I’m starting to find all these deals between Trump and the dodgy Middle East nations quite scary. Latest being the AI deal with Abu Dhabi.

This post sums up pretty much what I am worried about.

And no, not dodgy “Arab” nations (?) but nations who import slaves to build their fancy skyscrapers and give rich families slaves under the guise of “nanny”, and “housekeeper”. Nations who do things like fund extremely poor quality, private residential foster homes where hundreds of children are neglected at best. Nations with no rights for women nor anyone considered vulnerable. You’re unexpectedly jobless? You’re out…

And the mentions of China - Qatar is allies with China?!

Feels like there are a lot of Trump fans on this post…

Oh like all the human trafficking happening in the US right? Or the indentured servitude of the millions of incarcerated people? The lack of maternity care for women? The removal of abortion rights in the constitution? The children being kept in detention centres? The people being arrested and sent to countries they left as children and being dumped there? Being separated from their families?

I hate Trump. I also hate racism.

It’s easy to be a rich country when your labourers are paid the equivalent of pennies per hour.

As opposed to the UK where your whole history and riches was from stealing land and resources all around the world now you pretend to have high morality???

The UK works with the likes of Saudi, UAE etc but pretends that they don't so it's citizens like you can pretend to be morally superior 😂

I don’t understand why you think my message has been framed in a pro US way. Dodgy dealer makes dodgy deals with other dodgy dealers is essentially the concern. If one party was less dodgy (as far as politics go), it would be less scary!

History. Not present day. That’s like judging all Germans on the holocaust. Grow up.

In fact, I’m going back to this because these reasons you’ve set out are why it’s so concerning. The US is going back in time in terms of its human and women’s rights, and that’s shown in the buddying up to countries with the same moral values!

So why didn’t you say that then? And which Middle East country are you actually talking about? It’s akin to Americans who wang on about “Europe” as if we are all one entity. Be honest with yourself about why you framed it that way. It’s racist.

Again, which countries are you talking about? Which moral values? And a lot of my examples are not new by the way, the US has worked in this way since its inception. So which time period is it going “back” to? It has pretty much always been like this.

It’s still happening actually. I hate to break it to you. And it’s not about judging people, it’s about judging a collective culture. And Western nations are still continuing to oppress, harm and destroy lands, peoples and cultures all over the world.

I thought it was quite clear which countries are being referred to from the "...deals between Trump and the dodgy Middle East nations "? The deals Trump is making right now are with Saudia Arabia, Qatar, and UAE, and lifting sanctions on Syria. Making billion dollar deals with countries that don't even have a semblance of democracy or human rights is a bit concerning.

The UK also has billion dollar deals with a lot of those countries you have listed. And since when did the US have a semblance of democracy or human rights?

Firstly, I was referring to your post where you said you didn't know which Arab countries OP was referring to. I pointed out that her post alluded to which countries these were. As for the US - it is precisely for the reasons that you give that makes the deal makings even more dangerous. Whataboutism is a lame argument. I am merely pointing out that the narrow issue that the OP has raised i.e. The US, The Arab nations in question, and AI is a matter of concern. If you think it isn't, that's your prerogative.

Yes but all the immigrants here chose to be here for work and if you talk to them they prefer it there than in their home countries. They stay here and save or send money home. If it's not a problem for them why is it a problem for you?

That's a rather alarming argument. It's Hobson's choice for the workers. But a prime opportunity for exploitation for the employers. We wouldn't say the same of sex workers would we? That they are ok with it so why should we have a problem with it? It's exploitation of workers with few to little choice for survival.

I don’t like the man but this is a stretch isn’t it? If he was rounding thousands of people up and sending them to their death you might have a point but he isn’t doing that. He’s just a power hungry pain in the arse.

Absolute rubbish. These guys have a choice. Many fly home every year for a month and get back on a plane again and I've known some who have done it for 20 years. They are constantly on the phone to their families.

Is it exploitation when they saving up to build houses in their homeland? I've known taxi drivers and cleaners who put 4 kids though school and universities. One taxi driver had bought farm and paid his farm labourer $20 a month, another who was saving to buy a pharmacy.

Oh right. If you think that fathers and mothers who see their children for a month out of each year or every two years for 20 years in order to give them a semblance of a stable life is living it up, and are truly having a choice, then there's no reasoning with you. You are absolutely right. They are thriving. They have all the choice in the world. Good spotting! Why should we even worry about women in the sex industry. It's all their choice after all! Why didn't I think of that. 20 dollars a month. Oh my.

Hahahaha them apply the same to Saudi Arabia and the other Middle Easter countries that they will work together to become better contributors to society.

And people criticizing the deal for Syria, with the right support Syria can also thrive and become a totally different country.

As Trump said " Before our eyes, a new generation of leaders is transcending the ancient conflicts of tired divisions of the past and forging a future where the Middle East is defined by commerce, not chaos, where it exports technology, not terrorism, and where people of different nations, religions, and creeds are building cities together, not bombing each other out of existence,”

Instead of being supportive you're listening to the biased BBC and being "terrified!!!!!". Why don't you start building a bunker to save you from WWIII.

And while you're at it, petition your ally France to stop controlling countries in Africa as a form of modern days colonization.

That’s actually hilarious. You know the information you can access is heavily censored right? What about the women held against their will, employers hold their passports, not allowed mobile phones? You only have to glance at the Facebook groups, the way WOMEN are traded as property. “Nanny swaps” etc.

I really wouldn't bother with making a poster see sense when they believe that anything marginally above outright slave labour is getting a good deal and shouldn't expect anything else, like say basic human rights such as due process, protection from exploitation and abuse, adequate accomodation etc. The concept that many with no means of income in their home countries would endure extreme hardships without complaint to provide for their families is inconceivable to some.
