Trans protest- sharing for balance

1000 replies

Tandora · 20/04/2025 11:47

There’s a thread sharing some really awful images from the protest, so I wanted to share some positive ones for the sake of some perspective/ balance.
A lot of people are really understandably incredibly angry and overwhelmed by the events of the last few days. But most people who support trans rights absolutely don’t condone fighting oppression and injustice with misogyny.

She actually either avoids using the toilets or uses the disabled (which she is entitled to use as she IS disabled) but I do wonder why if I as a woman am in danger from men, why isn’t my friend (who looks very feminine - petite 5’ 4”, nicely made up, good hair, lovely clothes etc.) in danger from men? She honestly feels that it would be dangerous to use the male toilets but she does respect that biological women can be unhappy about her using their spaces. I think it’s a difficult situation.
She doesn’t claim to be a woman incidentally - she describes herself as transgender.

I have some sympathy for your friend but women did not screw up the arrangement which had worked until TRA's screwed it up so please don't come and ask us for solutions. We didn't break it, it's not our job to fix it, we're just trying to protect women's rights.

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 20/04/2025 12:48

If this is "balance" I'd hate to see unbalanced.

Sex and gender are NOT the same thing. There are more than two sexes (male, female and intersex etc) and gender is merely a social construct designed to put human beings in specific boxes and designate ‘traits’ to each gender in order to oppress and elevate one over the other. Men deigned to offload particular ‘duties’ to one sex over the other so they didn’t have to partake. One is no more suited to housework or parenting than the other, it’s just that one takes the time to learn and doesn’t benefit from free labour that has been deemed inferior to paid work. As such, gender is absolutely not binary because traits such as ‘feminine’ and ‘masculine’ are human traits.
Trans people are born in the wrong body, they feel and know it and there are scientific studies that indicate this occurs in utero. Identifying as another sex, other than the one you’re born with, is of no threat to anyone else.
Why are you not using your energy to protest the unbelievable levels of harassment, violence, misogyny and murders perpetrated by cis men? Trans women are in the absolute minority as perpetrators of such violence.
Oh and as you’re so intent on reinforcing this ridiculous court ruling, I’m sure you’ll be more than welcoming to trans men in the women’s toilets, as they’ve been deemed ‘biological women’ and therefore have the right to use this space too - legally and according to you!

Good lord!

Sex is literally binary. Male and female. I’m so confused by the sign saying it’s not - what other sexes are there?!

Unfortunately this is MN. You won't get a balanced view on this subject. Any thread is hijacked by those with very anti trans views and those who are in the live and let live brigade are out shouted.

My own view is that trans women should not be allowed to compete in women's sport but other than that each person is an individual and should be judged as that individual. There are evil men and evil women and evil trans men and evil trans women but there are also good people in every category too. Judge the person not the group.

I know there will be people who disagree with my view about the sport issue too. I am simply saddened that there is so much hatred towards other people whether that's based on race, religion, sexual preference or sexuality.

The very fact that you don’t think men claiming to be women should be allowed in female sports is incredibly transphobic though.
Did you feel sorry for the r]double rapist Isla / Adam when he was transferred back into a male prison? Should he have been given unfettered access to incarcerated females so that he could carry on raping?

Tandora · 20/04/2025 12:50

FOJN · 20/04/2025 12:45

When you say "for balance" do you mean "to minimise misogynistic violence and threats of violence"?

Nope. I mean to avoid giving the completely wrong impression that that’s what these protests are all about by cherry picking a few bad apples and presenting/ publicising only that side of the story.

It’s exactly like when people try to deflect/ detract from the really legitimate aims (and tactics) of protests for Palestine by trying to paint all protesters as supporters of terrorism.

These protests were a peaceful demonstration against a dangerous form of fascism which is taking greater and greater hold of UK institutions in recent years.

Ooh, you're one of those people who's found the third gamete! Do contact the Nobel committee about this "third sex" you've found!

There are only TWO sexes. The existence of people with DSDs does not prove there are any additional sexes.

Transwomen are men. You know this. Why are you lying about it?

