To be horrified that Israel is slaughtering children at a rate not seen for ober

1000 replies

ThisNattyTurtle · 22/03/2025 07:53

Israel killed more children in 15 months than were killed in all the conflicts of the world in the last 4 years combined. Israel is killing children again now at an unprecedented rate and the UK is supporting it with weapons, money and intelligence.
Israel is committing genocide according to the UN, Amnesty and Human Rights Watch. Israel killed 159 Palestinians, including children, during the ceasefire - only 1 Israeli was killed in that time and that was a soldier in a friendly fire event.

Mumsnet HQ there are at least 3 threads about Ukraine still on AIBU, and many other political ones. Please do not hide this topic away in the other section again without at least explaining why UK involvement in the mass slaughter of children is not worthy of the front page. We are supporting a regime much worse than Russia, as much as Russia's regime is awful.

It blows my mind that we stand by and watch this. Not only that but we continue to supply weapons to Israel. We are complicit. It utterly depresses me that 28% of people think you're being reasonable. I don't even know what to say anymore.

DancefloorAcrobatics · 22/03/2025 08:49

Israel don't want anymore left in Gaza.

And the world is watching because, well it's Israel against a terrorist organisation. You know what side you are meant to pick!

ThisNattyTurtle · 22/03/2025 08:50

Yes, each child's life is equal. That's why I'm outraged that one side has killed 17000 children (compared to 37 on the other). The two sides are NOT equal. In 2022 Save the Children issued a warning that Israel had killed more children in the West Bank that year than any other for the past 15 years (34). They had to re-issue the warning Sept 2023 because 32 had already been killed. In those time frames either zero or 1 Israeli child had been killed (see B'Tselem which tabulates deaths by year). On Oct. 7th 37 Israeli children were killed, UN found at least 7 were killed by Israeli military strikes in the 'Hannibal directive'.

Yes.
Usually dressed up as "We mourning all deaths equally"

Ignoring the scale of these on one side.

Our politicians are weak.

It is always horrifying that children are killed in any conflict, on any side. For that I truly weep. They are the innocents and often used as shields, manipulated to participate, left as collateral damage. It's beyond belief of a civilised species.

However, I have no respect for the UN, which I believe started with the best intentions but has become nothing more than glorified suits patting themselves on the back but doing nothing. In which recent conflict have they actually helped?

The UN have obtained their figures from Hamas-led hospitals. Are these really figures to trust? Amnesty and Oxfam got their figures from the UN.

As I said, it's highly distressing to read about any children dying, but I don't believe Hamas are the innocents here and Israelis the perpetrators. It's really not that simple. Children on both sides have died. That's the real issue.

As per above, this 'both sides' argument is nonsense. One side - one of the most technologically advanced armies in the world - has killed over 17000 children by bombing, sniping, and quadcopter. Before Oct. 7th that same side killed an Oct. 7th number of Palestinian children each year, for decades, with impunity.

For those saying 'oh once Hamas goes Israel will be nice' - the West Bank is ruled by the secular PA which renounced armed resistance 30 yrs ago and fought against Hamas. How has Israel repaid them in those yrs? Kills civilians with impunity including 20-30 children/year (see Save the Children link above, Amnesty, UN). Kidnaps 700 Palestinian children per year, military jails, sexual and physical abuse (Save the Children report 2019, UNICEF Child detainees OPT report 2013)

Here's life 2005 before Hamas. Israeli captain emptied rifle into a Palestinian schoolgirl, his own soldiers testified she was no threat, he was acquitted.

Rachel Corrie was bulldozed to death by Israel in Gaza before Hamas. Tom Hurndall.was shot dead in Gaza before Hamas.

Not guilty. The Israeli captain who emptied his rifle into a Palestinian schoolgirl

if it wasn’t for the dome, Israeli children would be slaughtered daily - Hamas have hidden themselves amongst civilians for this purpose. The shouting should be for Hamas to return the hostages but they don’t actually want a solution, they are terrorists intent on torturing and taunting Jews.

“Palestinian” isn’t a religion. There have been catholics Christians and Muslims killed by Israel in this “war”.

edit to add: and Jews, Israel have been responsible for killing israeli
hostages during this time too

Look this is straight up fiction, this has never happened. There is not a single image or video (from a tiny piece of land 42km*11km) heavily surveilled by Israel (and with UK covert military intel flights to our shame) that has ever shown a kid fighting for Hamas. The children being slaughtered are being hit by snipers or drones, or bombed in the night as they slept in residential buildings or schools, and now in tents because almost no buildings are left. This has been verified by a UN analysis published end of last year.

