To be horrified that Israel is slaughtering children at a rate not seen for ober

ThisNattyTurtle · 22/03/2025 07:53

Israel killed more children in 15 months than were killed in all the conflicts of the world in the last 4 years combined. Israel is killing children again now at an unprecedented rate and the UK is supporting it with weapons, money and intelligence.
Israel is committing genocide according to the UN, Amnesty and Human Rights Watch. Israel killed 159 Palestinians, including children, during the ceasefire - only 1 Israeli was killed in that time and that was a soldier in a friendly fire event.

Mumsnet HQ there are at least 3 threads about Ukraine still on AIBU, and many other political ones. Please do not hide this topic away in the other section again without at least explaining why UK involvement in the mass slaughter of children is not worthy of the front page. We are supporting a regime much worse than Russia, as much as Russia's regime is awful.

Agreed it’s absolutely abhorrent

Francesca Albanese of the UN explaining how fully this is a genocide. Before the restart of the bombing campaign in which 130 children were killed one night alone (see UNICEF statement)

Oh well that's alright then.

Suggest ask Hamas not to send out Palestinians as target practice - they’re training child soldiers, much to the horror of the Israelis who only want to finish terrorists off.

springintoaction321 · 22/03/2025 08:06

@ThisNattyTurtle completely agree. I saw Francesca Albanese on the Channel 4 news and thought she was absolutely right on the points she was making.

Sadly it just seems to go on and on - despite protests against in Israel as well. Netanyahu won't be wanting to relinquish any power and the arms makers love to make money Sad

Wow if only the legal and ballistic expert analysts from the UN had your level of deep insight.
The UN had found that: 70% of those killed are women and children, majority of them in residential buildings, some in tents and other shelters eg clinics and schools. Israel is dropping 2,000lb 'dumb' bombs that obliterate entire multi-storey residential buildings. This from the 4th most sophisticated army in the world.
The UN and B'Tselem have found that Israel routinely uses Palestinians including children as human shields (you can see videos of them doing it on YouTube).
Maybe, respectfully, you have no idea what you are talking about.

Oh and, the Israeli terrorist groups that founded Israel (classified as terrorists by Churchill's govt) actually used human shields. But the British troops somehow managed NOT to carpet burn children's schools and hospitals. See below (the author is a former Israeli soldier and humanitarian law professor).

Israel are carpet bombing Gaza during the night. They can’t possibly be targeting anyone specific with those tactics. After breaking the ceasefire they were killing people at a rate of one every six minutes - men, women, children & babies. These are not all terrorists and it’s ignorant to argue otherwise.

Diorchristian · 22/03/2025 08:15

Yes abhorrent but why doesn't hammas just give up the ghost and surrender and stop this madness. Give back the remaining hostages and stop this carnage.
Allow Palestine the chance for free and fair democratic elections.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 22/03/2025 08:18

What’s ‘o b e r’ ? ( have to write it like that, spell check keeps ‘correcting it). Is it some sort of time period word from another language?

Letmecallyouback · 22/03/2025 08:18

I read one theory that the current continued bombing is being done to de populate Gaza because Hamas can not be defeated. Over 50% of the tunnel networks remain intact and Hamas will just keep re arming themselves, so de population is considered a more effective means to an end.

It is always horrifying that children are killed in any conflict, on any side. For that I truly weep. They are the innocents and often used as shields, manipulated to participate, left as collateral damage. It's beyond belief of a civilised species.

However, I have no respect for the UN, which I believe started with the best intentions but has become nothing more than glorified suits patting themselves on the back but doing nothing. In which recent conflict have they actually helped?

The UN have obtained their figures from Hamas-led hospitals. Are these really figures to trust? Amnesty and Oxfam got their figures from the UN.

As I said, it's highly distressing to read about any children dying, but I don't believe Hamas are the innocents here and Israelis the perpetrators. It's really not that simple. Children on both sides have died. That's the real issue.

EasternStandard · 22/03/2025 08:19

I haven’t been following this in last few weeks. Why did Hamas stop the hostage returns?

I read that Israel wanted to change the agreement before stage one was completed? The hostages were meant to be released in stages but Israel decided they all had to be released in phase 1 then stopped aid entering Gaza to try and force cooperation? Not 100% certain.

1234Kitty · 22/03/2025 08:29

I agree, it’s a slaughter.
200 children murdered in the last 3 days.

Well Israel wont allow in any journalists but the figures from the Hamas led health agency are not disputed internationally & medics/charities who have gone to Gaza to help, who are not Hamas, back up the deaths and injuries of children

The argument that there is deaths on both sides, is tired, the numbers of Palestinians kills far far outweighs Israeli deaths.

Human shields? debunked, no real evidence was ever shown that Hamas used Hospitals as bases, still blown up...

Gaza is very small, there are around 2m people, mostly in tents, most buildings destroyed, dropping bombs in such an area will always result in high civilian deaths.

Among all of this are the hostages and their families, who seem to have been forgotten in the drive to eliminate Hamas, an impossibility.

Israel seems to be on the path of de population, its what Trump wants and Israel only too happy to do.

Please explain to me like I'm 5 why that makes killing those children acceptable.

Presumably the children don't have a choice or agency to make the decision to go out. So why is it justifiable to kill them?

Are you really suggesting that killing children is OK in some circumstances?

I would guess that if you have a child who has been brainwashed by a suicidal ideology pointing a rifle at you they are still going to pull the trigger if you don’t. Do you just let them shoot you? The whole thing is horrific and I’m starting to think neither side wants the war to end.

ThisNattyTurtle · 22/03/2025 08:41

@EasternStandard Hamas did not break the ceasefire, Israel did. During the 'ceasefire' Israel killed 150 Palestinian men women and children (sniper shots and drones). Only one Israeli was killed and that was a soldier by friendly fire.
Netanyahu kept changing the goalposts of the agreement. Last week he insisted Hamas release all hostages immediately before the agreed on timeline, without fulfilling his end (allowing in humanitarian aid, tents for the displaced, and withdrawing his army from Gaza).

Quite, plenty of evidence that infants are being maimed and or blown to bits.

In my opinion any death on any side is upsetting. I don't care if it's a tired argument. They were somebody's child and I mourn them all equally.

Look this is straight up fiction, this has never happened. There is not a single image or video (from a tiny piece of land 42km*11km) heavily surveilled by Israel (and with UK covert military intel flights to our shame) that has ever shown a kid fighting for Hamas. The children being slaughtered are being hit by snipers or drones, or bombed in the night as they slept in residential buildings or schools, and now in tents because almost no buildings are left. This has been verified by a UN analysis published end of last year.
