poster? You’re coming across very odd.

mamagogo1 · 27/07/2025 16:02

No I couldn’t , not because I’d be particularly drunk spread over that many hours but because i would not open a second bottle. I very rarely open wine up just for me. Also no way would I spend 6 hours cooking!

There is no “accusation”

I am the child of a parent who had a problem with alcohol

it is not an “accusation”

Oneeyedonkey · 27/07/2025 16:02

Blottum · 27/07/2025 14:58

Why? Because you have a drink problem and hopefully this is the first step you take in admitting that and beginning to address it

Oh do bugger off, and once you're there, bugger off some more!

Yeah, I can do 2 bottles when the stars align. Sadly less and less as I get older but it's always a memorable occasion when it happens. Don't beat yourself up @Isitchristmasyett

Yeah, I could if it’s a really nice bottle or two and with food/good company over several hours. Who am I kidding? I could alone with good telly over several hours too if it has been a particularly shit week. I absolutely could if it’s really hot weather and it was white wine. I’d have a stonker of a hangover though, probably do something idiotic and not do it for many years again.

So am I. Two bottles of wine as a one off does not make someone an alcoholic!

I just feel bad for the children I suppose, but I don’t think I was too bad, they have never seen me drunk, makes me think I am a bad mother

Sounds like they had a lovely roast dinner with their mum and grandparents. They probably thought mum being giddy was quite funny! My Dad (who isn’t normally a big drinker) drank too much wine on holiday once and jumped in the pool fully clothed. My sister and I still have a giggle about this occasionally!

I think the hangover will be making you feel anxious. If you’re child-free today, have a long bath and plenty of water (grab an electrolyte drink if you feel up to going out) then a nice carby dinner later. Hope you’re feeling better soon x

Blottum · 27/07/2025 16:03

All the best op

im sure you’ll fine tomorrow

StarlightRobot · 27/07/2025 16:04

@Blottum

I was just about to ask if you have or had someone in your life with a drinking problem. You’ve now shared that you do / did. It explains your responses but I think you are projecting your own experience onto the OPeho already feels guilty and anxious for having too much to drink (as a one off).

Slowdownyouredoingfine · 27/07/2025 16:05

Oh @Blottum just be quiet for god sake. I’d love to see a list of your life sins so we could all jump down your throat. You’re so obnoxious and bloody boring frankly!

OP don’t sweat it, you just have hangxiety. The unfortunate price you pay for trying to relax as an adult/parent sometimes… don’t beat yourself up!

I read that as “vodka, lime and soda” 😆

I went out on an impromptu Friday night for the first time in a millennium. Saw loads of old friends out and what started as ‘just a couple’ ended up with 2 bottles of white wine and me absolutely hanging out of my arse yesterday. It’ll be another millennium before it happens again. But no, I don’t have an alcohol problem and so long as this isn’t a regular occurrence then neither do you. The suggestions that you do are both hilarious and insane.

Platypusdiver · 27/07/2025 16:05

Yep. I could have done this, like you, accidently, if enjoying myself. However, that was up until 5 years ago.

Now I count my drinks. It comes with age. And the anxiety also increases!

AlertEagle · 27/07/2025 16:05

How often do you drink op? I drink very rarely but my absolute favourite wine is the cheap supermarket Barefoot Zinfandel Rose. I can finish a whole bottle by myself because of how sweet it is but I would need a lot of water to stay hydrated.

Slowdownyouredoingfine · 27/07/2025 16:06

Oh and I am also the child of an alcoholic parent @Blottum it’s no excuse to be an arse.

harriethoyle · 27/07/2025 16:06

@Mila345 not that 🤣 although we are hair of the dogging today. Dog looking a bit bald tbh!

Sugargliderwombat · 27/07/2025 16:06

A large glass an hour. A lot but it does begin to metabolise so with a big meal thrown in I can see how if you can easily drink a bottle over the course of a few hours then 2 could happen over 6. I don't think it makes you an alcoholic!

Fandango52 · 27/07/2025 16:06

Isitchristmasyett · 27/07/2025 15:31

No I just feel guilty about it

Why do you feel guilty?

LaLaLandDreams · 27/07/2025 16:06

One glass would be more than enough for me but alcohol is a rare thing for me.

This, seconded.

LakieLady · 27/07/2025 16:06

I could drink two bottles of white comfortably without much ill effect, as long I paced myself, say starting with a glass or two before lunch at 12.30, then another 2-3, pssibly 4 with the meal, and a few more more afterwards. I'd know I'd had a drink the following day, but I'd feel perfectly well enough to go to work etc.

I couldn't do that with red though. A glass or two more than a bottle and I end up with a crippling migraine that makes me throw up so badly that I can't even keep water down.

It's a bloody shame, because I love red wine and there are two very fine bottles of Crozes Hermitage in the wine rack.

ClarasSisters · 27/07/2025 16:07

Can you clarify please - you shared 2 bottles of wine with 2 other adults? Or you drank 2 bottles entirely alone? One of those is less of an issue than the other.

And the 'I can drink a bottle and still be ok', how often is that happening? Regularly sinking a whole bottle by yourself would suggest to me that you do indeed have a problem with alcohol.
