I’m starting to find all these deals between Trump and the dodgy Middle East nations quite scary. Latest being the AI deal with Abu Dhabi.

I use the DuckDuckGo browser on my Android phone. It pretty much blocks everything, certainly on most sites. I never see any ads on here at all.

I just installed it and no ads at all - no annoying mumsnet pop up notice - gamechanger! Thanks so much 😊

No problem! It's great for privacy as well, I'm a bit tinfoil hat about that.

Like, is he going to start WW3? With the UAE as his allies?!

How is he starting WIII? Please enlighten us.

Iran - he has made it clear they will not be allowed to have nuclear weapons but he is willing to negotiate and even wrote a public letter to their leaders asking them to come to the tables and negotiations are ongoing.

He played a huge role in cooling tempers between India and Pakistan.

He has decided to work with the new government in Syria against Israel wishes who wants to continue fighting.

He has been the only one pushing to end the war in Ukraine, before he come into office Biden and other European leaders only strategy was find and provide weapons to Ukraine. I don't agree with all of his approach here but he has been consistent about ending the war.

His message to the Middle East: I will work with you to grow economically instead of fighting. Let's not trade nuclear weapons, let's trade other products that we can be prosperous from instead of war and bombing.

First term he tried using economic incentives to work with North Korea and even though it didn't work there was some progress and skirmishes between North and South Korea dropped during that period, proof he isn't looking for war.

Here are extracts from his speech on Saudi, pleas tell me where you got WIII from.

“After so many decades of conflict, finally it is within our grasp to reach the future that generations before us could only dream about — a land of peace, safety, harmony, opportunity, innovation, and achievement right here in the Middle East.”

“I am here today not merely to condemn the past chaos of Iran’s leaders, but to offer them a new path and a much better path toward a far better and more hopeful future.”

“As I have shown repeatedly, I am willing to end past conflicts and forge new partnerships for a better and more stable world, even if our differences may be very profound.”

“My preference will always be for peace and partnership, whenever those outcomes can be achieved. Always.”

“In recent years, far too many American presidents have been afflicted with the notion that it’s our job to look into the souls of foreign leaders and use U.S. policy to dispense justice for their sins … I believe it is God’s job to sit in judgement — my job [is] to defend America and to promote the fundamental interests of stability, prosperity, and peace.”

(Edit; he is absolutely correct here, how did military interventions in the world of Afghanistan, Iran, Libya help? They created a huge mess that were still dealing with today.)

“My administration stands ready to help Lebanon create a future of economic development and peace with its neighbors.”

“In Syria, which has seen so much misery and death, there is a new government that will hopefully succeed in stabilizing the country and keeping peace.”

Must say I blanched at him.describing the Syrian president as a man with ' a strong past'. He's a former Al- Qaeda terrorist!

He hasn’t got the intelligence to start a podcast.

Never mind a full scale world war.

Turn the news off and touch some grass.

So was Nelson Mandela and Gerry Adams.

And guess what countries we're allied with today we're horrible in the past, Germany caused 2 world wars and killed millions and millions of people, today they are allies. Japan committed terrible atrocities in the war including the unprovoked bombing at Pearl Harbor, today they are allies etc so unfortunately geopolitics shifts with interests and yes he was Al Queda today he leads Syria. It is not the US's place to insist on regime change, how did that work in Iraq, Iran, Libya etc?

If we don't work with them Syria will continue to after years and years of civil war and corruption from the Assad family and fall into the hands of Iran and Hezbollah leading more chaos.

Geopolitics is not about your feelings, it's about interests that have far reaching implications therefore sometimes we need to work with past enemies.

Just don’t watch the news anymore, I don’t. I’ve decided there’s no point worrying about the things I can’t control!

This is what I do too as otherwise the shit is just too scary all round!

XenoBitch · 15/05/2025 22:18

I have no idea what you are on about.
Ignorance is bliss.
Turn the news off.

