To think it's normal to tie your hair back to poo or eat?

Came up in conversation with a friend, we both have just below the shoulder length hair. I tie my hair back/up whenever I go for a poo or eat a meal and she thinks this is really odd, is it? 🤔 I've always done it and thought it was something a lot of people do, especially when eating.

I tie my hair up for lots of things because its distracting and annoying like wearing high heels (which I no longer do) but it stops me thinking clearly.
I always shout at the tv when girls arevtruing to escape a murders dungeon and dont tie their hair up.

This is EXACTLY another time I would tie my hair up 😄

How are you going to shit on hair just below your shoulder. Do you shit upside down??

Hankunamatata · 11/07/2025 13:05

When eat yes cos its long and gets in food

GAJLY · 11/07/2025 13:06

Nope to the toilet one but my daughter likes to tie her hair back for meals. She does have exceptionally long hair though.

Moveoverdarlin · 11/07/2025 13:08

I’ve got very long thick hair and don’t tie it back for shitting or eating. The poohing thing is especially odd.

I don’t tie my hair back for those ‘occasions’. I l always wonder at women who have longer hair and tie it back all the time. Just cut it short!

This is how it came out in conversation, I'd had it cut a lot shorter and said I'd still need to clip it up because it was too short to tie.

Maybe it's just how my hair is, the hair is quite thin but it is really dense so I always get a sweaty scalp or it's in my face annoying me.

Wait, isn't that how everyone does it? 😱

Don't think it's about getting poo in my hair, I've been trying to work it out now I've realised it's not normal. I will try to do it with my hair out next time and see what feelings it evokes.

Love having a poo. Generally do full face of makeup and glamorous up-do just to make it an occasion

TwerkAndJerk · 11/07/2025 13:12

I tie my hair back to do housework. Otherwise it gets in my way, gets too hot and sweaty and just feels all wrong. I also sometimes prefer to have it tied back whilst eating but isn't a thing I'm pernickety about and I'm just as happy to wear it down during meals.

As for the other thing...no. That's not a thing.

PinkCottonClouds · 11/07/2025 13:13

Yes to eat maybe.. but poo? no lol why would you need to do that, unless you have hair down to your bum!

Travelodge · 11/07/2025 13:16

The heading in Trending said "To think it’s normal to tie your h…"

I thought the rest was going to be "…usband up".

I'm quite disappointed.

Enjoy this liberating experience!

It's sensible to tie hair up to eat though, particularly if you're eating something a bit messy.

Richiewoo · 11/07/2025 13:20

I find that strange.

Wouldn't suit my face, too round. It's shorter now but still needs go be clipped back for eating or toilet trips.

It's interesting how everyone has a 'thing' isn't it? I've heard some people strip right down to go for a poo so this doesn't seem so bad!

SupposesRoses · 11/07/2025 13:23

Did you have very long hair as a child? Perhaps it’s a weird habit you got into then.

Zippidydoodah · 11/07/2025 13:23

So, so odd. Eating….maybe. But pooing? Only if it was arse length hair that might get in the way/covered in shit.

The autistic males in my family do this (I’m told!)

DeedlessIndeed · 11/07/2025 13:24

My hair goes up when I have to concentrate. It signals to me that it is time to focus.

Maybe it's a similar thing? So, whilst on the whole I do not believe that it is usual to tie hair up for a poo, if you have to exert yourself physically or mentally on the throne then maybe I can understand? 😂

And yet, I can kind of see the logic!

ShesTheAlbatross · 11/07/2025 13:25

I only tie my shoulder length hair back for exercise, or for housework (bending down cleaning the toilet etc).

evtheria · 11/07/2025 13:26

The poo thing sounds like those who have to get fully undressed to have one… WEIRD.

AngelicKaty · 11/07/2025 13:26

@Crole YABU OP. I don't do this and I don't know anyone else who does. If you don't like your hair near your face when you're eating you could just keep it back with a hairband. The loo thing I don't get at all - I'm not sure you do either! 😂

Livpool · 11/07/2025 13:27

What??? I don’t do this
