Trans protest- sharing for balance

1000 replies

Tandora · 20/04/2025 11:47

There’s a thread sharing some really awful images from the protest, so I wanted to share some positive ones for the sake of some perspective/ balance.
A lot of people are really understandably incredibly angry and overwhelmed by the events of the last few days. But most people who support trans rights absolutely don’t condone fighting oppression and injustice with misogyny.

I can see from the pile on following my comment that some people do indeed judge a group rather than the individual which is really sad.

needmoresheep · 20/04/2025 12:37

Some dreadful images of the protest showing damage to a leading women’s rights campaigner statue is not a good look for the trans community. Nor is a ‘piss’ protest. Nor are exclamations to ‘punch a TERF in the face’. Nor are groups storming into women’s meetings.

All we see is the Trans community using intimidation and violence. Whilst aggressive behaviour such as that continues a lot of women are fearful.

aylis · 20/04/2025 12:37

"Pile on" = people legitimately responding to a public post.

I’m happy to switch out the word “men” with “people with penises” as that’s broadly what I mean.

I have a friend who is a trans woman. She has breasts (hormones gave her those) and she does not have a penis (I don’t know the details of how it all works but she had her penis surgically removed).

So is it okay for her to use the ladies toilets? She surely can’t use a urinal and can’t attack anyone with her non existent male genitalia…..

Im genuinely interested. I am happy to use her female name and her chosen pronouns. I’m happy to go out to lunch with her etc. but I do understand women who want female only places.

Personally I’d be ok with this, but the others have ruined it for people like your friend.

I don't understand the logic behind your view though.

Aren't you also judging 'transwomen' as a group if you think they shouldn't be in women's sport?

And what would be the rationale for keeping the 'group' out of women's sport but not other things that are fundamental to women's safety and dignity?

usernamealreadytaken · 20/04/2025 12:38

Tandora · 20/04/2025 11:54

The point is that you are completely wrong about that and it is deeply oppressive to try to enforce policies that say so.

What is the difference between or distinction between "cis men" and "trans women”, other than feelings or clothes? When archaeologists dig up their skeletons in 500 years, unless the ones with a narrow pelvis are wearing high heels, how will they distinguish those who are trans?

So of all the photos you’ve shared, one has glaringly obvious spelling mistakes, one is homophobic, one is factually incorrect, one fails to explain how women are supposed to identify which males are the dangerous ones in their private spaces because and one is childish - all lives matter.
Just pointing it out - for balance 😉

Spirallingdownwards · 20/04/2025 12:41

As I said initially if you proffer a view that doesn't accord you are out shouted.

There are individual men and women who are evil. The thing is you don't always know who is and who isn't for those people and for trans people. When they show you who they are that is the time to judge them.

I will leave you to it now because there isn't a true reasoned discussion to be had here.

usernamealreadytaken · 20/04/2025 12:41

Tandora · 20/04/2025 11:59

Nope. Neither of those statements are remotely misogynistic. so no, you don’t get to reinvent your anti-trans ideology as misogyny.

The pictures that were shared on the other thread were deeply misogynistic and disturbing.

It’s misogynistic for men to tell women that women are wrong and that men are women.

No. Your friend is a male and should use the male toilets.

Yes we do judge a ‘group’ - they’re called ‘men’. And we judge them because they commit most of the violent and sexual crime in society. I have no problem sharing toilets with a trans man. Why? Because - spoiler alert - they’re not actually a man.

Do you get it yet? This isn’t about being anti-trans. As much as you’d like it to be.

Spirallingdownwards · 20/04/2025 12:36

Ultimately for safeguarding purposes, people have to be treated as groups however.

There are lots of lovely men who wouldnt ever hurt a woman, but there is no litmus test, so we have to apply rules for all.

Same for transwomen who are men and offend at (at least) the same rates as other men. How are we supposed to tell the 'good' from the 'bad'.

Sp basically your position here is that you don't support safeguarding for women. Many find this very problematic.

Women talking back is a pile on? Should we be glad you are not calling us a mob yet? Where do you stand on actual physical intimidation of GC activists by trans women and their allies?

How are you being shouted down? You are being challenged in ways that you don't seem to be able to respond to.

To your point, we take reasonable measures to protect women in society. That includes keeping some spaces free from men. As 'transwomen' are men, that applies to them too.

