It's gone 10pm and the neighbours are still making noise in the garden

My alarm goes off for a 12 hour shift in 7 hours. It's Thursday night. Why are some people so unbelievably inconsiderate.

Is it a one off? What are they doing? What’s it being Thursday got to do with it?

cheapshoes · 19/06/2025 22:06

It's so unusual to have good weather and people want to enjoy it. Can you not use some earplugs?

On a Thursday evening most people have work the next day.

It’s only 10 o’clock. It’s nice weather, I’d just let it go at this hour!

No I can't use earplugs or I wouldn't hear my 5am alarm

That doesn’t mean they’re in bed at 10pm. I work every day too but I don’t think I’ve been in bed at 10pm since about 1989.

A vibrating alarm wouldn't wake me, I'm exhausted after an already 40 hour working week.

Use a vibrating alarm. Also likely your earplugs will have loosened by 5am enough to hear the alarm.

That doesn’t mean the rest of the world has to follow your schedule.

If your alarm also goes off at 5am and you can manage in 5 or 6 hours of sleep and then do a 12 hour shift on your feet then I'm impressed.

Are you sure? I can easily hear my phone alarm through silicone earplugs.

I use earplugs regularly and always hear my alarm still.

If you’re tired/heavy sleeper enough to sleep through your alarm you’re tired/heavy sleeper enough to sleep through the neighbours surely?

I personally hate neighbour noise and think people should be more considerate but you’re not being consistent. Earplugs are a perfectly sensible suggestion

TiagoOne · 19/06/2025 22:12

They can lawfully make noise until 11pm. You’ll just have to cope.

Crepey · 19/06/2025 22:12

It's the one reason I hate this weather, people just go nuts, I do the classic of headphones lol, so I can't hear the screaming kids, they've gone in now though, past 10 on a weeknight is crap op, we used to have a screechy loudmouth next door, who was ten times worse in the summer, they fucked off eventually, but I was contemplating murder at times, hopefully they'll piss off in soon🤞

Councils/police are only interested if noise occurs between 11pm and 7am.

FruityCider · 19/06/2025 22:14

What do you mean by making noise? Loud music? Not on. Talking? I'd let it go as people are enjoying summer. Commiserations though as I do know what it's like by to have to get up at that time. Hope you get some rest.

I struggle to get to settle and sleep with noise, once I'm asleep, due to being so exhausted, I can't hear an alarm through earplugs. I don't think that's unusual.

I empathise @Donaldduck22 but that doesnt help you.

I hope they pack it in ASAP but will no doubt be a hot, sticky night so likely many will have trouble getring enough sleep tonight?

Maybe head off your mumsnet for the night and listen to something calming? Some posters will engage in this like a "fun sport" and wind you up?
