Trans protest- sharing for balance

1000 replies

Tandora · 20/04/2025 11:47

There’s a thread sharing some really awful images from the protest, so I wanted to share some positive ones for the sake of some perspective/ balance.
A lot of people are really understandably incredibly angry and overwhelmed by the events of the last few days. But most people who support trans rights absolutely don’t condone fighting oppression and injustice with misogyny.

I think by TRA rules you are the company you keep so YABU

Inarutinarut · 20/04/2025 11:49

I believe most terfs are concerned about the minority, the women in domestic violence shelters, rape crisis centres, in hospital and prison rather than who is peeing in the cubile next to them in John Lewis.

Annascaul · 20/04/2025 11:52

“Sex is not binary”, “Trans women are women”?
What is that, but the same old shite?

WhatIsAScottishEgg · 20/04/2025 11:52

The point is that there is no distinction between "cis men" and "trans women". They are both biologically male and therefore are a threat to women. Not all men, but always men.

How is anyone supposed to tell the difference between a predatory man and a genuine transwoman?

And at some level, isn't anyone accessing women's spaces without woman's consent, predatory regardless?

PowderRoom · 20/04/2025 11:54

For fuck sake. Sex is absolutely binary. And no one is suggesting trans lives ‘don’t matter’, only that the erosion of women as a biological/legal category matter more, and that trans people are going to have to work on other solutions that leave women’s rights undisturbed.

Tandora · 20/04/2025 11:54

The point is that you are completely wrong about that and it is deeply oppressive to try to enforce policies that say so.

So let's do this again Tandora. What makes a 'transwoman' a woman?

SilenceInside · 20/04/2025 11:55

There is misogyny even in some of those signs. "Sex is not binary" for one, as well as "transwomen are women". It's not in your face, but to genuinely believe those statements is to see being a woman as something other than being an adult human female.

Delusional. 🙄

namechangeGOT · 20/04/2025 11:57

When do you think you’re going to present us with some proper, real, hardcore evidence to back up the claim that ‘sex is not binary’ and that ‘trans women are women’?

When are you going to support your argument, you know, effectively?

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 20/04/2025 11:59

I have a fundamental problem with anyone protesting the Supreme Court's decision that trans rights do not trump women's rights, regardless of how politely they are doing it or how nicely coloured in their placards are.

They are protesting against women's sex based rights.

Nope. Neither of those statements are remotely misogynistic. so no, you don’t get to reinvent your anti-trans ideology as misogyny.

The pictures that were shared on the other thread were deeply misogynistic and disturbing.

Im sorry but I really don’t get why TRAs are protesting the judgment! The protected characteristic of sex is biological and trans people are protected under gender reassignment. The Supreme Court did the balancing of the law, but TRAs still aren’t happy.

Trans women are trans women, they aren’t women regardless on how many times people say it and force it upon others. It isn’t true and it isn’t reality and women and trans women have different needs, demands to force others to believe a lie won’t work.

My dp and I have had many arguments over this and it has even nearly caused us to separate over our differences in opinions, but even he doesn’t get why there’s an outrage in the judgment!

"Sex is not binary" is simply wrong.

"Trans women are women" is both misogynistic and wrong.

Where do these people get off, thinking they have the right to redefine the word "woman" to make it mean something that includes them?

namechangeGOT · 20/04/2025 12:02

@Tandora

Arguments aside, here is your chance - an actual chance to support your claims that a trans woman is an actual living and breathing adult woman. Do it? Take your opportunity to show us, provide us with irrefutable biological and scientific proof that a man can become a woman and remain so. Give us the information that we cannot deny and you’ll have won! It’s easy, do it…..

ThejoyofNC · 20/04/2025 12:02

OP would you care to explain how sex isn't binary?

CharlotteBakewell · 20/04/2025 12:03

I loved Janice Turner’s recent article in The Times. Here’s a small part of it and explains why this ruling was so important!

Oooo. Fascinating. Women are not allowed to define misogyny.

That sounds misogynistic to this woman.

Should I ask a man in a dress if it's ok for me to be offended? Do I need his permission?

AndImBrit · 20/04/2025 12:04

Tandora · 20/04/2025 11:54

But PP is not wrong.

Not all men are predators, but we still have women’s only spaces because we can’t identify predatory men from non predatory men.

I’m happy to switch out the word “men” with “people with penises” as that’s broadly what I mean.

So we need spaces where no people with penises are allowed, as people with penises are statistically more dangerous and so they should be kept apart.

Trans women are part of the more dangerous subsection of society, and offending rates are the same in trans women as they are in men. So they need to be treated the same as men. And so non predatory trans women should be treated in the same way as non predatory men.

Predatory biological men are the problem. Biological men and not cis men, so that includes trans women. Not all trans women, but also not all men.

This, a thousand times this.

And as I’ve said on other threads, surely saying trans women are women erases their experiences too?

Pleasealexa · 20/04/2025 12:04

A lot of people are really understandably incredibly angry and overwhelmed

I don't think the "incredible anger" is understandable. For years many people have highlighted that biological sex is important/relevant/lawful and single sex spaces should mean, single sex.

Trans people have been oversold and potentially misled if they believed that biology didn't matter.

No one is denying the reality of trans people -live your best life - you shouldn't be discriminated against for being trans, just don't demand access to single sex spaces. Rather than fight women, look for solutions, which realistically is 3rd spaces. Trying to deny biology won't work any longer.

Why aren't those placards demanding 3rd spaces?

NineLivesKat · 20/04/2025 12:05

OP. Do you honestly think it’s ok for someone who has asked for a female healthcare professional to do their smear to have someone with a penis do that, and do you think that is different if they happen to be wearing a dress? Really?

Buttonsbuttons · 20/04/2025 12:06

This man is a clinical psychiatrist with over 20 years clinical experience treating trans patients

It is well worth a watch as he puts the trans position on a clinical footing and makes some very astute observations based on real world experience.