DrPrunesqualer · 20/04/2025 12:45

No idea why a lot of people are ‘understandably incredibly ANGRY and overwhelmed’. As you say OP

nothing new has happened

Women have been defined as biological.
presumably all these angry people went to school and did a bit of biology

Their anger is because they can’t take woman’s rights away.
Its pure entitlement and misogyny

They have the same as they’ve always had in the Equalities Act !
They are protected equally just like the rest of us

Their only anger is that they aren’t Special anymore…didums

SilenceInside · 20/04/2025 12:45

@Spirallingdownwards being in a minority on a discussion group isn’t being “out shouted”. You post, people respond. You don’t like being in a minority on this forum. That’s how it goes sometimes.

You must know that your argument is essentially saying that safeguarding is pointless and that any preventative measures based on aggregate statistics are wrong. Is that really what you think?

EverythingElseIsTaken · 20/04/2025 12:45

TheKeatingFive · 20/04/2025 12:33

This person hasn't changed sex, so no, it's not okay for them to use the ladies. It's not about having a penis, it's about being a man.

She actually either avoids using the toilets or uses the disabled (which she is entitled to use as she IS disabled) but I do wonder why if I as a woman am in danger from men, why isn’t my friend (who looks very feminine - petite 5’ 4”, nicely made up, good hair, lovely clothes etc.) in danger from men? She honestly feels that it would be dangerous to use the male toilets but she does respect that biological women can be unhappy about her using their spaces. I think it’s a difficult situation.
She doesn’t claim to be a woman incidentally - she describes herself as transgender.

FOJN · 20/04/2025 12:45

When you say "for balance" do you mean "to minimise misogynistic violence and threats of violence"?

VickyEadieofThigh · 20/04/2025 12:45

These differences have been explained on any number of threads. I posted a long considered post about this yesterday and only one person cared to respond. You aren’t interested in hearing or understanding. There’s nothing that anyone can explain to someone who takes that attitude.

When do you think you’re going to present us with some proper, real, hardcore evidence to back up the claim that ‘sex is not binary’ and that ‘trans women are women’?

When are you going to support your argument, you know, effectively?

Sex and gender are NOT the same thing. There are more than two sexes (male, female and intersex etc) and gender is merely a social construct designed to put human beings in specific boxes and designate ‘traits’ to each gender in order to oppress and elevate one over the other. Men deigned to offload particular ‘duties’ to one sex over the other so they didn’t have to partake. One is no more suited to housework or parenting than the other, it’s just that one takes the time to learn and doesn’t benefit from free labour that has been deemed inferior to paid work. As such, gender is absolutely not binary because traits such as ‘feminine’ and ‘masculine’ are human traits.
Trans people are born in the wrong body, they feel and know it and there are scientific studies that indicate this occurs in utero. Identifying as another sex, other than the one you’re born with, is of no threat to anyone else.
Why are you not using your energy to protest the unbelievable levels of harassment, violence, misogyny and murders perpetrated by cis men? Trans women are in the absolute minority as perpetrators of such violence.
Oh and as you’re so intent on reinforcing this ridiculous court ruling, I’m sure you’ll be more than welcoming to trans men in the women’s toilets, as they’ve been deemed ‘biological women’ and therefore have the right to use this space too - legally and according to you!

DrSpartacularsMagnificentOctopus · 20/04/2025 12:46

"Safeguarding’s fundamental principle is that you look at which group poses a potential risk to the vulnerable and limit or control access. It is necessarily exclusionary, not inclusive. The group isn’t the issue; the access is. The group to focus on is the vulnerable one and what it needs to mitigate its vulnerability. That is why all men are kept out of spaces and services where women are vulnerable. It is their sex (the single most important factor determining whether someone will be a criminal) which makes them a risk as a category regardless of what individuals in that category are like. Their gender or feelings are irrelevant. It is potential which matters, not any individual man’s intention. A case-by-case assessment might work when choosing wine or hiring an employee but not in a changing room or loo. That is why we should view with some suspicion any group of men demanding access to such spaces. That is why you should never privilege any group with access to the vulnerable because, if you do, that group will inevitably attract predators. That is why the exceptions in the Equality Act exist and why they must be sex-based to achieve their purpose."
