To think it's normal to tie your hair back to poo or eat?

Came up in conversation with a friend, we both have just below the shoulder length hair. I tie my hair back/up whenever I go for a poo or eat a meal and she thinks this is really odd, is it? 🤔 I've always done it and thought it was something a lot of people do, especially when eating.

Yes that's odd

Ihatelittlefriendsusan · 11/07/2025 12:47

Schools are breaking up i see!

DryIce · 11/07/2025 12:47

It's not something I do. I suppose I could see it for eating, no change it would get in the way/end up in your mouth. But going for a poo? Genuinely, what are you trying to avoid here?

Devilsmommy · 11/07/2025 12:48

Eating yes I can see why but going for a poo?🤔

Screamingabdabz · 11/07/2025 12:48

I don’t tie my hair back for those ‘occasions’. I l always wonder at women who have longer hair and tie it back all the time. Just cut it short!

BogRollBOGOF · 11/07/2025 12:48

I've been known to tie it up for eating so it's not flopping into my face in the way. Also I get hotter as I eat so it can help with temperature control.

For the toilet? Not if it's shorter than waist length.

Needmorelego · 11/07/2025 12:48

Eating I can understand.....but the other 🤔

GoldenRosebee · 11/07/2025 12:48

I sometimes tie my hair when eating, because I occasionally got hair in my meal, but do not tie my hair to poo, ever.

Pinty · 11/07/2025 12:48

Why do you do it?
No it's isn't something most people do and surely you have noticed that by now when eating our with other people?

AttachmentFTW · 11/07/2025 12:48

Why to poo? I can understand why when eating because the strands might get in the way but your face and hair don't need to get involved when pooing.

That said I don't think either are normal, I have long hair, way past shoulders and I wouldn't think to tie it up for either of those activities specifically. I tie it up when it's hot or I need it out the way or when it's looking a bit rubbish down because it needs washing/styling but I don't have time.

K0OLA1D · 11/07/2025 12:49

I have hair down to the middle of my back and am physically unable to tie it up.

Never heard of anyone do this before!!

BedlingtonWillow · 11/07/2025 12:50

I do when eating because my hair's long enough it could end up in my food if I'm not careful, but it's not down to my bum, so I've never even contemplated tying it back to use the loo.

namechangeGOT · 11/07/2025 12:51

Long thick hair down to the small of my back and I don’t tie it back for either!

I doubt the OP has either.

Purpleturtle45 · 11/07/2025 12:51

Never heard of that before 🤷🏼‍♀️

3luckystars · 11/07/2025 12:54

I tie it up when I get too hot, or am having a bath, when it’s annoying me or if I’m going on a rollercoaster. Not for any other reason.

I have a lot of it and it has never caused any interference in other daily tasks.

RaininSummer · 11/07/2025 12:54

Very odd. Is your hair long enough to get caught up in your knickers or go down the loo?

BlueyNeedsToFuckOff · 11/07/2025 12:58

I tie my hair back if I’m eating outside if it’s windy.

Can’t understand why someone with just below shoulder length hair would need to tie their hair back while having a poo, though, unless you excrete through a different orifice than I do.

FfaCoff · 11/07/2025 12:59

Why the hell would you tie it up to poo? What are you doing in the toilet that you're worried about poo getting on your hair...

Crole · 11/07/2025 13:00

I can't remember ever not doing it when eating but I think being hot is where it comes from, would drive me mad to eat a meal and feel my head being sweaty.

I've definitely seen other women tie their hair up when eating or do housework (again, probably because of sweating).

Doesn't explain the toilet though, it's not because of sweating or not wanting to get poo on my hair!!

Never thought about it before until it came up and didn't think it was that weird but I guess it is from the reactions.

I’m sorry, you do what?? For eating I can just about see the logic because I tie mine up for cooking, but for pooing? Why??

Workingonthehighway · 11/07/2025 13:02

I tie my hair up for lots of things because its distracting and annoying like wearing high heels (which I no longer do) but it stops me thinking clearly.
I always shout at the tv when girls arevtruing to escape a murders dungeon and dont tie their hair up.

raven0007 · 11/07/2025 13:03

I don’t when I eat but I do when I use the toilet. Although my hair is long enough to sit on so I have my reasons…

Elevenor · 11/07/2025 13:04

Why?

CoubousAndTourmalet · 11/07/2025 13:05

My hair is long enough to sit on, so in my case it is necessary to do something with it in relation to the loo. I generally just pull my hair over one shoulder rather than actually tying it though.

I do tie it back when I cook and eat, purely to avoid singeing it on the cooker or getting it covered in food.