Ignorance is a choice and that’s totally fine, but she’s not ‘on about’ something. There’s no need to belittle her for being informed and concerned.

No of course he isn’t!!!
President Trump is (and has been for a long time) leading the world’s largest military operation of all time.
He is currently sorting PEACE in the Middle East and throughout the world.

If you’re only looking at the BBC app, that’ll be why you’re believing the fake news media!

Check out WarClandestine and Juliesnark1731 on X and you’ll learn what’s really been going on/happening now.

Ignorance is a choice and that’s totally fine, but she’s not ‘on about’ something. There’s no need to belittle her for being informed and concerned.

But in all honesty, what does being "informed and concerned" actually achieve, besides keeping you awake at night?

It's not ignorance to avoid distressing news coverage, it's self-preservation. I don't watch news, but I read plenty of non-fiction and keep my brain challenged.

I think there's a lot of scared people out there who want others to be just as scared as they are. It's bit of a dick move, really. I overheard someone on a bus the other day who was massively fretting about cyber-attacks and seemed to think we'd all starve. Where does thinking like that get you, and what does it achieve? What can you actually do about any of this stuff?

Bugger all, is the answer. So...I'm tuning out, and doing positive things. I don't care if people think I'm ignorant.

How likely do you think it is that President Trumps is going to start a war?

The chances are absolutely tiny. And if he does, whether you're worried about it or not won't make any difference at all.

If disaster strikes, you're not going to be magically spared from it because you've been watching the news 24/7.

Netflixandchill25 · 15/05/2025 22:26

Like, is he going to start WW3? With the UAE as his allies?!

To add my earlier post this was the best part of his speech to me:

Before our eyes, a new generation of leaders is transcending the ancient conflicts of tired divisions of the past and forging a future where the Middle East is defined by commerce, not chaos, where it exports technology, not terrorism, and where people of different nations, religions, and creeds are building cities together, not bombing each other out of existence,” Trump said, delivering a major policy address at an investment forum on the first day of his trip.

OMG WWIII in the making!!!!

NattyTurtle59 · 16/05/2025 01:01

No.

However, I can't understand these people who watch the news and spend the rest of their lives being terrified - never encountered it in real life. I like to be informed about what is happening, and yes some of it is enough to drive me to rage, but I've yet to hear anything which has caused me so much concern that it has impacted my life.

I’m not even 0.1% worried. My question was asking the OP @Netflixandchill25 and should have had a photo attached showing how many wars President Trump started (zero)
As President Trump said….” Peace is the prize!”

Thank you, OP reminds me of a lady who called James O'Brien on LBC a few years ago when Trump was meeting Kim Jong Un and she was going on and on about how Trump is going to start a war, he is going to do this and that in Korea etc and James was obviously enjoying it so kept egging her on and agreeing with her 😂.

She literally said Trump plans to assasinate Kim when they meet 😆on radio.

Nelson Mandela was not a terrorist.

He was considered a terrorist and led bombing campaigns attacks.

He was literally removed from the terrorist list in 2008 😂

I don't agree because I think he was fighting for his country but he was officially considered a terrorist by the USA and the UK etc.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/from-terrorist-to-tea-with-the-queen-1327902.html

"The ANC is a typical terrorist organisation ... Anyone who thinks it is going to run the government in South Africa is living in cloud-cuckoo land' - Margaret Thatcher, 1987

Let's add a little dose of racism: "How much longer will the Prime Minister allow herself to be kicked in the face by this black terrorist?' - Terry Dicks MP, mid-1980s

The ANC Thatcher condemned as a terrorist organization has been in power in South Africa since Mandela became president.

Kerry, Corker, Whitehouse Announce Nelson Mandela Will Be Removed From Terror Watch Lists - Senator Sheldon Whitehouse

DOGE just means make random departments redundant while waving a chainsaw. It might be fun for an hour but it won't be when the consequences hit.