NachoChip · 20/04/2025 12:51

This is a genuine question because to me, this is hugely complex and there are valid points on both sides...

If sex isn't binary, then that means that we don't have just men and women, we have something in between.

At the same time, saying trans women are women is saying no we don't have something in between, they're just women.

Couldn't we agree that we have men, women, but then we have trans men and women who are in between in whatever way that is the case, and so women's biological rights are one thing; we must have just as strong rights for trans men and women too, but they should be fit for the trans needs not just adopt women's rights?

People with DSD are not a third sex
Dependent on what chromosomal disorder etc they are born with they’re either female or male
sex is utterly binary

Trans women haven't lost any rights, except to be in women's spaces 🙄

They never actually had those rights, they just took them.

So of all the photos you’ve shared, one has glaringly obvious spelling mistakes, one is homophobic, one is factually incorrect, one fails to explain how women are supposed to identify which males are the dangerous ones in their private spaces because and one is childish - all lives matter.
Just pointing it out - for balance 😉

None are homophobic, none are factually incorrect, I couldn’t care less about spelling pedantry. 😘

The "fascism" taking hold of UK institutions? The vast majority of institutions have been utterly and completely captured by Stonewall's lies about the Equality Act 2010. The Supreme Court judgement merely clarified that when the Act refers to "women" it means those of the female sex.

Using the word "fascism" undermines any sort of argument you might have and demonstrates you have no understanding of what fascism actually is.

I am a woman. I know what misogyny is when I see it, and , no , you do not get to reinvent anti-trans ideology as misogyny.

How is anyone supposed to tell the difference between a predatory man and a genuine transwoman?

And at some level, isn't anyone accessing women's spaces without woman's consent, predatory regardless?

I must say, I'm as GC as they come but I've always echoed the sentiment of that particular placard. It's men that are the problem. Transwomen trying to escape abuse and violence they get from men in say, toilets, think they will by using the women's. Predatory men then exploit the loophole this creates by giving them the same access to women's toilets by default.

So transwomen having access to women's spaces doesn't solve their issue - because the men they say they're trying to escape have the same free access to just follow them into whichever space they go. And as you rightly pointed out, they don't typically carry a neon sign that says WARNING I'M A PREDATORY MAN. So the only group actively harmed more by this are women, the trans community suffer the same risk of harm as they did when they used the toilet of their respective sex. So it's not a solution, it just puts 2x vulnerable groups at risk instead of one. And the culprit - violent and abusive men - suffer no consequences whatsoever.

Really oversimplified and clumsy way of putting it but hopefully people get the idea of what I mean. If predatory men are the issue, why push into women's spaces in such a way that the predatory men can easily follow, rather than target the true issue at source (no idea how though).

I get why trans women feel unsafe using the male facilities. The answer to that is not to force women to use toilets with biological males.

The answer to that is a 3rd space. But that’s not what TRAs or even the majority of transwomen and their supporters are campaigning for. They want access to all women’s spaces.

Transwomen being at risk from violence men in a male issue. The solution is to not put women at risk and expect women to accept it.

i appreciate your friend is being considerate but the vast majority at respecting women to accept the increased risk and be happy about it. Hence the mass protests and tantrums that biological males won’t be allowed free access to any women’s spaces. They don’t a 3rd safe space.

NineLivesKat · 20/04/2025 12:04

This, a thousand times this.

And as I’ve said on other threads, surely saying trans women are women erases their experiences too?

Well quite.

Transwomen, particularly those that transition in later life, don't experience things like the Pay Gap, the lived experience of growing up with wolf whistles as a teenage girl, the virtual guarantee of being sexully assaulted, groped, being told to Smile, Love, being expected to deal with all the stuff in the Barbie film - nice but not too nice, often in relation to men: be nice to them, flirt but don't lead them on, flatter but don't sleep your way up etc.

Transwomen have very valid difficulties and a different lived experience that we should absolutely try to understand and support, but it is a different experience and this is where erasure happens - when we try to say transwomen are women - because the lived experience of both are different and should be treated differently if we want actual better and equal rights for both. That's why the equality act protects Sex and Gender Reassignment
