To think it's normal to tie your hair back to poo or eat?

Came up in conversation with a friend, we both have just below the shoulder length hair. I tie my hair back/up whenever I go for a poo or eat a meal and she thinks this is really odd, is it? 🤔 I've always done it and thought it was something a lot of people do, especially when eating.

Sorry op but you are mad. Are you pooing all over your head?!

SunnySideUK77 · 11/07/2025 13:56

Do you always know you’re going to do a poo when you go to the toilet? I don’t. Sometimes I do but not generally. I thought that was more of a man thing?

I don’t tie my hair back for those ‘occasions’. I l always wonder at women who have longer hair and tie it back all the time. Just cut it short!

Because I have super thick curly hair and I would look like an absolute disaster with it short….it would just stick out sideways.

Growlybear83 · 11/07/2025 13:57

I think that’s very odd. I’ve got waist length hair and the only time I have tied it back for as long as I can remember is when I go swimming. Why would you tie it back when you have a poo? I don’t normally put my head near the toilet bowl.

myotheraccountsa · 11/07/2025 13:57

Re: pooing upside down & you saying isn't that what everyone does...

Do you sit down, and fold over so your head is hanging towards the floor - meaning your hair would be trailing on the floor if you didn't tie it back?

hungryduck · 11/07/2025 13:58

Hair up to brush teeth is a must.

Memely · 11/07/2025 13:59

I only do it for a bj.

GentleSheep · 11/07/2025 14:02

No, the only time would be for doing cleaning or perhaps gardening. Otherwise, I've had shoulder to boob length hair all my life and not tied it back for those reasons.

LightCameraBitchSmile · 11/07/2025 14:03

YES! I do this!

But more so if the thing I'm eating is going to be really good/a bigger meal etc and same with the poo! I have a bit of a weak stomach and as soon as I get cramps I know my hair is going up on my way to the bathroom!

RitaFires · 11/07/2025 14:04

I'm trying to think what I tie my hair up for, usually housework, sometimes to eat but I've never tied it up specifically to poo. I imagine everyone has their own idea of what hair up activities are.

Whatsitreallylike · 11/07/2025 14:05

When you’re on the toilet do you tend to lean forward? I can imagine your hair falling around your face and getting annoying if that’s the case.

Suecee · 11/07/2025 14:07

I could understand you pulling your hair forwards to poo, if its below your waist...
Im assuming it is long.....!
Any shorter than ribcage, possibly OCD

My pet hate is jewelery on necklaces (with stones) that touch their counterparts..... 😱

I tie my hair up for lots of things because its distracting and annoying like wearing high heels (which I no longer do) but it stops me thinking clearly.
I always shout at the tv when girls arevtruing to escape a murders dungeon and dont tie their hair up.

I understand the whole tying your hair back so it's one less distraction when you're trying to think clearly and especially in horror movies etc when their hair is just in their way all the time...but how much thinking is really involved in having a poo?

My19thNervousNameChange · 11/07/2025 14:10

I think that as long as you don't have a deranged monkey scooping the poop out and flinging it at your head as you poo then you should probably consider just, you know, going for a crap whilst observing the normal protocols of trying not to shit yourself and flushing the bog afterwards.

Cucy · 11/07/2025 14:10

Do you do this at work too?

I do typically tie my hair back when doing things such as concentrating on a very important computer task, driving home or just getting home after work.

I have my hair down all day but as soon as I get in the car to go home or walk into my home, my hair goes up and stays up until the next day and so most of my poos and meals are done with my hair up.

I wouldn’t go out of my way to tie my hair up for them though, especially if I’m at work or out somewhere and I’ve straightened my hair.

DuckieDodgyHedgyPiggy · 11/07/2025 14:11

For eating, it sounds like common sense and good manners. The other.. I hadn't thought about it but I don't think it's weird. It might be unusual but it's something you would feel uncomfortable not doing so keep doing it and don't let anyone else's opinion on here matter..We're all hot and bothered and a bit grumpy I think. Ignore the posts having a go at you.

Tortielady · 11/07/2025 14:12

It's your hair, so do what makes you feel comfortable. I've never tied my hair up on the loo, but I understand the impulse. Occasionally, if I'm having a really bad episode (bowel problems) my hair which is only collar-length, but very heavy and thick, feels as if it's too much for me. I go very hot, then cold and woozy - most unpleasant when on the porcelain throne, where there's no safe place to fall.

Teenybub · 11/07/2025 14:13

Only time I would tie my hair up to eat is if I’m outside and it’s breezy, never for the toilet.

fireplaceember · 11/07/2025 14:14

Yes for eating and exercise and cleaning
i I can’t eat with my hair down, it feels wrong!

Skybluepinky · 11/07/2025 14:20

I don’t know anyone who does that, so yes you are strange.
no idea why you thought it was a thing.

321user123 · 11/07/2025 14:21

Sorry OP but that IS really odd!
I’ve got hair that reaches my belly button, albeit quite fine and have done so my whole life - minus a massive chop at 18 - but never did I tie my hair specifically to eat or poop 😆.

Maintaining short hair is far more work and visits to the hairdressers than just tying up long hair

Discodance1988 · 11/07/2025 14:22

Thankfully my bum hair is not long enough to need to be tied up when I poo.

DiscoBob · 11/07/2025 14:26

I get it for something messy if you've hair reaching breast level or longer.

But why for pooing? I've never ever felt concerned my hair might be mixed up with the toilet roll or touch my arse while I'm wiping? But if your hair is like below your arse then maybe it could be a worry?

Muffsies · 11/07/2025 14:28

The only times I tie my long hair back is for gardening and cycling/swimming. Perhaps if I'm doing a really involved deep-clean or moving house. But not 'on the job', nope.