With respect i am not saying it did happen. I was just answering the previous poster asking why you would still shoot a child that had been groomed. Presumably because they are still going to shoot you anyway.

ThisNattyTurtle · 22/03/2025 09:05

As for the UN's numbers, they conducted an investigation and analysis of a cross section of the reported deaths end of last year, they essentially audited the Gaza Health Ministry numbers and found them correct. In previous Israeli bombing campaigns the UN has gone in after and independently verified the Gaza Health Ministry numbers and found them to be correct or even slight undercounts.
The Lancet has a peer reviewed article which used other methods to show the death toll is a 40% undercount

https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(24)02678-3/fulltext

The funny thing is,I never hear anyone in the UK question the UN or Amnesty until it comes to Israel, then they can't possibly be trusted because they contradict the narrative we are being fed.
Each of those institutions and Human Rights Watch have conducted independent analysis and reports (available on their sites) and concluded it's genocide. And a lot of their sources were videos posted by Israeli soldiers themselves. (Oh and by the by Israeli soldiers all wear bodycams, not a single photo or video has emerged of a Palestinian 'child soldier')

Children get killed and maimed in wars.

Who knew.

Choughinthemist · 22/03/2025 09:08

What do you think about child soldiers? What do you think of the fact that Hamas knows how many children are killed 20 minutes after an event such as a bomb?

Redfred00 · 22/03/2025 09:08

I'm horrified that the worlds governments are doing nothing about it and calling it self defence.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 22/03/2025 09:09

I agree OP it's sickening. What makes it worse is those (many on this board) who can't see it for what it is and keep talking about who started the conflict, like a bunch of 6 yr olds in a playground. I admit I don't understand the complexities of politics in the area but its no longer about that. Who struck first is of no relevance when civilians are being targeted today. People who defend it are really lacking in morality and should be deeply ashamed.

Choughinthemist · 22/03/2025 09:09

What did you think of the kidnap and killing of the Bibas babies and do you know how they were killed?

You should be ashamed too as you just said in your post you don’t understand the complexities but in the next breath you condemn other people and hold those to unknown complexities. Which one is it?

Letmecallyouback · 22/03/2025 09:12

I don't think anyone could deny the deaths are massively disproportionate in scale. I just don't think there is anything left to gain for Hamas in continuing to stand on points of principle when it can't possibly have any meaningful military impact against the weaponry of Israel. As I said before however I am starting to think neither side wants an end to war. Surely this late in the game when Gaza has been reduced to dust the easier option would be to say ok, here, have your hostages! Or is that too simplistic? I'm struggling to understand what either side can possibly gain anymore from this conflict.

SallyWD · 22/03/2025 09:13

Choughinthemist · 22/03/2025 09:09

You see I don't understand this attitude. Anyone with an ounce of humanity is appalled by the death of any innocent child. What puzzles me is that many dismiss the death of 200 Palestine children in a few days. It's just a number to some people.

Choughinthemist · 22/03/2025 09:14

Redfred00 · 22/03/2025 09:08

What would have been an appropriate response when a group enter civilian homes and nurseries on a religious day knowing there will be less military and kill over a 1000 including babies. Then kidnap over 200 and not release them for nearly 2 years. Can you offer your appropriate response?

FruitPolos · 22/03/2025 09:14

Letmecallyouback · 22/03/2025 08:39

I would guess that if you have a child who has been brainwashed by a suicidal ideology pointing a rifle at you they are still going to pull the trigger if you don’t. Do you just let them shoot you? The whole thing is horrific and I’m starting to think neither side wants the war to end.

So all those children that have died were pointing guns at Israeli soldiers?

Is there evidence of this?

MidnightGloria · 22/03/2025 09:14

If a 16 or 17 year old soldier were pointing a gun at me, then yes, I'd shoot them. Even if that would be officially recorded as 'killing a child.' Lots of teenage boys get involved with Hamas, and you can say it's not their fault or they were groomed or brainwashed and you'd probably be right. But if they're soldiers, they're still a threat despite their age.

We know that Hamas have no shortage of uniforms. Maybe they should wear them when they fight so that it'd be easier to tell who the non-combatants are? Seems they'd rather skulk around in tunnels putting civilians at risk instead.

I'm saying slaughtering of innocent people is wrong regardless. It's fairly simple. And the irony of anyone saying 'but they did it first' is that they have now admitted they are no better morally than those they condemn.

No I am not ashamed of wanting innocent deaths to be avoided. Quite the contrary.

Well the UN previously had to admit that the figures it used (that also came from hamas) were completely unreliable so I'd hope that they've done some due diligence before parroting hamas propaganda again, but some how I doubt that they have

No, OP posted evidence that something like 70% of those killed were innocent civilians, not child soldiers.
